So, do you think EQG is on its way out?

Just comparing the push that the series has to what it had in the past, its MASSIVELY less than what hasbro was devoting to it (and the faith they had in it) For RR and FG.
They stopped doing shorts, there's no more theatrical releases, Toys have been MASSIVELY throttled back (look at all the fancy stuff they had for Friendship games for example, like the nerf rebelle bow and arrow and the motorcycles), and they're moving from Movie form to 3 Episode "specials".

 

 

Do you think that the Equestria girls series is losing momentum and set to end soon, or do you think hasbro might reverse their slowing of push for the series?

I think so. Same thing happened with G3 when they came out with "3 specials."  Each movie generates less interest than the last one, according to Google Trends.

 

But as long as pony doesn't end, I'm happy.

I believe so. It always annoyed me that EQG got more and better merchandise than the main series, but I guess dolls are always really popular with their main audience.

I was surprised how much I actually liked the films when I finally succumbed and watched the first ones last year (still have to watch the new one when I get internet in my apartment again) because I always assumed they were only made to make more merch money.

I'm interested to see how the three specials work, and also hoping more money will go in to FIM merch in the lead up to the new movie.

I don't think so since Equestria Girls has a big fan base just like Friendship is Magic and there has been increases in the merchandise. I'd say there's nothing to worry about. Heck, maybe soon enough there could even be an Equestria Girls TV series.

 

I think it's because the My Little Pony movie is heading this way.

I guess so, I think the series should just focus on the main series, I think they only made it just to make money and sell merchandise and also make artwork of them as well.

Sometime it's better to leave when you're on the top than last for years and years and become a bad anf terrible show. That's (not really) always the case because producer want MONEY !

I don't know; wasn't really interested in Equestria Girls until the Friendship Games (because of Sci-Twi), but I've always thought that the EqG fanbase would be of a similar size to the FiM fanbase, considering the fact that EqG is a spinoff of the aforementioned series. I decided to use Google Trends like ElementalFluttershee did, though and, in comparison to interest in MLP itself, no one seems to be that into the whole EqG thing. Still don't feel like I got a clear answer, though. Maybe I should look at a sales chart from Hasbro themselves and compare it to FiM.

 

For me, personally, I would be kinda upset for a little while if ever EqG gets cancelled too early  .  At least I know pony will still be around for a long time, what with the 2017 movie and season 7 and all.

Compared to the first EQG movie, the second and third ones barely register on the graph:

 

 

 

Even more evident when comparing "My Little Pony" as a brand. I assume most people looking for the show will search for "My Little Pony" rather than "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic."

Depends on how you look at it. As far as toy sales go, things started tanking with FG, but then the Minis gave it another surge of life, not to mention they just announced the Dazzlings Minis, which I'm sure is gonna sell like hotcakes. Also, changing it from one movie to 3 specials could also mean the possibility of testing the waters for a TV series, which a lot of people seem to want

I don't think this show is anywhere close to reaching a potential "downhill" point yet. I feel like FIM easily can go at least a few more seasons. Going on for a long time isn't always a bad thing, and I feel like ending it soon would be a real waste.

 

 Anyway, I don't think EQG Is on it's way out yet either. I wouldn't be at all surprised if these specials were a test for an EQG show.

Season 3 seemed like a downward shift in the show, yet Season 4 turned out to be the high point. I see no logical reasoning for assuming the show is on a downward shift and should end soon. If the show is still enjoyable and entertaining, no logical reason to cancel it. Even more so considering all the potential it has. Just look no further than the Season 4 and 5 finale to see how much potential the show has. 

 

A new generation will not be a welcome idea, frankly, because the fanbase is already attached to the Mane 6 (7?). I highly doubt that Hasbro would be able to generate a brand new set of characters with the same amount of depth, uniqueness, and attractiveness that the Mane 6 has.

 

Furthermore, I find it hard to believe that the fandom would be able to accept a brand new set of characters with the same love and devotion that they have to the Mane 6. There will always be the feeling of "its just not like the old days [of MLP:FiM]."

To be honest, the change to 3 specials could mean one of three things, in my opinion.

 

1. As you say, that EQG is on its way out.

2. Given that they will be 22 minutes long, they could be testing the waters for a potential full on EQG TV series.

3. Nothing at all, just a format change that may or may not be permanent.

I wouldn't count out Equestria Girls just yet despite sales indicating a problem. The fandom has been growing more and more accepting of it in the last couple of years, and the Minis series has been quite the surprising success from what I've been hearing. If Hasbro truly believed that it would need to be pulled, then they wouldn't have ordered three new specials to be created nor would we have had the likes of Friendship Games and Legend of Everfree. I think Hasbro are aware of the problem and I attribute it to the fact that Equestria Girls only gets one thing every year compared to the show that gets an entire season.

I'm not so sure it's because of a decline of EG, as I understand the toys are selling quite well . I DO think it's because the 100% pony movie is coming the same year, and fear it'll overshadow the fifth EG

Remember that we're getting three Equestria Girls specials next year as opposed to a movie. If anything, I think they are going to be compared with the season seven episodes rather than the 2017 movie. The movie will be compared with every other release that's coming out at around the same time.
