I don't know how many bronies come to appreciate America's national pastime, but it's been hurting me this season since my hometown team is having one of its worst seasons so far.

Either way, here's a place to talk about Major League Baseball.

Oh don't worry, my hometown Colorado Rockies have been mediocre for years. Their bullpen ranges from acceptable to an absolute mess and sometimes I wish they'd just scrap it completely. It's a shame, because they have Gold Glovers and some of the best offense in the league. Even the starting pitching (which used to be terrible) has picked it up, but the Rockies still can't hit quite hit .500 because of how often the bullpen fails late in games. At least they've been 7-3 in their last 10 games so things might be looking up.

Ugh, sorry for ranting a little bit there. Great idea for a thread! :D

I adore MLB, and some of my fondest memories growing up were watching Mike Schmidt do his thing. Yep, I'm a Phillies guy. Only 14 games back. ._.

Wow. A lot of national leaguers here so far.

Yeah, I kinda noticed that. I got a good friend who's an Orioles fan, and he was pretty disappointed when he heard the Rockies were beating them.

Also, I've been wondering something about the Rockies. What's keeping Larry Walker out of the Hall of Fame?

The Phillies aren't one of those teams I know a lot about, but I did support them in the 2008 World Series they won against Tampa Bay. Shame they lost in 2009 though.

Supposedly, Larry Walker isn't considered a very viable candidate because of all the injuries during his career. Because of that, his numbers aren't as impressive of some of the other players in the Hall of Fame. Also, the thinner air in Denver tends to increase offense, so Walker's stats aren't taken as seriously. I do hope he makes it one day, but unfortunately it might be a few more years...

I just hope my Pirates start getting hot and make the postseason again. We're at least above .500.

I have heard of the conspiracy about the thinner air in Colorado, but was he also able to hit that many home runs on the road? If so, he should be in.

Not too big of a baseball guy but I'll root for the Angels since they're my home team.

Man do they suck this year.

Angels? I don't mind the Angels. While I was in the LA metroplex this summer I actually went to an Angels game and got a Mike Trout shirt. The good news is they won that game, the bad news is it was against my hometown Twins.

Also, I heard a cat got loose on the field at Angel Stadium earlier this season. Was it a black cat?

I suppose I should retract some of what I said about the Rockies yesterday, because they are now one game below .500. Does that mean they'll beat the Mets tonight? No. But things might be looking up a bit.

Across his whole career, he hit 215 home runs and 168 on the road. However, this was with three different teams so I can't say how many he hit at home vs away only while he was with Colorado.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, we're coming down to the last few months of the season. I dunno who I'm going to root for in the playoffs since the Twins haven't got a chance at it.

Now three of the Rockies' best players are out injured: Carlos Gonzalez, Trevor Story, and Mark Reynolds. Things aren't looking up too much. At least CarGo is probably going to be back soon, but the other two injuries are gonna hurt for most if not all of the rest of the season.

You know something? I read that Gonzalez was sent to pinch hit last night, and it seemed to have worked out in the Rockies favor.

OOOOH!  SPORTS!

Y'know, where the sports teams go out on the sports field, grab the sports gimme-that-thing, and then they sports?  Yeah - they sports so well, other folks go ballistic yelling sports phrases!

The two sports teams sports the sports, then they take a break, then they sports the sports some more until, by sheer skill of sports, the sports them that sports that hardest WINS!  They out-sported the other sports team!

And that's another thing; I LOVE my sports team!  They can outsports YOUR sports team anytime at all!  They're so sportsy, they eat, drink and *CENSORED* sports!  Yeah - my sports team is sportier than YOUR sports team, so NYYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

But it's not just about the sports of the sports teams, no... it's about the heart of the sports.  That place where, deep down inside, you sports hard and fast, you sports with all of your might, and with a little luck and a lot of practice, you can outsports the sports who don't sports so sports sports sports sports sports... sports-tastic!

(Okay, yeah - a bit trolly, but I couldn't help it; my sincerest apologies.  For what it's worth, I don't do sports... but being an Atlanta native, I do cheer on the Braves... when I pass a game on TV... or see a commercial for one... or hear that one's blocking up traffic in Downtown again.)

Oh that's right, he hit a nice pinch hit double, but he's still being kept out of the starting lineup for time being.

Ranger's fan. Team looks amazing this year, legit contender.

inb4 another WS loss.

Rangers, eh?

I find the Rangers quite interesting because they have the same origin as the Twins.

I myself attended a Twins game at Target Field last month when they hosted the Rangers, and the Twins lost in a close game.

Were steroids really such a big deal?

Yes. Some players like Barry Bonds, Alex Fraudriguez, and Jose Canseco got in really big trouble for it. Not just with Major League Baseball, but with the law as well. As such, players who took Steroids should NOT be elected into the Hall of Fame.

What makes using Steroids even more stupid is that Steroids are a kind of fat, and muscle weighs more than fat.

What about the players in the Hall who played on greenies, like Hank Aaron?

I'm not sure what you mean by playing on greenies, but I've always been under the impression that Hank Aaron was a player of integrity, unlike Barry Bonds.

That isn't really as controversial as Steroids. It IS banned now, but back then it wasn't really a big deal.

Yeah it's banned now because it is a controlled substance in the U.S. anyways, but it's not exactly a performance-enhancing drug in the same way as anabolic steroids. It's just a stimulant.

The point was that baseball players have been taking amphetamines LONG before they've been taking steroids.

Also, people seem to be under the impression that if you give steroids to an average Joe on the streets, he'll turn into an athletic freak. That's not how steroids work.
