Hasbro "Destroys" Fan Letter from 10 Year Old (Supposedly)

I dunno, a mostly ignored, but true rule on the internet is that anyone can pretend to be anyone. I am a 24 year old dude that can easily prettend to be a 10 year old, a woman, my elderly neighbor, Abraham Clinton, Cap America, Twilight Sparkle, etc, and there's no evidence if such claims of the 10yro are true, hell, there's even no evidence such a letter exist. I think we jumped to conclusions too quickly, only seeing a side of the coin which points more towards being false rather than true, and not the matter as a whole

Hoax or not, Hasbro could have a major PR crisis if they don't respond soon.

On further reflection, Hasbro not responding is the best thing they could have done.

If this is a hoax, any answer would have just added fuel to the fire.

If it's true, any answer would have called their practices into question.

If they answered in apology, people would be up in arms asking why they made this one exception.

If they answered without apologizing, people would be up in arms asking how they could be so cruel.

As it stands, this whole thing is going to burn itself out, which is good for Hasbro.

I can't say that I agree with anything they've done so far, but it makes very good business sense.

I think it's kind of amusing they're saying Trixie needs to be taken off the show and Derpy needs more screen time when Trixie's appeared a total of what? Two episodes out of 110 so far? Whereas Derpy's been in twelve episodes; fifty-six if you count her appearances as a background pony.

Sadly I am pretty convinced that this person hoaxed the whole thing. I am pretty sure his daughter never sent the letter, and he just did this to get some attention.

Hasbro more than likely gets these kinds of letters from bronies all the time "pretending" to be children in hopes that "the network being suckers for kids" will get their ideas more consideration. This is NOT uncommon, or exclusive to bronies. Many people have tried to offer suggestions under the guise of being children in hopes that it will grant them bonus consideration points. Legally speaking, Hasbro has to send these form letters. They are not nice, sure, but they need to make it VERY clear to the senders that they do not accept solicitations or read them. The reasoning is because if ANYTHING in the show resembles a letter sent in that person could turn around and sue them. Companies who run product lines for children generally have places for fan mail, this person sent it to their business office.

I personally sent Hasbro something once that would vaguely resemble what the alleged 10-year-old did.  Suffice it to say, I sent some of my Beast Wars Transformers from when I was a kid as an (admittedly misguided) attempt to break the ice and establish myself as a longtime fan of their work, and what they did in response was to send them (and the paper letters I sent with them) back to me, whole, intact, and with a letter saying they didn't look at my letters at all for legal reasons.  So I can tell you their standard response to receiving unsolicited work isn't to destroy the unsolicited work; it's to send it back, uninspected and intact.

Given my experience, I have to agree with you that this is most likely a hoax.

I mean, a child who wants more DERP  :muffins: , and less Trix? seems legit  >_>

The response letter contains a legit signature from Ms. Little. Whether the person sending the fan letter was legit is the only unverifiable element here.

The most plausible theory is that the person who sent the original letter was a brony who got this as a response so he made up the whole "little girl" story so he could turn his annoyance into attention.

Children for the most part, lack the ability or desire to critique their favourite TV show, when I was growing up, I just wanted new episodes to my favourite programs. It is a adult fan who wants changes or merchandise, go to the PAW Patrol Facebook page, and you will see things like "We want toys, my child wants toys, more toys now", it's pretty deplorable to read such conduct, adults can be more immature than children, we are suppose to be an example, to positive role model, to appreciate art and respect someone else's business transaction. This letter was definitely fake, written by an adult, a brony with a pathological complex, thinking they know better than Hasbro or DHX on how to write good material, given they mentioned Derpy by name, a fan character at best, beneath a child's general knowledge, next, get rid of Trixie, despite she has had few appearances in the TV show, children usually don't wish to get rid of characters. Moreover, this false letter is dishonest and dishonourable, it was an attempt to ruin Hasbro, and DHX with them, to get them to submit to the whims of one miffed adult, remember this is everyone's show, not your own personal heirloom to keep to yourself, how would you feel if you were a internet reviewer or artist, then got a rumour of destroying a fan letter, in hopes of hurting your YouTube channel or Patreon subscription.

I'm personally inclined to believe the 'misunderstanding' interpretation of events where this girl sent a letter to Hasbro's business office rather than the place for fan mail or whatever. Honestly, I can totally get behind any company not reading any ideas and destroying the letters because of the things the OP pointed out.

If it's not a hoax, it's likely it was destroyed by "the legal department" due to data protection laws, there are specifc rules regarding unsolicted mail sent to businesses from private individuals, particularly if those individuals included their personal details in the letter. They either have to be returned or destroyed

Not sure exactly how it works where they are, but it's kind of silly in the UK, telemarketers can pay for access to the electoral register and get the name, address and contact details of any household in the country, but if I send a letter to a business that I have no association with (ie I have never done any kind of business or trade with them) and it has my personal details on, they're supposed to shred it

Reddit is known for a lot of hoaxes starting there.

Only place worse is 4chan.

Also, yeah. It's pretty much certainly a hoax. Companies can't look at fan letters for legal reasons, so they would have just sent it back fully intact as proof of their lack of reading that so they couldn't be sued. Also, Derpy being mentioned pretty much sent it from "Pretty sure it's a hoax" to "It's a hoax. DEFINATELY a hoax." I mean, seriously. You could have been more subtle, and said something like... I dunno... Cadance, maybe? Or anything besides the one most popular pony in the show this side of the Mane 6?

Just some old guy trying to get his 15 minutes, and sadly he got it because of how gullible a lot of people in this fandom are.
