For this month's drawing contest, the theme was Norse mythology. The submissions we received were all excellent, but here are the five that we felt stood above the rest.

But now it is time for to pick the one you feel is the best. Vote for your choice above! And don't wait too long to choose as this poll will close next Monday.

Having a hard time choosing between Melon and Lurinym. Luri certainly is catching the Icelandic Auroras, however, Melon has the more viking style.

Oh my, these are all incredibly lovely!  Danish Toenails' piece probably has the most unique style of the bunch, but I had to go with Lucky Lass's piece on this one.  But great job to all 5 nominees, all your pieces look great!

I like how Sombra is Sköll from Norse Mythology . Sköll was the wolf that chased the sun while Hati Hróðvitsson was the wolf that chased the moon. Both would finally catch up with them and eat them. Their father was Fenrir, the one who killed Odin .

I'd have to say #5 just barely edges out #1 in terms of composition, it's more dynamic and has a comfortable space between the character and the edges of the canvas. Both have great color palettes and are rendered really well within their own styles, but I think #5 has a lot of potential to grow. If the artist ever decided to, he/she could do a detail pass on this and really turn it into a gem.

Oh man, I really regret entering the contest this time around.... err rather, I think maybe I should have entered a different one with a theme that I was more confident and comfortable in.   

 

I also kinda regret doing a traditional art and really trying to pronounce the idea that it was traditional... I may have gone too far with it and sorta tarnished it...  . Guess I kinda had the idea in mind that most of the entries were going to be digital and wanted to make a showing that you didn't have to do something digitally or be a digital artist to have awesome looking artwork. (digital art is sometimes overly glorified imo)

 

 

Also just as a suggestion for the next contest, would it be at all plausible to make the artist of each artwork anonymous until the end of the voting period? 

 

I ask because much like the banner contests, I think if you attach a name to the artwork before the winner is announce it may result in votes being cast due to something like "member status" instead of a genuine liking and vote towards the artwork itself.  _{(not that I'm saying anyone would actually do that just mentioning it as a suggestion)}
