movies/tv Is there a reason Uncle Grandpa is so hated?

I used to hate Uncle Grandpa, mainly going by the promos. I thought it was just yet another cartoon trying to copy Adventure Time without understanding what made it successful. But the more I watched it, the more it actually grew on me. Now, it still isn't a show that I'll follow or marathon, but it's simply ment to be mindless harmless fun, in that aspect, it's a good filler cartoon, and it can get a laugh or two out of you.

But I also think this is why it, and Clarence are so hated. In this day and age, people think every new cartoon needs some huge worldbuilding or sprawling plot, even very wacky shows like Star Vs. the Forces of Evil seem to have one. Those shows have their place, but I always believed in diversity. For every Gumball, there needs to be a Steven Universe, it works vice versa. In this day and age, it seems a very wacky show like Uncle Grandpa, or a very grounded-in-reality show like Clarence are looked down upon because they don't meet the standards of the supposed "right way" to make a cartoon.

What people fall to realize is that there is NO right way to make a cartoon. Cartoon creators typically make what they want to see and what they think is funny. If you don't like it fine, but don't act like every cartoon needs to follow some abitrary checklist of your desires. Anyway, had Uncle Grandpa came out during CN's golden age, it probably wouldn't be as looked down upon as it is right now. And like I said, the show is harmless. Yes it's stupid and nonsensical, but in an amusing way. This isn't like Teen Titans Go! or Johnny Test with mean-spirited characters, lazy flash animation, repetitive plots, and terrible morals.

Honestly, it's not my thing, but I also don't outright hate the show. Really, every show has it's audience and for everyone watching Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, or even MLP:FiM, there are people watching Uncle Grandpa, Clarence, or Gumball.

As you said; diversity is a great thing. :)

Uncle Grandpa isn't that bad. It's kind of silly but not extremely annoying. And yes this is a random show and seems obnoxious but it's not on the annoyance level that Sanjay & Craig or Breadwinners are. There was a cartoon from the 90's which had similar traits to a lot of cartoons hated these days. Ed, Edd, n Eddy, and yes that's a great show and I think similar to Uncle Grandpa, Gumball, and Clarence it's a really silly show that is kind of obnoxious but is still tolerable with a bunch of randomness. I'd say that show is on the level of shows like Uncle Grandpa and Gumball. The only advantage Ed, Edd, n Eddy has is nostalgia, If that show were made today it would be more hated.

I don't hate the show,  I like the show because it reminded me of crazy 90's cartoons. But I can't stand Pizza Steve (He'S THE BIGGEST DOUCHE BAG NEXT TO CARTMAN AND NOT A LOVEABLE WAY).

I hate the show. I also hate Steven Universe, Regular Show, Annoying Orange, Clarence, Total Drama, Ben 10, Chowder (which is old so I doubt if anyone remembers it). There are probably a few more. I liked Adventure Time when it was going but the last couple episodes or last season I've watched was okie. Not good but not extremely bad except that Circle of Life one.

Uncle Grandpa seems random just to be random with no interesting themes, points, or plots. It gives off a feeling of lewdness and it doesn't help that the name of the show seems really off. It just doesn't make sense. In the event that it does it kinda seems incestious. Hate the graphic design since it's close to if not basically the same as Steven Universe and Clarence.

There are other shows that I feel more hate towards tho. I accidently wrote a rant, but I decided to cut it since it involved more cartoons and I doubt if anyone wants to read walls of text.

I've never watched Uncle Grandpa. Nyan Tigers don't appeal to me. But Gumball is my favorite show airing on CN right now, and I seem to be alone there. Season 3 is proof that it can be heartwarming when it wants to. Dump TTG, put all the effort into Gumball.

Being in my 20's, I haven't regularly watched cartoons for almost 10 years due to being busy with work/school and other stuff. I still like them and will still watch some newer ones occasionally when flipping channels, but I usually get annoyed and don't watch too long before changing the channel because it's too stupid, or the animation annoys me too much.

I remember I used to watch this show called Cow and Chicken. It looked crappy and was stupid but I watched it for some reason.  I still REALLY don't know why. The Weird Al MLP episode reminded me of it because of "cousin" Boneless.

I do think that a lot of the newer shows seem to be getting "lazier" in terms of writing and/or animation which is kind of sad.

Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension

Uncle Grandpa to me is the ultimate...  "Well that was something." show.  I don't know what it was...  but it was something.

If I had to review every episode the extent of each review would be "Well that was an Uncle Grandpa.  ?/10"

No offense but maybe that's because it sucks? Which it does. The hole show is literally nothing but random farfetched nonsense...

Well the show is supposed to be a throwback to golden era cartoons like ones from Tex Avery. Filled with Looney Tunes logic, and no rules. In the day and age where people expect cartoons to be like Steven Universe or Korra, that's not going to work. Like I said, the show does nothing wrong moraly, and aside from Pizza Steve, I wouldn't call any of the characters "unlikeable". It isn't a show for everyone, and had it premiered on Cartoon Network in 1999 or 2000, it probably would be looked at as some great work of art due to nostalgia. As I said, I wouldn't mind watching it when it's on, but it isn't something I'll follow or marathon.

After watching an episode, it's not as bad as I initially thought since it can manage to pull off good humor every now and then. Heck, it can sometimes be as funny as early Spongebob. But some of their jokes seem more hit or miss. Like, the jokes that work come after a joke that doesn't work.

I will say, people get way too bitter with the hate of it. I know this because when Pieguyrulz gave it a positive review, there were some hate comments in there.

It's good that you bring up Cow and Chicken. To me, Uncle Grandpa is the modern day C&C. It's not for everyone, but those who get it can find some enjoyment out of it.

I don't hate it because I think its "the wrong way to make a cartoon" I hate it because its gross and mind numbing. Its just personal taste, you know. Some people prefer wacky, silly, slapstick cartoons with little to no rhime or reason, while others prefer cartoons with great comedy, as well as a great plot, a great setting, and great characters, who actually learn a lesson after going through an episode.

Its just personal preference, is all. Your right, there is no right way to make a cartoon. And for the record, while I do hate uncle grandpa, I don't hate Clarence...I don't really like it, either, but I don't hate it. But if there's any cartoon that can kiss my @$$ and go straight to Hel, its Teen Titans Go!! That piece of crap is an insult to both the fans of the original show and the original titans themselves.

Just curious but what exactly do you hate about Teen Titans GO? Is it because of the design, or the younger target audience, or just something else? I don't mind it since I like Teen Titans and I know that most if not all comic series has multiple versions.

I don't mind its target audience, or even its design. I hate it because it pisses all over the personality of the original characters, and makes them look like selfish, annoying, stupid douchebags. Example? Raven: she had always been dark and distant in the original show, but not to the point where she literally, and happily, dreams about killing all her best friends. Also, it was also true that, in the original show, Raven always found BB annoying, and seemed to dislike him, but not to the point where you could never tell that she secretly had feelings for him as a friend, whereas in TTG, Raven has no problems telling BB how much she hates him and will never have feelings for him.

I hate TTG because it turns the characters who I've loved and have been watching for years, and turns them into assholes. BB is brain dead and selfish, Cyborg is oblivious and annoying as hell, Robin is self-centered and idiotic, Starfire is nothing but Robin's ditzy love interest, and Raven is bland and unlikeable. It butchers their personalities.

Raven fav Titan! I kinda understand that but wouldn't the fact that there are a few episodes insisting that BB and Raven has a romantic relationship kinda counter the hate between them? I can see cyborg annoying. I kind of like how Robin is crazy which you could say considering he's has different people be robin. As for BB.... I nvr really cared much for him and then when I found out that Raven and BB fall in love in the actual comics... D: Anyways yea umm... BB just seems dumb regardless of series/incarnation I see him in.

Yeah, there are a few episodes showing them having romantic interest...only for it to end in BB getting insulted and or beaten by Raven, as well as the whole experience being forgotten the nedt episode. Also, Beast Boy may have been goofy or silly, but he was no where near as stupid as TTG version. In TTG, he so stupid that he didn't realize Tara was trying to kill him, even when she outright said it. I also hate it for making fun of BB and Tara's relationship.

It just insults my fond memories of the original show.

Oddly enough, that's my same exact opinion on Steven Universe and Adventure Time.

Then again, it's merely my opinion.

Okies. Also I think BB is probably closer to RL since i've ran into stupid people very much like this.

With the way Adventure Time is going I'm starting to feel the same way. Steven Universe completely agree.

He wasn't anywhere close to that stupid in the original show, or in the comics.

When he was with the Doom Patrol I don't think he got a real education. IDK i haven't really read that arc but it seems like they crippled him in knowledge.. probably thru excessive training.

Does BB go under any aliases when he becomes an adult hero? Also haven't seen much about Raven either.
