gaming What if Pokemon ended after Gen II?

I would feel rather conflicted. On one hand, I would feel heartbroken by how fast this series has ended, especially how most of my favourite features in this series come from newer generations. But on the other hand, I would feel rather glad that it ended on a high note and gets a proper and genuine conclusion, compared to going on for a long time.

Heck, coming from a diehard Pokémon fan, I wouldn't actually mind if it ended right now. This series has just the right amount of characters and games already and doesn't need even more of that, but to see it go on and on while releasing the same games makes it very... lifeless. I do hear that Pokémon is beginning to fail in its origin country, Japan, as there is new gaming series similar to it that is gaining more money than Pokémon.

I wouldn't have been a fan of the series, at least not in the same way. I got my start in Generation III.
I mean, I watched the anime but that would have ended after a while if they only had two generations, so it would have probably have just been another childhood show.

The anime has been a failure for a lo g time, IMO, due to a lack om character development.

The games though keep getting better and better.

My best memories of the series involved me playing a heckton of Pokemon Ruby while recovering from a medical procedure, so I'd have been sad :(. I'm sure I'd have found some other way to occupy the time, but I don't know if I'd have found something that I would remember fondly even now.

Advanced Battle also has the best Pokemon OP so it'd be a shame to lose that too, even if I hardly remember watching the show itself.

TLDR, Hoenn is amazing and I will fight battle you.

One of my absolute favorite memories in the series was playing Pokemon Ruby on my GBA, so that would have been a bummer for sure. Those games introduced a lot of very neat features. I honestly wouldn't have minded if it ended there though honestly, Gen 3 was the highest point for me in the series. After that, it just kinda blurs together.

Ruby was my first main series Pokemon game so I would never have gotten into the series then. Pokemon is my absolute most favorite series, so something I value and appreciate would be missing in my life. I'm not sure what would have filled that gap if Pokemon ended so soon. :(

I imagine that there would be fans of the games asking why they couldn't make anymore I suppose.  Maybe they'd try and do remakes down the line I suppose.  I certainly don't think the games would be particularly relevant if it only went for 2 generations.

At some point some nostalgic people would just make some cheap knockoff and get flagged by a C+D in the final days after Kotaku reports on it and gets it noticed by Nintendo for capitalizing on their idea that they've let stagnate for such a long time,

You might not know this (Heck, I just learned this today), but Pokemon was originally going to end after G/S/C. Well, what if it did? How would things be different?

Says who?

I know that Gamefreak almost went bankrupt after the first game, but I don't think they had any intentions of closing down. :o

From Pokemon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara:

Iwata:

Not in your wildest dreams did you think that you’d be making more and more games after Gold and Silver. (laughs)

Ishihara:

The reason that I licensed so many products and developed things like the trading cards was basically to ensure that Gold and Silver were successful. I felt that this was my primary role. So at that time, I worked with the assumption that after we put out Gold and Silver, my work as far as Pokémon was concerned would be done.

Iwata:

I see.

Ishihara:

So for me, Gold and Silver represented the finish line.

Iwata:

They were the finish line?

Ishihara:

I didn’t intend to make any more Pokémon titles. I even thought that once we entered the twenty-first century, it would be time for me to do something else entirely. (laughs)

Okay, but Ishihara isn't the creator of Pokémon. :/ I don't think it was ever really his decision whether or not to end the series. It was just his assumption.

Then there'd be no more games, the franchise would have slowed down and we all would've moved on a lot sooner. Also there'd be no Gardevoir hentai.

I would of had a lot of free time over the years since I spent a lot of time playing the games. I still do spend a lot of time playing them.

And Nintendo wouldn't be able to make a lot of money than they do right now, it's one of their biggest games ;)
