I think everyone should take an example from Tree Hugger. Remain chill. Remain calm. Reorganize your sutras. Deep breath in. Deep breath out. And go in without any expectations, so you won't be disappointed.

 

abandon your headacanons at the door. And don't forget that the professionals are the storytellers, and they're BETTER at it than you. MLP's animated series is not your fanfic. (that's what fanfic sites and MLP AU's are for)

I'm not super-hyped over it, but it is a departure from the norm of the show, and the show has been taking more of those eccentric courses lately. Each one is a chance, people are either going to love it or they're going to hate it. I'm actually more in anticipation of other future episodes down the line whose titles were leaked a while back. I'd rather wait and see before making a judgement over it. It's the smart thing to do.

 

I hear what you have to say and I agree, however, since this is the 100th episode.  It should go into syndication right? Which means the older episodes will be available on new channels. Right? 

The syndication cutoff for cartoons is normally 65 episodes, which is much of the reason why Season 3 was only 13 episodes. Unfortunately, in today's world of executive decisions driven by market research and demographics rather than actually getting down and seeing what's popular and why it works, MLP will be a tough sell. Most executives these days are very out of touch and don't have a creative bone in their bodies, and thus will see MLP as nothing more than "just another girls' show". It's a sad state, but that's where the industry is right now.

Expect fan service, its a milestone occasion and that will happen. I want to see the background ponies actually SPEAK for once. I wanted Sunset Shimmer in the 100th episode, but that's not going to happen. 

yeah, I'm kinda sad Sunny won't be in the 100th episode. But hey, maybe she'll be the star of Generation 5 to make up for it?

Eh, I'm not looking forward to the 100th episode really. I'm not a big fan of the background characters in the first place (except Derpy and Vinyl), plus I'm pretty sure the episode is going to be full of fan service (which I dislike in many shows, including anime). It's not like I'm hating on it nor am I excited about it, just neutral. I'll definitely watch the episode with an open mind. Let's see what the writers have in store for us fans.

I try not to read up on future episodes, so I didn't know about weddings or Cranky or anything.  In a perfect world, the episodes would focus on lesser mane characters, such as Cranky, Coco, etc. with some solid jokes or references to the background ponies, such as Vinyl or Octavia.  I hate to say it, but I've almost come to dislike them, not as ponies, but for their reputation.  When people on the internet have, say, Vinyl Scratch as their avatar for a website, it's bringing attention to a character that has never said anything and has been on-screen only a handful of times (or should I say hoof full?), instead of praising a character that has had a good character arc and has, you know, actually had some lines.  Anyway, I should finish this up with saying that if I wanted to watch a fanservice episode of MLP, I would have watched "Double Rainboom" or something.

Anyway, reading this again, I feel like a crabby old man ranting about flat screen TVs.  Who knows, maybe this'll be an amazing episode.  So far, I've loved S5, especially "Make new friends but keep Discord," and we don't want this to be a blemish.  I haven't checked the writer yet, but mystery writer, make my day with the 100th episode.  I want to be able to eat my words.

I am looking forward to it and I trust the creators of the show to not overdo the fanservice. If you do it right then it turns out great you know. The fans love it but at the same time they appreciate that it was not overdone and completely ruined the show.

I'm very much looking forward to a background pony episode, because it vastly expands the depth of these characters, adds substance and the ability empathize with them, and I think it'll be exciting to see an entirely different set of characters get the spotlight for once. Plus, it's a foregone conclusion that a certain somepony will speak, and that for me provides some closure and a happy ending to the whole nightmare drama that kicked off on the morning of Jan 25th 2012. I even took the day off from work so I could enjoy the experience to its fullest. Needless to say, I'm hyped as shit for this.

That's how the doomsayers see it, but this show executes its stories far more tastefully than that. It'll focus on the background characters, but I'm sure it'll be in a way we can enjoy, without rolling our eyes out of our heads.

Fanning The Fans

 

If there's one thing this show has taught me over the years, it's that you should never judge an episode of Friendship is Magic by its premise. Some of what are now my most favorite episodes are the same episodes I rolled my eyes at when I read the synopsis before watching them.

 

Episode 100 may be an intolerable orgy of shameless pandering to background pony fans, or it may be a great episode on its own merits that happens to pander to background pony fans as well. We'll know soon enough.

 

But one thing we can count on for sure, no matter what: There Will Be Drama.™ :grin2:

I'm cautiously optimistic. On one hand, this is an imporant milestone for the show, and I believe the cast and crew of mlp are talented enough to tell a good story, even with all the predicted homages to the fandom.

 

On the other hand, I realize there's no way they'll be able to make everyone happy, no matter how hard they try.

 

As such, I'm just going to strap in and enjoy the ride.

Initially, I was hyped for this, but reading the comments here changed all that. Good thing Dark Qiviut gives a sound logic if Vinyl is voiced by Nowacking on an official episode. By having Vinyl voiced by Nowacking, Nowacking's Vinyl's voice became property of Hasbro, thus any further fan project using the voice would receive C&D.

 

Anyway, I'm now not hyped for this because there's no possible outcome where everyone will be happy after watching the 100th episode. After the episode, someone somewhere will be readying his rant on how somepony didn't speak or show up at the episode.

Still on the fence even after the short synopsis, especially with the whole Mane 6 dealing with a monster thing.  I know you want to have them gone for the episode, but you have the friendship problem map, use it! Seriously, just have them go to another place that needs friendship to be spread and that's why they're not there.

I'm cautiously hopeful. I think the fact that they're devoting one episode to the ponies in the background is kind of cool, especially as they've taken on such a life of their own with the fans. It will be neat to see them get some of their due after just being there for show.

 

The one thing I hope for, though, is that Derpy gets a canon name and a speaking part again, but that may be too much to ask for.

OH hell ye, i wont be expecting much from this episdoe.  'for the bronies" oh god no! just no!  Seroulsy the fandom comes up with pretty stupid stuff and dam it fanservice is just poor play for an entire episode. I'm not getting my hopes up, but to say I'm not looking forward to it is wrong. I look forward to every episode. I'd imagine headcanons being shattered. I'm not a fan of background ponies honestly, so it's not like it's the episode of a life time or anything. I do want to see a lot of bronies in rage when it turns out that Vinyl Scratch is a mute. (Or when the voices aren't how they imagine it. )

Is this really true?  That it's going to be all background ponies?  If that's true, then wow.  I think it's an interesting and great idea.

 

You know, it's funny, when the mane six, or at least some of them, are featured in every episode, I hear bronies complaining about how annoying it is that the mane six are shoehorned into every episode.     Now, I hearing complaints that not having the mane six in this episode isn't right, and a terrible decision.

Anyway, I'm super excited to see what they come up with.  Also, I don't really see what's wrong with fanservice.  Isn't the whole point of being an entertainer, of any kind, to serve your fans?  "I know, let's make this episode suck so everyone will hate it.  That's thinkin with your head."  The point is it's fine as long as they do it right and don't make it stupid.

 

I mean, geeze, we've all been complaining for years that Rainbow needs a solo song, and then she finally gets one, and all you hear is complaints that "the only reason they did it was for fanservice."  Seriously?!
