general media Experienced the parody first?

Have you watched or listened to a parody of something before seeing the original? What is the name of the original and the parody you watched?

This happens to me quite often. This is partially because I am a Weird Al fan that doesn't listen to much modern mainstream music. I hear his parody of a song before I listen to the original, if I even bother to listen to the original at all.

I first saw Weird Al's White and Nerdy music video nearly three years ago and I just watched the original, Ridin'.

This applies to FiM for me in this case. I saw some of the first .MOV videos and the Grand Galloping Collab before I watched the show proper, in fact I saw that stuff one whole year before I started watching the show! Kinda crazy to think about. I am glad I found those though because those are what introduced me to the show in the first place. ^-^

I've heard a few Weird Al parodies before I actually listened to the original. Here's some examples:

The originals are Ridin' by Chamillionaire and Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio, in order.

Didn't think anyone would mention him in just the 2nd reply. Still, I guess it's to be expected, he is a huge artist known mainly for making parodies.

I actually saw some Alushy shorts based on the character Alucard before watching the original Anime Hellsing  :grin2:

Also, before i started watching Digimon i first saw Agumon on the cover of a MAD Magazine. And this cover made me interested in watching Digimon. :fluttershy:

I saw the family guy parodies of star wars 4 5 and 6 before I saw the originals. In fact, I've never seen the original trilogy at all.

That situation must be remedied, immediately. Star Wars is fun because, like MLP, there are tons of background character that don't even have speaking roles who have been given fandom personalities. It's just plain awesome. Also, the original trilogy is the best of the two.

I'm a songwriter, well not really just a random hobby I have, anyway back when I was into doing Minecraft Parodies I heard so many parodies of the song When Can I See You Again, and I had no clue what the song was, never had heard of it, I ended up writing a song parodying it called What is This Parodying, I never put it on Youtube though because this was at a time when a bunch of them were getting taken down by content id, and I didn't want to risk a copyright strike on my channel.

I'm with Kyoshi on this, I saw the .MOV vids on Youtue a good year or so before I ever touched even actual clips from the show proper.

In retrospect of watching MLP:FiM, it makes me realise that actually the .MOV makers really did their homework!

Hmm, other things...I heard a lot of Minecraft parodies before I heard the originals, and a fair few parodies of Poker Face before I actually heard the original :P

EDIT: I just watched the Grand Galloping Collab because of you Kyoshi! I think I'm scarred for life :okiedokielokie:
