In Depth Tutorial covering how to draw Ponies...

 Hi Everyone!

Just writing this on a bit of a whim here~
But would anyone be interested in a complete in depth video tutorial
in real time of how to draw Ponies?

Im not a master at drawing ponies, or at drawing anything really... but
learning how to draw mlp was hard for me, i wont lie.
When i first started drawing ponies I just wished that there was a
tutorial somewhere where beginners and advanced artists could
learn how to draw ponies and not just in the normal side view...

I hate it when tutorials say things like "draw the leg bent like this" because
the person who is trying to learn how to draw won't realize there's actually
multiple bends in the leg due to the amount of bones in a leg. They won't
realize how long some of those sections should be compared to other sections.
They won't know how the leg actually should look. They just know it can bend
the way it did in the tutorial they saw.

Yes, you can break a pony down into simple shapes and lines like many how
to draw videos explain but the tutorial only shows you how to draw in that
particular pose or stance.

If you know how these things work and why these things work, you can draw
that thing in any pose with any angle and it'll look right.

My tutorial(s) will be a long video or a series of videos probably uploaded to
youtube where im drawing in real time and explaining what im doing at the
same time.

Id go over Basics first, like the skeleton and muscle structure using

simple shapes, trying to show how in different styles, suchas the shows and
my own, the skeleton should
still be important and shouldn't be ignored.

Then id move on to the actual "How to draw" part of the video, Id try to break
it down into parts. Faces, legs, wings, ect.. before moving onto
full body examples. Id use the mane six and some background characters
for reference so you can look at them and see what im talking about when i
talk about diversity. Ie Face shapes.

Later down the track, id show how to gesture draw, and show how to draw
different poses, perspectives,
expressions, how colour and backgrounds can
change the
"feel" of the drawing.

Let me know what y'all think~
I wont be offended if people think itll be boring, i will be doing alot of talking XD

I'd be interested, as I am trying to improve my pony-drawing skills. I've watched a few, and I usually pick up one or two things from each, so the more the merrier.

Updated my explanation, it cut out most of what i was trying to say,

Its good to know someone would be interested! Do you think 1 video or

multiple parts would work better?

It depends on how long it / they are going to be. Over an hour is a bit much for video content that I need to watch and pay close attention to (at least for me) but between fifteen and forty minutes is fine (anything less is often  bit short, although it varies.) If you can break it down into sections of appropriate length which combine both theory and case studies / examples then that would probably work best. I would say that playing with the real-time aspect of it a little might be a good idea - don't be afraid to edit in clips that serve a purpose (such as a clip from later in the process to show how something done earlier affects the final product) or some time acceleration in order to make the video more presentable (sadly, good content is often ignored if it isn't well produced.)

They won't   realize how long some of those sections should be compared to other sections.  They won't know how the leg actually should look. They just know it can bend  the way it did in the tutorial they saw.

This is the transition I'm trying to make at the moment, so this would be especially useful for me.

Participating in this RP can be agonizing sometimes.

I would love this to be honest, I really struggle drawing ponies besides basically copying a tutorial due to most of them lacking the fundamentals and rather just teaching how to draw the specific image they are drawing. So yes I would adore this <3

Hey, @Mylilpegasister ! Because your thread relates to tutorials and assistance with the arts, I have moved your thread to Photo Finish's Magic's (Resources), where it will include topics that relate more to yours such as drawing/painting/sketching help, artist advice, art tool information, etc.

Thank you, I wasn't sure where it went :D

I have some time free tomorrow afternoon so I should be able to make an introduction to pony drawing then :)

  • 8 months later...

So after a tiring and very full on 7 months,  im back from my hiatus!  ((yay!))
Sorry for being gone so long but glady, my personal and family matters have gotten
to a much happier place, so much that ive made a conscious effort to get back into
my artwork and actually start my MLP themed Graphic novel, Elias. That ive been
planning for over a year. My in depth tutorial for how to draw My little pony characters
and OCs and just get back to drawing in general.

Thank you to everyone who --Very patiently i might add, waited for my long return.
You guys are the best :D

As to the tutorial, Ive gotten a YouTube channel under the username Voseerie.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4SfnJ7fiNbP--aDqj_p2Ow
(( ATM im only updating every week though ))
The tutorial will be uploaded there.
When i can gather enough points on DA ill finally change my username to match,
but until then "Mylilpegasister" is what ill stay to avoid confusion.
