How do you think? TVTropes says that adding Starlight permanently changes the mane cast, though judging by the season 6 teaser revealing Flurry Heart, this doesn't look to be the case. Moreover, Starlight isn't really Twilight's first student. (technically speaking, that honor goes to Sunset Shimmer.)

I don't see her as a permanent addition to the Mane 6, but more of an occasional character central to an episode here or there. But who knows?

I would imagine that she'll just get relegated to reformed villain status, she'll disappear into the background and maybe crop up here and there if the story requires it.

She may also set a precedent on how every single villain from now will end up being reformed even if it has to be rushed and anticlimatic.

It's too early to tell exactly how she will be used. It's more likely than not that she won't become a full main character (especially given that she isn't in any of the Season 6 teasers). It's more likely they'll go the same route they did with Discord by only having her appear in episodes in which it's necessary to acknowledge her.

 

After all, what "The Cutie Re-Mark" did to Starlight is only what "Keep Calm" did to Discord and EqG1 did to Sunset Shimmer, in raising the exact same questions.

No, not technically speaking, Twilight is a friend who Sunset can talk to advice, but that doesn't make her Twilight's student. Advice is different from how Twilight blatantly said she would teach Starlight.

I had the exact same feeling about Starlight as I had when Diamond Tiara was "supposedly" converted to being good. It just feels as if their bad slate just can't be cleaned, and starlight's attitude is just disgusting....it's kinda hard to say that she isn't a villain any more because whenever I even look at her she looks like an evil person... 

 

So I think now she will just end up just like Discord, getting easily manipulated back to her old self and then letting the mane 6 convert her back to good yet again.

If I was answering this just a month ago, I would say that she could potentially be part of the mane 6, making it the mane 7. That is what I thought it would be. Making her existence feel really justified. Now, because of the baby, I feel like she will just be like Discord, but far less interesting than Discord. On top of this, now I think that her insane abilities will not be justified any time soon. So...I am not sure if I will ever truly like Starlight at this rate.

She'll likely become a recurring character like Discord. Hopefully she'll get a more complete/satisfying redemption like he did.

 

Just as long as she doesn't turn the Mane 6 into the Mane 7.

I highly doubt that she will join the Mane 6, as it wouldn't make much sense. She will probably become a recurring character, and won't have much to do with the show, besides a few episodes. It seems best to do that, while still making her interesting. I'm curious as to how they will use her, if at all.

It'd be awkward trying to add her in so late in the show. Sunset Shimmer's more of a movie character, so it's more okay for her to be with the mane six there. But in episodes of the show? Adding in characters after having a set group for such a long time usually doesn't turn out to be so great.

Hopefully she'll be there for the season 6 premiere, but I wouldn't be suprised at all if she just became Discord 2, and only showed up here and there for specific friendship problems.

Honestly, I still think that she will eventually be a new member of the Mane Cast. Key word is eventually. They'll make a slower progression and finally push her in in the finale. I think this because of my favorite guessing game, patterns! I'm determined this will happen.

 

1. In finale, huge thing happens, everypony is pumped! Everyhuman hates it. (ex. Castle or Alicorn): Starlight is supposedly introduced into mane cast.

 

2. All of a sudden, it's retconned! An issue appears. (ex. Twilight hates her castle, being an alicorn isn't all it's cracked up to be): Starlight kind of pushed out / ignored. 

 

3. The season works on the issue. (ex. Castle ep, Alicorn duties): Starlight gets bonding time.

 

4. Next finale, the issue is finally solved! The huge thing leads to another huge thing. (Alicorn unlocks Castle, Castle Map unlocks Starlight it led them to her it totally counts): Starlight becomes official member! She gets something! (Throne, EoH (hopefully not), she holds the key to something else entirely, etc.)

I'm really hoping we don't see to much of her. I see her as being a bit like Discord, not super familiar with friendship and still having difficulties, but only cropping up occasionally. Maybe she could move back to the village and work on constructing new, real, friendships there.
