gaming Worst Video Game Protagonists

Sometimes, protagonists in video games can be wonderful characters that we enjoy playing as and we root for them all the way. However, there are other times when a game just doesn't have a protagonist that is even remotely likable for one reason or another. These are characters that may not be bad to play as, but we still don't like them. 

 

Now for the question: In your opinion, who are the worst video game protagonists ever created? 

 

For me, I can think of two: Kratos from God of War and Jake Conway from the infamous Ride to Hell Retribution. Kratos is bad mostly because, well he just seems a villain more than anything else. He goes through, killing off all sorts of different beings, all because he is angry for stuff that he himself caused. At least that is what I remember, I haven't played all of the games.

 

Jake COnway is an easy one. He is a horrible character that is supposed to be all super tough, cool, and just a stud. The developers really thought they were making the coolest guy ever. When in fact he is absolutely atrocious, insulting to women and actually far more of a bad guy in the game than what the story tries to tell.

 

 Jake Conway everybody. Just look at that amazing man of awfulness.

Crash Bandicoot. Don't get me wrong, the games are fun but...something about the character overall is horrid.

I love God Of War, but I always hated Kratos. He's a murderous psychopath who takes it out on everyone and murders everyone for his own mistakes. Aiden Pierce from Watch Dogs is pretty similar too. Bad things happen to him, and he takes out his problems on innocent people, ruining their lives, and committing some serious crimes, on top of being particularly dull and boring, not to mention the game tries to justify his actions

Kratos is more mixed for me, whereas Jake is every bit as scummy as you say.

 

Additionally, New!Dante from Devil May Cry 2013 sucks as well.

And I mean that in the best way possible. The game is amazing and I did like playing as him, but in the end I absolutely hate him as a person lol

While technically being as capable as Solid Snake in MGS 2, he is such a overly dramatic whiny bitch.

 

 

When he was a playable character again in MGR, he was very worth playing as again, but he is still pretty whiny.

For me, Aiden Pearce is a very bad protaganist. He's incredibly bland, and is a pretty terrible person, as well.

Another one, and I might get flak for this, but I never liked Niko in GTA IV. He's also very bland and uninteresting, and to me he doesn't fit in to the whole style of GTA, which is supposed to be satire, and is also a reason why I didn't care for GTA IV. He comes off as a bit whiny to me in some points, and also is kind of short with his cousin, who is arguably more interesting.

Hmm...Jake Conway takes the cake, for sure. Though I guess we can't blame him, he's a crap character in a crap game.

 

Other than him, I would've said Lester from Lester the Unlikely. He's probably the biggest scaredycat I've ever seen in a game. He runs away from idle turtles and takes falling damage if he jumps down a ledge. Granted, I've heard he gets braver as the game goes on, but ah well.

-Well, I'll get tons of flak for this, but I'm not fond of the original Dante. Well, at least from DMC4 which is the only DMC I've played. He's the generic cool guy who gets the most crazy and unthinkable things done and ..... nothing else. Dunno if the other DMCs he shows more facets, but I got a sour taste with him in DMC4

-Kratos: Man, hard to believe one of the most popular characters years ago became one of the least liked . I can't add anything that haven't said before

Sora from Kingdom Hearts because he's just bland, he's your average good guy and there really isn't anything special about him. He's a cliche and he's so boring that it really wouldn't make a difference if you were playing as a part of the wall instead. They'd have the same personalities.

Spelunker from Spelunker. He's so fragile, he dies from falls greater than his own height and pits that literally anyone else could just climb out of. How'd he even manage to get out of bed without dying?!?

The Avatar from Ultima 9: Ascension. For (most of) the games prior, the avatar was largely a blank slate to allow for roleplaying, but here he's portrayed as a total loser despite supposedly being the paragon of truth, love and courage. He's also a total idiot, becuase the game designers couldn't have him be a knowledgable hero lest it alienate new plays.

The only reasons to like Patroklos from the SoulCalibur series are: (1) his design, and (2) him having Yuri Lowenthal's voice.

 

But other than those, he's just far too unlikable, incompetent, Gary-Stuish, etc.

I watched a video about hated VG characters, and he made close to the top of the list. I didn't find him too irritating in Dissidia, but I read his most annoying traits were toned down there

Caim from Drakengard is my overall hated cannon,  hes just so bland and thankfully the dragon's personality makes up for a lot in the game over all.
