Is it odd that adult ponies have sleepovers and tea parties?

(or is it more a case of "kid at heart/ being only as young as you feel"? Or just plain Peter Pan syndrome on the ponies' parts)

I get that the show- while gradually being geared to audiences outside of the target age range of 2 to 12 years olds, is still basically promotion for the toyline, buuuuuut......am I the only one scratching my head at why, in spite of this fact, there are adult ponies with their who each run/ assist their own (or someone else's) business (in MLP:FIM) and high-school students who are sophomores and senoirs (EQG) attending things like teaparties and slumber parties, which are usually things for a much younger generation (like the CMC, which oddly, we've never seen them organize or take part in). Just seems odd for ponies of the Mane 6's age to do, it seems, while they're old enough to attend fancy balls with the Canterlot elite and manage their own businesses, on the other hoof.

On the other hand....hoof....while I'm not much a fan of the CMC, I would, however like to see them doing more kid-type stuff like slumber parties and whatnot.

Am I overthinking it? Is it weird? Not weird? An activity meant for younger age groups or all ages? Do you think the adult Canterlot/ Manehattan/ Cloudsdale/ ect. ponies do the same activities?

Maybe it's a difference in culture. Perhaps these activities are just common for ponies they're age. The same can be said IRL. Plenty of cultures have practises that seem weird to us and maybe even childish. But, to them, they believe it to be normal since they grew up in a different culture. For example, maybe tea parties are considered formal events to them

A little of topic but there is an episode where the cmc spend the night at fluttershy's house which I guess qualifies as a sleepover. I also dont see anything wrong because why should age determine whether your actions are ok? I go to one of my good friends houses every once in a while and neither one of us consider it weird. Neither one of us are gay and we aren't in the same bed so why would it be wrong?

I'm a guy, and not a kid at all, and I would like to go to tea parties.

Maybe not the stereotypical super feminine kind, but just sitting around drinking tea and eating cake with friends? Sounds like a good time to me. Wouldn't even mind a sleepover every now and then with close friends. And I honestly don't see why anyone would view something like that as being for kids only.

Seriously, we put age limits on the weirdest things.

I think they just use different terms, but I think the underlying premise is that foreign to us before. If yoiu&'very ever had a friend crash on your couch for a night, in Equestria it'd probably be referred to as a sleepover. Invite a friend or two over for a light snack and something to drink? That's a tea party by pony standards.

I don't count that episode as a sleepover, because they really weren't sleeping over (didn't seem like they spent much time in Fluttershy's house, doing things with her at all) or doing sleepover things, before they went off adventuring into the forest.

also, it's not weird to just visit a friends' house. We all do it (those of us who have friends, that is). It was more the activities I was bringing into question.

I think that was more a combination of necessity, as Rarity and AJ couldn't make it home in the weather, and Twilight's emotional maturity. She had never had friends so never really had any sleepovers as a kid. So now that she had friends, and an excuse, she was in a sense catching up to her own childhood.

I sleep at his house. We spend hours playing video games and then we sleep on the couches.

hm. Perhaps you may be right. Admittedly, I do tend to forget from time to time, that their pony culture might be completely different, though, when their country, landmarks, and technological/ historic eras & fashions seem similar to our own

That does make a certain degree of sense, now that I think about it. Especially Twilight's maturity back then.....case in point, Lesson Zero and the whole "I'LL MAKE a friendship problem! Muwahahahaha!" God, Twilight >_>

I guess this would also explain Pinkie's affinity for slumber parties, too (after she learns Twi intended to sleep in the library, in Rainbow Rocks).

Well Pinkie's just a kid at heart in all matters, part of why I like her.

In Rainbow Rocks though, they're still teenagers. Of course they would have sleepovers.

as do I, actually. I can relate, which is why I adore Pinkie so much over the other Mane 6 (except Rarity, who's close second).

Though I would assume anyone reading would wonder why I'd need to ask such a thing, if that were true. Honestly, the scenario just struck me as a little odd, even for one being a kid at heart (and sometimes, admittedly- as everyone else does, once in a while, I may or may not think things through to the fullest extent, when something's on my mind) So it's nice that everyone pitched in their answer and I could see how it all made sense when taking different customs into consideration. Silly me.

What? Am I not allowed to have a sleepover with friends anymore as an adult? Darn, I must have missed the memo. Too late! xD

I don't know. Is it odd that a bunch of 20 year olds watch a cartoon show, about pastel colored ponies? ;)

Hell I'm a 23 year old guy and I still sleep over at my friend's house :P

You're never to old to hang out with friends and what's the harm in spending the night around people you like being around :)

I've been getting more into writing fanfics, mainly MLP since it has such a deep pool of creativity to pull from.

I'm good with character and story concepts, so if you need help with a fanfic or something feel free to Private message me

But don't be hurt if I have to decline if I'm tapped out for a bit. Otherwise I'm fairly good at it just sometimes I have to let my mind subconsciously think of some ideas.

Well this is probably going to sound boring and I guess you're looking for a more complicated answer but I'm just thinking that that's how things are in Equestria. I mean turn the question around, why are adults not having tea and slumber parties in reality? Because it'd be seen as weird for some. In the society we've grown up in we have been told that fun and silly things are only for children. Maybe this is just not the case where the ponies live.

I must say, however, that I wonder how they can have teaparties with hooves.. I mean how could they possibly be able to bend the tip of the hooves like a hand? :P

I know people don't like when I say this but I really do think it is kind of pointless to put effort into analyzing these kind of questions for a cartoon show about magical colorful happy ponies created for children, questions like "how did applejack think when she did a or b" is awesome for discussion but something like "why do the ponies never go to the bathroom?" do clearly not have an answer because it's all made up and the creators have not thought about every single little detail that is irrelevant for kids to enjoy the show, it's just the way things are.

Twilight wanted a sleepover as a throwback to being a child, when she didn't have any sleepovers, so dragging Rarity and Applejack along for one when the opportunity presented itself was probably why.

In EqG, it's less of an issue. Girls have sleepovers into their teens all the time.

And, anyone can have a friend over for tea. I'd love to come for tea. I'll bring scones.

Considering they're young adult teens its not that surprising. Even as adults I wouldn't find it too surprising. Its not like they're sex parties. If you watched chick flicks like the Pitch Perfect series this happens quite often.

And yes I was dragged along to watch Pitch Perfect 2, so I know this for a fact.

Excuse you all I am twenty years old and I still have sleepovers and what could be considered tea parties. I also make pillow forts, play "kiddie" videogames like mario kart, and watch a cartoon about candy-colored horses. I do these things because, shockingly enough, despite being an adult I still like to have fun :P

I think people should stop seeing adulthood as such a boring thing and not be afraid to have a little light-hearted fun! ;)
