advanced Roleplaying Discord -- Searching for EQE players

Well, the way I saw it was because from all the times he's made an entrance in the series (Aside from Make New Friends But Keep Discord), they're always so 'pop' in yer face. He likes to make a scene so all da ponies know he's there, ya know? Go big or think in the thinking tree for ways to go big! ...Wait, that's not right...

 

But I suppose the whole 'sneak surprise' could work in it's own little way too. I mean he's Discord. He can do whatever he wants! (Well, except take over Equastria again, but still. Almost whatever he wants)

Haha yeah. I just thought it'd be cool if some of the RPers didn't know that Discord was going to appear, so they'd really have to improvise!

I'm sure at first they'd wonder why I was so strict about roleplay rules, when it was just a plain-old SOL...

 

 

 

But maybe this would work best as a series of one-one-one RPs? I dunno. It also depends on if you're still up to it.

Ah yeah. I gotcha. Looking the idea over, it admittedly does work for his character to have a neat, and spontaneous surprise arrival.

 

And yeah, I'd totally still be up to doing this.

Though the way you advertised it makes it seem more like a group rp sort of thing, a one-on-one rp could work as well~ ^^

For you see, I too have a bit of an ambition to represent Discord; do you see where this leaves us?  Suddenly, the oppression of other individuals who might, in fact, have a chance to portray such a fine and distinguished character as the esteemed Draconequus seems like more than a rumour... it, in fact, may be a conspiracy, hmm?

 

Ergo, I propose... a duel.

 

I am under the impression that I, Randimaxis, can out-Discord Sans The Skeleton for the right to represent the Lord of Chaos in this... this... well, whatever this becomes.  Now, I DO mean this all in the name of CHAOS fun, so if my challenge is refused then I shall accept that - though it would be a SHAME if such a Discordian as myself weren't allowed the chance to prove my superiority in such an endeavor.

 

However, should my challenge be accepted... then I will metaphysically and verbally smack Sans so hard, Derpy's eyes will uncross... I mean, heh heh, then we can possibly have the others here decide HOW we're going to battle each other, and then we will face off until one of usSANSgives up, or the audience (whomever they are) votes and chooses their pick.

 

So, putting this into the ether for all to peruse; does this sound like a worthy idea?  Or do I practice my Chicken Call: "Oh, Saaaaa-aaaaans?  Bok bok BOK!  Saaaaa-aaaaaans..."

Oh what a humerus jest this is, to see a novice try to claim right to such chaotic power. Truly, you do not understand the gravity of what you have gotten yourself into.

 

But I will confess that I commend you for having the nerve for challenging me for such a role.

 

I hereby say that I shall accept your challenge for this endeavor. But be warned. My skill in comedy and chaos knows NO bounds! And the results will have you LITERALLY shaken down to the bone.

Prompt suggestions seems the most suiting so that my opponent and I can have a setting to work with, and the best chaotic response shall claim dominion over the Lord Of Chaos himself.

But like, I can join when a Discord is decided? And which version of her is fine for this?

I would prefer the EQE version, although I'm yet to read it. My main concern is that I really want this rp to be fair and fun. It's slice-of-life, so I'd rather we don't go too crazy with tech and other such things that seem less-than-canon. I'd be super glad to have you join so long as we stick to that.

After his rather embarrassing blunder at the Grand Galloping Gala, Discord sits, stewing in his home as he replays the night's events in his mind, over and over. Of course, he was allowed to make mistakes, and it was nothing to dwell on, but the fewer catastrophes the better--apparently. Ponies are strange like that, he thought. This was something he felt he needed to learn from. That's Twilight's influence, he imagined.

So Discord began to consider things, He considered his friend Fluttershy's words. He considered the possibility of different friends for different things. He considered, perhaps, that it was about time he spread his interspecies wings and flew on his own with regards to this whole "making friends" thing. But how to do it...

 

Maybe he should consult one of the friends he already had, just for a little head start. He considered Twilight, but only briefly. Sure, she was the "Princess of Friendship", but she lacked a certain style and spontaneity that seemed to make the two of them clash, to put it kindly. He quickly scrapped that plan and instead went to Pinkie Pie, who seemed to be the next best thing when it came to friendship experts, even if she was somewhat annoying.

 

Shockingly enough, she suggested he throw a party. Well, what could possibly go wrong?

 

Now, if you'd like, you could use this is a prompt. Either play it out, continue it, change it, prequel it, have it for breakfast, whatever. It will help if you include another character in your rp "application", for dialogue's sake, but it doesn't have to be Pinkie.

 

Also, I'd like to offer some advice:

In the show, Discord's antics are primarily visual. This, however, is a text-only RP, so you're going to need to find a way to translate his gags in a new medium. Sure, describing a visual transformation could work at times, but it would be much better if you managed to incorporate and manipulate this form of communication into your antics. Of course, Discord isn't PURELY antics, but they will definitely play an important role. Also, don't go too power-crazy. He may be Discord, but that doesn't mean he'll be the main character in every conversation. You walk the razor's edge--so be careful! 

 

(I think putting footnotes in his speech would be a pretty funny way for him to break the fourth wall, if it comes to that.)

This is all so confusing. There appear to be several interested parties and no progress. A clarification could go a long way in helping this cause. Is the original purpose of this search still the same? What are the terms of and expectations towards roleplaying Discord? Is this a one-shot affair or a binding, long-term engagement?

Hopefully this clears it up. At one point, we found someone to play Discord, but while we were trying to conjure up a roleplay topic, another person who wanted the role of Discord came to challenge them, and our original Discord roleplayer disappeared....hence the lack of progress. In other words:

 

 NEWS SECTION:

It seems as though our top candidate to play Discord has gone and vanishified, meaning we're back at stage one-- auditions.   The next order of business would be to decide on an RP topic that Discord could fit comfortably into. We're taking suggestions here! A good place to start would be the theme of Discord trying to make new friends that might share his interests, in view of the events of "Make new Friends but Keep Discord". ~~~

 

As for whether this is short-term or long-term, well...it's a roleplay. It'll go on for as long as the group retains interest. That's really all I can say. Ideally, it'll plant the seed for future roleplays with everyone's favourite Daconequees.

 

The terms and expectations for being in this roleplay are basically the same as those in the EQE: You have to be a good, stable roleplayer who wont disappear in the middle of a conversation, no powergaming, no OP characters, you have to retain a general adherence to canon in terms of lore and such, and be generally capable of proper spelling, grammar, and legibility. Basically this means that I wont be accepting players who are going to make the game confusing, annoying, or tiresome for everyone else.

The terms for roleplaying Discord himself basically come down to being able to accurately portray the character's humour, mannerisms, and personality while not going too crazy with power. Obviously this character has the ability to bend reality, so it comes down to the roleplayer's own good judgement in terms of using the right amount of chaos for the given situation.

 

So, if you're interested in this idea, maybe suggest a topic to roleplay about, or, if you want, you can audition for the role of Discord!
