gaming The absolute WORST gaming consoles!

The Virtual Boy stands out to me as being a pretty bad system. Only 6 games released for it, the awful red screen, it made people sick playing it. Yet years later Nintendo brought back 3D in the form of the gameboy which once again made people sick to the point that Nintendo released a 2D gameboy that plays the 3D games.

And of course, we can't ignore the Wii U.

Meh. It's still a better console than the Wii.

Unpopular opinion ahead:

Wii Sports is the only reason anyone got a Wii imo.

Well, I got a Wii mainly because of Super Smash Bros. Brawl IIRC. That was before Brawl came out and I found out I didn't like it.

In terms of what it attempted to do and the games then yes, but in terms of the marketing then no.

What does marketing have to do with the quality of a console?

It's like when I say I was disappointed with the Wii, and people come in and try to argue with me about how the Wii sold a whole bunch and that apparently makes it good. >.>

The Wii had its problems, but to even say it's bad console is hyperbole of the worst kind

Nintendo certainly gave it their all in regards to both core(Metroid Prime Trilogy, Sin and Punishment, SMG) and casual titles(Wii Sports), and when third parties actually gave a shit gave us some great gems like No More Heroes, Zak and Wiki, Klonoa, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, Madworld, and etc. And it's Virtual Console beats the shit out of the Wii U's laughably poor VC

Besides it gave us Xenoblade, so I just can't hate the thing

I agree that sales to determine quality is really dumb, and if you don't like the console, that's fine, but to say the Wii's a bad console at all is complete hyperbole and, dare I say, dishonest

What I mean by the marketing is that Nintendo named the Wii U that to continue with the brand name. Unfortunately, most people--and they still do--thought it was an accessory to the Wii instead of a new console. They also haven't had many commercials for the system, and don't even get me started with the 3rd Party problem.

Am I satisfied with my Wii U? Of course as it's gotten so much use since I got it on the launch day. The Game Pad, despite not being used as much as it could, is actually quite the little marvel. I always have it plugged in as I use my Wii U for hours on end.

The worst console is the Wireless Air 60. It had a camera on the console and you played the games by moving your body in various ways. There was a menu of games and you had to select everything by moving your hand to what you want to pick and then wait for a moment. There were a bunch of unplayable games and games that look different but play the same, and the camera controls were awful.

Virtualboy might have been physically worse, but Nintendo took the blow and buried that sucker in a very deep grave.

My money would be on the Gizmondo.. that sucker did not just make gamers everywhere rock themselves to sleep at night hugging their knees, it managed to kill a tiger! That is real bad juju if you ask me.

the original Wii is the worst that ive ever played with. it started Nintendo's motion control downfall =/ I freaking love all their previous consoles and I actually quite enjoy the WII U, but very disappointed by the lack of games on it =c

the wii has terribad graphics and was only ever built for the motion controls which was a good gimmick at the start, but it lasted too long and its still horrible to  play with wiimotes. By that time Id moved to to my 360.

the poor WiiU is already becoming obsolete with their new console just around the corner.

The only game on the Wii that I played where motion controls was perfect was the Metroid Prime trilogy. Even though the games still had the lock-on, my aim was infinitely better than if I played it on the Gamecube.

I'm surprised no one has said the LJN Video Art. I actually have tried one of these, and yes, it really is that bad.  It was meant to be educational, but they didn't even try to put any effort into it. They're known as "Laughing Jokin' Numbnuts" for a good reason.

I'll let James Rolfe (as the Angry Video Game Nerd) go more into detail:

And the squeaking on the controller must've been across the majority of units sold since the one I tried also squeaked, but not quite as bad though.

Alright gringos, y`all wanna see bad consoles? Well then look no further than the beloved homeland itself, BRAZIL...Zil...zil!

consoles_f_037.jpg

This handsome boy here is the Zeebo, Brazil`s one and only console EVER, made by the currently totally bankrupt TecToy.

So you must be asking "What the *yay* is this?"

Well this little dude here was the first console to not use any physical media AT ALL, no cartridges, no discs, no weird GameCube discs, nothing. All digital, sounds good on paper, right?

Well much like flying cars, just because it sounds good on paper doesn`t mean it`s actually any good on practice: the Zeebo was way overpriced, had a limited library, had pretty bad graphics for the year it was released(2009) and overall wasn`t that good of a console at all, case and point:

Ever since then Brazil hasn`t made one attempt at creating a home console and - since for reasons beyond my comprehension, videogames are considered a form of gambling here - it probably never will.

Brazil: our best is still below everybody else`s average.

The worst gaming console I can think of is the Phillips CDi.

That's why people make jokes and memes out of CDi games, and make almost everything look like it can be taken out of context.

  • 1 month later...

This one's easy to guess for worst consoles: The Atari Jaguar, the 3DO, the Game.com and the n-Gage. I think all four have been mentioned before but they have arguably the most drawbacks out of all of the consoles released.

Another system that comes to mind is the Game.com

While I do agree that thing was a colossal failure, I actually attribute that to the fact that the Game.Com was far too ambitious for its time. It actually had a lot of really cool ideas. A touch screen, some features of a PDA and even internet access, even if it was insanely limited. I personally think the system was pretty ahead of its time but as a result, they didn't know what to do with it and it just faded away into nothingness. I do admire what they tried to do though. I feel like if it wasn't Tiger that made it and instead was a more competent company, it could have been huge for the industry.
