Do you guys know Colecovision, the competitor of the Atari 2600? The company is back with a new console using game cartridges instead of discs.

It's trying to catch some of the action of the recent "retro feeling" games that have been pumped out by indie devs. They will quickly find that the market does not work like it did back in the 1980s. It'll meet the same fate as the Ouya.

Trying to be retro isn't the same as being retro. Look at Sonic 4, sega couldn't even replicate the momentum mechanic of the original games. XD

Many proponents argue that game cartridges are faster than discs and harder to pirate it.

 

And Coleco mentioned that there won't be DLC, DRM or online multiplayer for the system.

Well, if this console would be able to play older cartridge Games, than i would consider buy it, because it would save me a lot of money.

 

But this is very unlikely, so im just gonna ignore it, like i do with all new Consoles.

Last I remember, cartridges were so much more difficult and expensive to develop for compared to discs, which often led to no support or poor ports. But that was during the N64 days.

 

Don't now how it's like for 3DS games, but I'd figure it's not as much of a pain in the ass

This...sounds like a huge gimmick. I love the idea of a retro based console, but that's all I like, the concept. It just seems like some nostalgia gimmick to make a whole console based on a medium that we have long abandoned for a reason. I will stick with my modern consoles, if I want to play retro games, I will play on the original consoles.

I'm one of the very few who still has a Jaguar and loves it dearly. Honestly, I think the Jaguar was one of the better looking systems from the 90s. As such I just about lost my head when I saw the design here. <3

 

Saying that...I just wonder what Coleco's overall plan is. :/

I like it, It's got a retro feeling. I'll buy probably buy this...IF the games don't cost $60, and the console isn't over $250. I feel that the games should cost $30 or less, and the console should cost under $300.

You know when thinking about it, this console is going to face a lot of problems. If it's going to be its own independent console, who is going to develop and publish games for it other than Coleco? The big developers like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, etc. aren't even going to bother making games for it and it's going to be too expensive for indie devs to make cartridges for it.
