There may not be an exact release date but KH3 is only one or two years away max. How do I know this? Because unlike many I haven't been waiting since KH2 for KH3. I've been playing the series in its entirety and been paying attention to the development.

 

As Envy said, they only barely announced KH3 officially two years ago. By accident, even. Before that point there was absolutely no reason to believe KH3 would be coming out soon.

 

On top of the fact that the story for the entire KH series is finally wrapping up after II.8 Prologue, as indicated by Dream Drop Distance being the last game that needed a console version and the story coming to a head in DDD with some loose ends being tied up in BBS 0.2, they've always said that they intended to finish Final Fantasy XV before they really get into KH3. Guess what's coming out this summer? Final Fantasy XV.

 

Everything points to Kingdom Hearts 3 coming out in the next two years, maybe three. Unlike FFXV they already have eight games of story and gameplay to build on top of. They aren't building it completely from scratch, nor are they changing directions for the game.

Unlikely I say because Square Enix pulled some of the team away to work on FFVII Remake which definitely will slow progress down. I would say LATER 2017 at best, mid 2018 as "realistic" and late 2018 as "More than likely". And of course not at all on this current gen is possible too.

It was officially announced as in development, but they have talked about it since 2005. However 2 years of development and we are no closer to a release than 2 years ago, which is unlike Zelda Wii U where the game was announced 2 years ago officially and we have a release time as well. KH3 is entering its third year of "official" development, and we have nothing still.

Pretty much, at the end of the day: KH3 is a low priority for Square Enix, and thus it's VERY likely that it will get left on the backburner for too long.

 

Consider this: if 2018 rolls around and the game is still not out, the PS4 will be over 5 years old at that point and Sony will begin talking about the PS5. A lot of developers will begin delaying their games because they want to wait for the new hardware. Basically what I'm saying is that if they wait too long they will just push the game back to the new system.

They are also working with a new engine that they are not experts on using yet, and they have half of their team gone now. So 2 years may be a bit of a stretch, but it's "possible". I however will remain under the thought of 3+ years to possibly next gen if it takes too long until Square Enix starts giving us definitives. Nintendo is giving us more concrete time periods of Zelda Wii U, and whenever Square Enix says they are going to have KH news, it's always just showing off more tech demos that they make sure to tell us are not confirmed to make it in the final game and no release period at all.

 

At this point I am convinced that they have not agreed on the direction they want the game to go, and because of that, I think the game is still fairly early in development stages to where a 2016 to even a 2018 release is unlikely.

Square Enix regularly works on several games at a time, that's nothing new. FFXV is the only title they specifically said they were going to finish before KH3 was even considered.

 

They already have the groundwork for most of the game anyway. Even if they had been talking about the game since 2005 they were still in the middle of the story at that point. Nomura's had the story planned out very far in advance and he was obviously nowhere near the point where it could be considered finish. Now we have everything set up for KH3 and it's actively in development.

 

Everything we've seen up to this point has been glimpses but it shows they've already worked on the game a lot in spite of what they've said. They even have a list of what worlds are going to show up.

Train Simulator for Xbox One

Ay, I've heard about that one! Isn't that the game where all of the DLC added up costs about 2k dollars? Or was that another version of the game? Anywho, I have heard from a few people that it's a good game. It's not up my ally (never liked trains) but apparently my friend who's really into trains/cars/etc is pretty pumped up for the XB1 version.

There is another game that has come to my mind that I need to add to this list: One Piece Burning Blood. While the title is a bit odd to me, I am very much looking forward to the game. I need to catch up with the series, but I have been wanting a proper One Piece fighting game and here we are! Doesn't release until June though. *-* Also, it is actually coming out on Xbox One in the west. The Japanese have a habit of not doing that.

Well, now that I have a Wii U on top of my PC, I have more to look forward to.

Zelda Wii U for sure, Starfox Zero looks great, World of Warcraft Legion I am not hyped for, but I am hopeful it will be good unlike Warlords of Draenor.

Rise of the Tomb Raider for PC, Roller Coaster Tycoon World, American Truck Simulator, Hitman.

@,I don't know about you, but I find that hard to believe. The game may have been scrapped and Valve probably wouldn't tell us.

I wouldn't assume so, as most games now are a lot more advanced than games that were being released for the PS3/Xbox 360. Seeing how those consoles are almost 3 years old now, I'm not really sure if companies would even be interested in working on a last-gen version.

 

However, the last PS2 game officially released was in 2014, 7 years after the PS3 came out, so who knows? It could happen.

 

(Probably not with Doom though, at least. Seeing how Fallout 4 wasn't for last-gen)

After that I am not really excited for any games this year, Shantae: Half-Genie hero looks awesome and I want to play it but I haven't completed any other Shantae games yet so I am not to bothered about it.
