If it was a fake account it would have been found out a long time ago, it has been and still is Lauren Fausts official deviantart account. Why would Hasbro fire her for that? Twilight Sparkles voice actor Tara Strong has made multiple jokes and statements supporting cloppers and clopping and though Hasbro told her to tone that down she did not get fired for that so why would Lauren Faust get fired for a statement that was nowhere near as suggestive as Tara Strongs clopping jokes?

I don't think this topic really has near as much to do with canon and reproduction in Equestria as it has to do with your attitude towards sex.  Specifically, your attitude towards ponies having sex.  Because you implied in your initial post that the human residents of the EQG universe might still reproduce in more traditional ways.  Which suggests you've qualms with quadrupeds getting it on.  Talking, intelligent, sexually mature quadrupeds that marry and collect newborn foals from hospitals.  You've decided that sexual reproduction is something "inappropriate."  While it's actually, you know...  Perfectly natural.  Impregnation-by-rainbow is an unnatural and nonsensical method of reproduction rightfully confined to the past gen; no canon support for it exists in FIM.  You're deliberately ignoring evidence to the contrary while simultaneously providing no reliable evidence of your own.

 

Sexual reproduction in Equestria will not severely and permanently sully the minds of impressionable young viewers; there won't be any canon sex scenes.  It doesn't shatter some arbitrary concept of innocence in a world where giant, power hungry centaurs have DBZ energy battles with princesses and shape-shifting queens devour kittens.

It would never even occur to them, for christ's sake. Are we so uncomfortable with the biological functions that we all have that we cannot bear that they even be tangentially acknowledged? Parents let their children watch all manner of violent shows where characters get bloodied and beaten, and yet show so much as the slightest hint of sexuality and its all 'WONT SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN". Before you know it, the ponies are going to start wearing clothes at all time because clearly MLP is just way too sexy.

 

I don't mean you give you specifically a hard time, guy, but this is beyond ridiculous. It's not just MLP. People are so weird about sex, as if being exposed to it at an early age is going to ruin a child's life.

I'm detecting a case of Reductio ad Absurdum. The thing is that MLP ponies shouldn't reproduce sexually. And we probably should hide pictures of horses mating from kids. Also, the problem is that it validates clop. Clop/porn is when you record or depict the act. The problem here is the implication that the act itself exists.

Sexual depictions in the show are the least of my concerns. The difference here is that cartoons with humans imply that they reproduce the same as real humans, which to a kid may very well be the stork story, or whatever his parents judged was best to tell him. But here you have Lauren stating how exactly ponies reproduce. Imagine a kid decides to search for things about MLP on the internet and comes across Lauren's comment, he may then search for mammalian reproduction on Wikipedia and be psychologically scarred. Or, he may have already had sex explained to him, but to find that the ponies from the cartoon he watches canonically do it may be too upsetting for him.

 

I was actually writing a letter to Hasbro structured like that, without your snarky inserts of course. BTW their address is customersupport@hasbro.com, it's a bit difficult to find on their website.

See my above response. And I do find the way pony rumps are often rendered to be somewhat objectionable, though that's besides the point (although with this new development it may actually be relevant, and even more objectionable).

 

And improper exposure at an early age can have lasting psychological effects. I know at least 2 people who find sex repulsive and almost have a phobia of it, due to having it presented to them (by their parents nonetheless) at an early age.

You should not read too much into that. They clearly reproduce sexually as they are horses but I'm guessng the pregnancy duration is shorter for our cartoon ponies. I'd put it at somewhere around six months.

I've told this story before, but I think its relevant. When I was a kid, I was trying to get to my dad's email account, @hotmail. Being legendarily bad at spelling, I spelled it "hotmale", which took me to a gay porn site. Do you know how this even impacted my mental health? It didn't. I questioned why men (I'm going to say "doing things with their mouths" to keep it work safe) because I didn't know what I was looking at. I didn't much care either, because I had video games to go play. My point is, while my experience is not everyone's experience, I think that the impact of kids seeing sexual content is drastically overstated. I accidentally saw graphic gay porn and I didn't even care.

 

Obviously I can't make assumptions about you're friends without knowing their situation, but I find it extremely doubtful that the mere knowledge of sex would damage their psych. Something like walking in our their parents? Maybe. Witnessing (or being the victim of) sexual abuse? Likely. Knowing that people sometimes touch each other's naughty bits? Doubtful.

There's no reason for them to spring from fucking rainbows either. Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it. It's never been brought up in MLP where babies come from, and it probably never will be. This show doesn't go over how babies are made at all, it basically never talks about it. The way foals are made is just something people know how it would happen because we know how babies are made, and these are mammals. No one is talking about horses having sex in a human way.
