gaming What Zelda games do you recommend?

So, I'm later on getting a New 3DS XL later on and I'm really wanting to get a Zelda game, I'm not sure which one to get though. Let me just say this though, I'm not really big into gaming (I mean besides on my tablet and crap) and I've certainly never played a Zelda game before so, I have next to no clue what to get, I know they're really popular and they look interesting to me but I just wanna have an idea. I've heard different opinions but I really don't know, so yeah. Thanks!! ^^

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D may be a good place to start; it's pretty much the most highly rated game in the series, and it's not too difficult to get into either (still can offer quite a challenge, though :smug:). And in a way, it's two games in one, so there's a lot to do in it. ^_^ I'd also recommend maybe downloading The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX on the 3DS eShop (it doesn't cost much, so it's worth your time, IMO) to see if you prefer the gameplay with a top-down perspective rather than 3D. :)

Both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have 3D remasters on the 3DS, and both are considered the best in the series.

There's also a Link Between Worlds which is a sequel to A Link To The Past, which I've heard is also great

Then there's the Virtual Console on the eShop which has the NES games Legend of Zelda and Zelda II Link's Adventure, as well as the Gameboy games Link's Awakening and the Oracle of Seasons/Ages

All of those above are really good

The 3DS is also backwards compatible with the original DS games,  which include Phantom Hourglass(sequel to Windwaker on GC/Wii U) and Spirit Tracks, though personally those are the weakest Zelda games, though still pretty good. They're pretty polarizing among Zelda fans

As others have said Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask have both gotten good remakes on the 3DS. A Link Between Worlds which is also for the 3DS is another one you might want to consider, it is technically a sequel to A Link to the Past which you can get on the Wii U virtual console (originally released on the SNES). What is available on the 3DS virtual console in the original Zelda released for the NES though that one has some rather brutal difficultly even by Zelda standards, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are excellent games that actually combine together to form one story through a password system. Link's Awakening is also great and made history as the first portable Zelda game. Skyward Sword is great if you have a Wii or a Wii U (backward compatibility for the win) and same with Twilight Princess which I have heard rumors they might do a remake of for the 3DS.

Depends on the system. Gamecube or Wii (U) Twilight Princess. Gamecube or Wii U Wind Waker. And on the 3DS either Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask.

Well That all depends on what systems you have. If you have a wii or wii-u, you can download A Link to the past, original Legend of Zelda (or Zelda Classic as other people say), Zelda 2: link's adventure, OoT, and MM 64 for the virtual console.

For wii-u virtual console, I Would Say Minish cap.

for 3DS, well there's Link's Awakening DX, and oracles for the 3DS virtual console, but if you haven't played the original link's awakening like i have, then link's awakening DX makes it easy enough to clear the game with additional contents. For Oracles, you wanna get both ages and seasons since the story passes it on the game after you clear one of those games and then you have to put in the password in order to progress the story to either ages or seasons depending on which you clear. Now as for the 3DS games, yeah, the other people here say that OoT and MM 3D are good, but there are changes in those 2 games. A Link between worlds is also good, but it might be best if you get a game guide for it. There's also LoZ: 4 swords on the 3DS as well, but it seems that you have to pay to download the game. The Game is soloable, but it can be done with co-op play with 2-3 other people also it gets tricky and harder as you progress.

For wii-u, if you haven't played original WW, then WW HD would be a good idea to start also Hyrule Warriors is a good game i ever played, but it's like a crossover game of dynasty, samurai, and orochi warriors and Legend of Zelda so If you haven't played the warriors game yet, the game won't be that easy for first timers if you haven't played them just yet. The Adventure mode is harder than legend & free mode so the difficulty for adventure mode are fixed and can't be changed and getting A-Rank for those battles is not that easy without a co-op partner.

Just to give you a warning side about zelda II: Link's Adventure. it's one of the hardest LoZ games that most fans and players ever played and as they say so it would take a lot of reflexes and grinding to get through the game.

also the note side on original Legend of Zelda for NES. It's called Zelda Classic (ZC for short).

Start with Ocarina of Time. Not only is it one of the strongest in the series, it has the best lore setup for most of the rest of them. Since it's been out for such a long time for the 3DS you can probably find a copy for a fair price too

When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move,
your job is to plant yourself like a tree next to the river of truth, and tell the whole world
"No, you move."

I think Ocarina of Time is better on the 3DS than on the N64. I've played it on both versions and I know.

If you have some money left over, I'd also recommend Link's Awakening DX and one of the Oracles games, depending on your preference. If you like puzzles in Zelda games more, then you'll enjoy Ages. Do you enjoy combat in Zelda games? Then you should buy Seasons. All three games I mentioned are currently on the eShop.

Hope this helps! :)

I agree with most of the posters here. Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask are both timeless classics. Link to the past/link between worlds are pretty good too, mostly the former.

I would recommend you play Twilight Princess, but I'm pretty sure it's only on wii/gamecube. People give that game alot of flak but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

...But that's just my opinion.

If you are looking for 3DS released games only, OOT is the best to start, period, despite being my least favorite out of the three. ALBW is easier than it's SNES predecesor, but it's still quite harsh for new players bcause it doesn't take you by hand. Majora's it might be the shortest storywise, but it's also the hardest, just getting to the dungeones could be considered dungeons themselves. Majora's is my favorite Zelda ever, BUT DON'T EVEN THING ABOUT EVEN TOUCHING IT WITHOUT FINISHING OOT AT LEAST  :okiedokielokie: . But trust me, finishing Majora's is far more rewarding  ;)

-Ocarina of Time is my childhood and my strongest recommendation.

-Majora's Mask is a bit darker, but I think should still be enjoyable.

-Twilight Princess is also a game that I thought was pretty good.

Can't go wrong with any Zelda title on 3DS- retail you got OoT, A Lik Between Worlds, and Majora's Mask which are all among the cream of the crop of Zelda, and VC has 5 more classic Zeldas to pick from... they're all good, really. :squee:
