As we know, we are now in a hiatus for MLP. Also, recently synopses for future episodes were "leaked". With the information we have, I have come up with a possible reason why we are getting this hiatus, apart from scheduling difficulties and whatnot, and something that may confirm the leaks. Again, there will be very heavy spoilers so view at your own discretion.

 

Also, most of these spoilers regard future events, both confirmed and unconfirmed.

 

 

 

First of all, according to the leak, the final episode will regard Starlight Glimmer and the fact Dash's first Rainboom gave the Mane Six their cutie marks. This much was also confirmed during the SDCC which I have a link for (again, the video is an upcoming spoiler):

However, one thing the leak mentions that the video does not show is that Sunset Shimmer plays a role in the finale as well.

 

Well, the hiatus is scheduled in such a way that Friendship Games (Equestria Girls 3) will air before the finale. This may very well be because they need this movie to take place before the finale, which could make the third movie confusing and unrealistic if aired after the finale. If the finale is aired before, Twilight would have met Sunset a third time, also making Friendship Games the fourth time they met. The finale may even make the movie relevant and canon in accordance with the show. Again, we don't know the exact reason, but if the leak is true, it most likely has something to do with that.

 

This is why I think the hiatus supports the leak.

 

 

There's my slightly out there theory. I'll admit, there are probably many holes and my wording may be a bit confusing. I'm not usually the theory type of guy and I typed this all on my phone. Your input is welcome and encouraged.

It has nothing to do with supporting the show's narrative; networks air episodes out of order all the time, and we're talking about a channel that gives even less of a crap than they do.

 

Discovery Family gets more money by airing ads during new episodes. It doesn't matter which show, it just has to be a new episode. For them, it makes no sense to waste several new episodes on a single given day, so they're doing what they did to Littlest Pet Shop and forcing a hiatus so the episodes can be distributed throughout the year. Don't worry, we've got new episodes of that crappy Jungle Book show to look forward to.

 

I hate Discovery Family so much.

Ah. I'm not really familiar with the business scheme of Discovery Family so I didn't know that. I'm honestly not as mad about the hiatus as I was when I first heard about it though. I kinda got over it. I just hope what I said still holds some water as some of the leak did make me want it to be true.

@@CITRUS KING46,Is rignt in that one of the reason for the hiatus is about marketing, however Glike I do think you are onto something about it happening after the EG:FG. 

 

As we know right now, MLP lineup is the EG:FG movie, the second half of season 5, season 6 and the MLP (pony) movie. With the EG:FG in Sep, this allows the marketing team to ramp up for that without having to worry about the new episodes of MLP and the season final coming up and over shadowing it since the movie. So I do think marketing, especially since two of the new S5 episodes are Halloween and Winter Holiday themed were created with the idea that they should be shown when the human counterpart happens, hence most likely the hiatus will end near Halloween. 

 

Now for the info about SS for her possible pony return, it would be interesting if S5 left us on a bit of a cliff hanger with the arrival of SS, but the issue would leave us with another one of Twlight save everyone or SS would have to save everyone which would make for an odd S6, unless the newly reformed people were being looked at as replacements for a short time to save them...but that doesn't feel right either. I mean we could  have it that the girls retain their memories of who they had been, only to find themselves living another life with what would have happened if they had never had the rainboom....but idk it still feels a bit to fanfic like for my taste, unless there looking for S6 to have some of the friends of the mane 6 going out to help and solve friendship issues with-them, as to help them regain their sparks, with SS heading the way as a new possible element of empathy. 

 

So a big maybe? It really is hard to say and the staff would really have to possible be ok with the idea of the girls not being the mane starts for season 6 since such a HUGE plot point of SS return would either have to be that she come in at the very end and everything is being left to explain in S6 or things are going to get kind of complicated.

But really this is all some wild conspiracy theory stuff (Bush was behind 9/11 by the way) (no, not really thats stupid, why would people think that) (i mean really...). I dont even think FG will have pony Twilight at all if the trailer is anything to go by. And it will be AU Sunset Shimmer, not the current universe one, so why would it matter the order?

 

Theres really no way to know until it happens, but all i got to say is if we see Sunny in a season finale i could probably die happy that moment.

My first theory for this hiatus was so they could premiere the Friendship Games during the hiatus without interference, but this also makes sense. It is a theory that I hope does not become true. The EG films being cannon would be rather irritating to me and I am already worried about the finale quite a bit. I am not fond of it's plot idea. Tying EG into it would just make it more convoluted, unless they want to bring Sunset Shimmer in without mentioning EG somehow, which would be rather tricky.

Right now they are claiming that Charlie Day being on the show is going to happen solely because there was a post a year ago saying he was going to voice Fluttershy's brother.

To be fair, they've been right about far more preposterous notions. I mean before Generation VI of Pokemon they leaked pretty much every Pokemon. They even leaked Duck Hunt being in Smash Bros (not to mention Bowser Jr. and Dark Pit) and who would've thought that.

 

Also who is this Charlie Day? I've never heard of him (hopefully he's not a super famous guy and I'm just uncultured. )

He is very famous for creating and starring in a show called It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but he has begun doing children's films like The Lego Movie.

 

I think another possible reason for this hiatus is that the season started too late in Hasbro's view or Discovery Family's view, and that even when the season started DHX was still too far behind.

 

Imagine if the original plan was to have Friendship Games air first then the season. The holiday episodes would have lined up, the season would have been finished, we would have not had all this confusion about when the season started, and we wouldn't have needed breaks.

I'll take a guess that they wanted a Halloween and Christmas episode, but production scheduling would have had them miss the holidays in 2014, so they're planning their schedule for the 2015 holidays.

While they do manage to get some legit leaks, for every one that's right there's usually more than a dozen that are just fake. Going to need some more proof that he's the same legit source as the last leak other than he's an Anon on 4chan.

I am going to ask one more question to make things easier, but if this was always planned this way, then why couldn't they have split Season 5 up into two seasons?

 

In all seriousness if they made two 13 episode seasons they could have shilled more toys and then wowed fans when Season 6 came back during the same year.

Possibly multiple reasons.

 

1. Season 5 actually has a main story with continuity with regards to the whole Starlight Glimmer thing, plus various episodes of the season so far has had to do with Cutie Marks, so they may want to make one season for this whole storyline.

 

2. The work it would take to be signed onto another season with a completely new channel and company would be taxing, plus they may already have a planned budget that could be jeopardized by advertising a new season and whatnot.

 

3. I don't think they want to resort to the Season 3 route and make a halved season, especially since if they do so Season 6 would have to be halved as well, unless they want to the merge the latter half of this season with another season's content.

 

4. I don't think the toys have much to do with whether they cut up a season into more seasons or not.
