Watching Dungeons & Discords I kept being reminded of various memes from Spongegebob

 

Opposite Dimension - same idea as opposite day

 

Squid Wizard (Squizzard) - sounds alot like Squidward, maybe that's the abbreviation they would have used if not for copyright

 

Imagination - The most blatant one, even with both Spike and Spongebob saying imagination in an emphatic tone with hand gestures. The rest are probably coincidence but wouldn't be surprised if this is a legit Spongebob reference

 

Discord's apology - Like Squidward in the April Fools episode, Discord is basically choking on his words before he's able to get out the word sorry.

 

Probably a couple of coincidences here but it's strange how many times jokes from this episode can be compared to Spongebob jokes. Almost makes me think Merriwether Williams was involved in this episode.

Outside of the obligatory imagination meme that is sure to pop up in this thread, I don't really see that much of a connection.

If anything, the "imagination" bit is probably a legit SpongeBob reference.

 

I've seen other potential references to SpongeBob, like the story of the Headless Horse in Sleepless In Ponyville (which reminds me a lot of the SpongeBob episode Graveyard Shift), and Do Princesses Dream Of Magic Sheep? (which reminds me of the SpongeBob episode Sleepy Time), but this one came across as the most blunt.

Imagination is the immediate reference that I noticed. That has to be something at least. XD Everything else sounds possible, but I doubt them. The imagination reference is all I needed.

Your assumptions is nothing more than a Casual Fallacy or a false cause fallacy. 

 

Opposite day is not from spongebob. Spongbob did not invent Opposite day or the idea of acting in such a way. 

 

The squid thing is just a conincidence made out of your imagination and the human ability to recognize patterns in nature as a survival mechanism that has evolved over millions and billions of years. You are seeing likeness and patterns that are not there.

 

As far as the imagination hand gesture thing you might be right about that one. 

 

Discords apology is not anything new. The hard to apologize thing is not from spongebob, it is actually something a lot of people have trouble in real life when confronted with having to apologize out of embarrassment.

 

Some coincidences but the hand gesture thing might had come from spongebob. Was there a rainbow? I don't remember. Anyway, yeah. Pretty sure the spongebob links you noticed was just your
