What are your thoughts on the first half of Season 5 so far?

Now that the newest episode has aired and the second half of season 5 is going on a hiatus, what do you think of season 5 so far?

 

To me so far I think it has been pretty amazing and it keeps getting better with each episode. There were so many references to past seasons, lots of background characters being in the spotlight and so much more. Out of all the 13 episodes that have been out, only 2 were not pretty good in my honest opinion. 

 

What are you thought's about season 5? Any favorite moment, episode, or character's that were shown throughout the first half? Also what are you thoughts or expectations of the second half of the season when it comes back from hiatus?

Episode 100 will be a hard one to beat for me, but the 2 animatics shown for the future episodes look promising, and though the wait might be long, it'll be worth it in the end

I agree episode was really amazing and there were some other great episodes as well in my opinion. Seeing the two animatics also makes me excited and wonder what the future will hold for the rest of the season.

I have not seen episodes 6 and 10, but so far the worst episode this season that I've seen has been Castle Sweet Castle. That's pretty amazing since I think Castle Sweet Castle is mediocre at worst and decent at best.

 

This season has had a lot of really great ideas and manages to keep everyone in character while having us entertained. Also, the dialogue for most of the episodes isn't consistent clunky exposition dumps.

Slice of Life: So crazy, so fun, it's crazy fun!

Princess Spike: Didn't work. It was kinda painful to watch, actually.

Party Pooped: The yaks were unbearable but Pinkie Pie and Twilight were its redeeming value.

Amending Fences: It was enjoyable despite a bit of cringy melodrama.

Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep: Amazing episode! That or the buzz hasn't worn off yet.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this season thus far. There has only been one episode that I didn't enjoy (Princess Spike) but there have also been episodes which have become some of my favourites of the entire series ('Amending Fences', 'The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone' & 'Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?'). I can't wait to see the rest of the season!

So far, my favorite season of the show. 

I like how in this season it seems the writers are going in a different direction to making an episode. I also like how they take risks by doing things that haven't been done much in other seasons. So far it seems they hit more than they miss and it's been turning out really good so far. I hope the rest of the season turns out very well this way.

I agree. The only episodes that I didn't really enjoy were "Appleoosa's Most Wanted" and "Princess Spike." There have been a few bumps here and there, but I think it's been pretty good so far and I'm excited for what's to come  .

Pretty much in the majority that say most of the season's turning out really well except for Princess Spike and Appleoosa's Most Wanted, even though I personally liked Troubleshoes as a character.

 

The only ones I've seen who just want to tear season five apart (particularly Slice of Life) are the analysts..... oh, sorry. I mean, anal-ysts.

Princess Spike (to the point I wrote a fic about it [/shamelessSelfpromotion]) and my very unpopular opinion towards Make New Friends, but Keep Discord. Appleloosa's Most wanted and Bloom and Gloom were weak episodes, but they were still enjoyable in their own rights, but the first two I didn't like at all.

I'm loving all the throwbacks to previous seasons in it, I think this season has been the best for continuity in this sense, and I'm loving how some of the background ponies are finally getting some canon character added to them (even if you exclude Slice of Life, there is still Amending Fences). So all in all, not a bad season at all so far. But this hiatus is the Worst. Possible. Thing!

here is the way my ratings work 

 

if the episode is under 5/10 I hate it and I never want to watch it again

 

if the episode is between 5/10 and 6/10 that means I didn't like it *looks at Bloom and Gloom* and I wont watch it again 

 

if the episode is between 6/10 and 7/10 that means I think it was sub-par and I may or may not watch it again later

 

if the episode is between 7/10 and 8/10 that means I like it and it gets a pass from me and Ill be likely to watch it again sometime later

 

if the episode is between 8/10 and 9/10 that means I like it alot and saw it as a great episode and I will be very likely to watch it later (usually a hard threshold for episodes to break)

 

if the episode is between 9/10 and 10/10 then that means I loved it and I will be happy to watch it more than twice

 

Season 5 is becoming my new favorite season of MLP. It's way better than Season 4 was, that's for damn sure. I love how they have been going after such mature topics, from Neo-Marxist cults, to one of the characters going through the 5 stages of grief. My Little pony Friendship is Magic holds its mantle high as one of the best cartoons on television, IMO.

 

And I think the second half of the season will be even better. For example, my heart melted with that amazing song that Lena Hall's character sung. Then I saw the production code, 524, and I got very sad, cause that is literally the episode before the season 5 finale.

 

But all in all, very good first half, and I have even higher expectations for the second half, so we will have to see what the future brings.

I loved it, but I have a feeling the second half of the season will be much better. I've only disliked two episodes so far, so that's a good sign. Overall, it's been a great season. We just haven't had a song in a while. ;(

This might be my favorite season of the show thus far. The writing is great as ever, the characters are still the gems they've always been, the adventures have piled on the fantastical elements but the more subdued episodes are still just as enjoyable.

I really liked The Cutie Map (both parts), Tanks for the Memories, Make Friends but Keep Discord, Slice of Life, and Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?.

 

I liked Bloom and Gloom, The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone, Party Pooped, and Amending Fences.

 

I had mixed feelings on Castle Sweet Castle, Appleloosa's Most Wanted, and Princess Spike.

 

Season 5 has been slightly better (Season 4 had four great episodes, four good episodes, and four mixed bag episodes at this point, and season 5 has had five, four, and three respectively) to me than season 4 so far.

This season is turning out to be the middle ground after season 4, which I believe to be the best.

 

There have dissapointingly been no perfect, blow your socks off episodes so far, such as Hurricane Fluttershy or Pinkie Pride, but there has been quality nontheless with 4 "gold-standard" episodes so far this season (Bloom and Gloom, MNFBKD, Lost treasure of Griffonstone and Amending Fences).

 

There has also been a good share of decency, with silver episodes like the opener, Slice of Life, Tanks for the memories and the most recent episode.

 

There has been a small amount of meh, such as Castle Sweet Castle and Princess Spike, and thankfully only a small amount of bad from the likes of Party Pooped and especially Appleloosa's Most Wanted.

 

Overall I get the inkling that season 5 is going to get better in the second half, and so far I still hold the belief they are still staving off seasonal rot in its entirety. Better than 1 and 3, but not as good as 2 or 4. There is still time to improve and take 1st place however, and I still don't understand those that simply believe season 5 is crap and nothing but bad.... Don't they know quality when they see it, or are they just so nostalgic for the "gold ol days" that they see whatever they want to see!?
