Hawk Moth 390 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 How many of these bands are actually from the progressive rock era in the 70's? They all seem pretty recent. I guess decades aren't important as long as the music fits the bill. Le Kvlt Dawn 2,368 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 Admit it, you like progressive metal. And what's wrong with being an egghead? Eggheads are intelligent and do awesome things. Like SCIENCE. And make computers and video games and movies. Basically, all of our entertainment is made by eggheads So, Quo Vadis: And probably my favorite Opeth song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvVf1C8tGlc Science is boring, I prefer history. I'm way too kvlt to be an egghead, all I did was download Opeth's discography and put in my iPod. And the only reason Mastodon appeals to me is because they're sludge metal. That's because this thread is also for progressive metal. Haven't you ever heard of Dream Theater? (I don't like them THAT much)

Progressive metal! ... I don't think I've ever listened to it, and I doubt I'd like it more than progressive rock. Prog rock is definitely my favorite genre of music. Here's an ELO song relevant to MLP. I present to you all: Twilight. You should so listen to some of Steven Wilson's solo works, one thing that I can tell ya about his music, is that he definitely did his homework on the genre. Modphase 1,274 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 As Hansel hinted, and I agree, there's no arguing that Pink Floyd is the best progressive rock band. So having more Pink Floyd in this thread wouldn't hurt... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfUkFLfHSsE

And I'm glad that you liked the Steven Wilson song, that one's probably my favorite track from his newest album. Since we're on a Pink Floyd roll have this song. Moog the Kvlt 1,460 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 We're going on about Dream Theater now? I'm okay with this These two are some of my favorite songs that they did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4yzYKIiV9Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH_9lJxeiXg And yeah sorry RD, as much as I like Rush I kind of have to agree with everyone else on Pink Floyd being the best progressive band
Hansel 1,512 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 For a thread about such a pretentious genre, I'm honestly surprised that we're all just posting the pop bands. I don't like you anymore. Anyway, I'm gonna post some more Dream Theater now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muiNqF_XJJc These two songs are definitely two of my favorites. Pfft, Pink Floyd are far superior to silly ol' Rush. Moog the Kvlt 1,460 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 Silly ol' Rush? Really??? Are you kidding me??? Not everyone's a Rush fan, Rush are pretty good and I like their music, but I'm going with the Pink Floyd, and don't leave us just because we like Pink Floyd more than Rush. But anyways let's all leave that behind and have some Porcupine Tree http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug8CWIasWi8
Evilshy 5,093 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 Not much Symphony X. This must be rectified. Normally I don't like live versions, but there's just something about watching Rudess play a swivel keyboard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFZXfKrFWF0 Signature now 99% less edgy! uuunph 288 April 9, 2013 Share April 9, 2013 Progressive Death incoming! Mostly because I have a hugegantic man-crush on Joe Duplantier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvVAc4EWbFg God I love that riff at 4:30. They have pickslide riffs like that in so many of their songs, though I never get tired of it.

I think I'm going to get that album now. If the rest of the songs are even remotely as good as that one, it'll be a purchase well-made. I'm probably in the minority here, in that I've never really listened to Rush. For some reason, I've never thought of them as being Progressive; they've always seemed more Classic to me. Also, have some more Yes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFOOQ8e5J3A Original Fiction: http://mlpforums.com/topic/69008-hawkmoths-fiction/ לְעֵת תָּכִין מַטְבֵּחַ מִצָּר הַמְנַבֵּחַ. אָז אֶגְמוֹר בְּשִׁיר מִזְמוֹר חֲנֻכַּת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ. Yeah Rush are a progressive band, though they don't get too well mentioned anymore due to the fact of how critics always hated them, and 90% of the female population as well.

Eh, there are way more annoying fans than the Dream Theater ones, Petrucci isn't an untouchable god, his vocals aren't even the greatest sounding in the first place. And I think I know what specific YouTuber we both may be thinking about when mentioning annoying people who listen to Dream Theater.
Twiliscael 3,962 April 9, 2013 Share April 9, 2013 The Contortionist is a progressive deathcore band that I really like, so here you go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxAXMz4XQcU Now, for some more standard prog. Liquid Tension Experiment is a side project of Mike Portnoy, drummer of Dream Theater. Hey I don't mean to sound like an a-hole, but do Dream Theater fans annoy you sometimes? Not all of them, just the John Petrucci dickriders who act like he's an untouchable god. KIND OF LIKE YOU WITH CANNIBAL CORPSE? That's a joke, don't take it too seriously bud.
