Are the feels still fresh?

I started re-watching the series from the beginning...again, and got to MMC. While I didn't care for that episode, or the alicornization of purplesmart, I'm gonna be honest...the feels during that scene with Sunbutt's ballad and Twi's ascension still pull at my heartstrings. I'm proud Twi has gotten that far, and that causes feels, but so does the fact that we'll never see unicorn PurpleSmart again. I liked her design without the wings and swan neck syndrome. Bittersweet feels.

 

Are the feels of MMC still fresh with you guys?

What causes the feels?

Like or hate that we've seen Twi longer as an alicorn than a unicorn?

I completely lose it and sob during the "Celestia's Ballad" scene. Every time. It might be a learned behavior by now but the waterworks never fail. "A True, True Friend" makes me tear up, but I have to brace myself big time whenever I hear that familiar "You've come such a long, long way..."

 

For me all this is triggered by that scene being the culmination of so much build up, it was so amazing to have that realization like "Wow! It's all been leading to this!" (Or so they make it seem) Very cathartic, well-executed, not ashamed to say it's my favorite episode for those reasons and more. It felt like my investment in the show was worth it for that kind of gratifying emotional payoff.

For most of the emotional moments I can keep it together compared to when I first saw them. Though, there are still a few instances that get to me: Magical Mystery Cure, Brotherhooves Social, and Crusaders of the Lost Mark (although technically these last two are still relatively fresh). There are some other moments, but these are the three biggest for me.

Twilight's ascension was pretty much inevitable, it was the logical conclusion for her character, well... perhaps not a conclusion as such, but an obvious landmark on her journey.  I do feel that it happened rather prematurely, but with the cartoon being threatened with cancellation after series three I imagine they wanted to make sure that there was some sense of closure to the story.

 

Ideally, her transformation would have occurred toward the end of the run, with maybe a series or two afterwards to show her adjusting to her new role.  It was a little disappointing that the writer's hands were forced, and that it happened when it did, but it was a good episode nonetheless, and the Celestia's ballad scene does still get to me, and is probably one of the three most emotionally charged moments in the cartoon for me.

I didn't really like that particular episode - not because I dislike the whole alicornhood-ascension business (although it really merited at least two episodes), but because I don't particularly like most of the music on the show (maybe one in five songs rate above mild dislike.) As such MMC never really did much for me.

 

The Cutie Mark Chronicles though... that episode never seems to get old, and I must have watched it close to a dozen times at this point. Twilight's cutie mark story in particular causes 'feels' - more so now than it used to. Wonderbolt Academy has a few moments that still induce 'feels' as well.

Yes. Magical Mystery Cure will always be one of my all time favorite episodes of the entire series.

The feels reign supreme for me. That moment was the beginning of her being my favorite pony because of how far she has come along in the show and that feeling still rings true for me. Her ascension is something that I love and still love to this day. Twily is best and cutest princess.

I get the feels from certain moments in the show without fail every time I watch them. So yes the feels are still fresh and as real as they have always been.

I haven't re-watched this particular episode in a while... But I watch the song clips every now and then and they still give me the feels. The way AJ tears up in the True, True Friend sequence gets me every time. Plus, when I first saw the episode, I was genuinely proud of Twi and really touched by the ascension scene. Celestia's Ballad is still a feels fuel to me.
