GeekySonic 1,150 November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 I remember that the show helped me a lot when I first started watching. Now, it's just a show I watch. A good show, but still just a show. I admit, it's been therapeutic to draw the characters, lately, because my life is reaching new lows. I wouldn't have ever gotten back into drawing without it, so plus for me. 3 Check out my voice-acting demo reels on Casting Call Club, if you'd like. greenflare 154 November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 (edited) While it may not be as impacting as other influences were (like Pokemon) I think it has done something for me. Rainbow Dash is without a doubt one of my favorite characters from any series and I relate to her so much that just seeing her makes the show extra nice. She's really something. There's something really alive and comforting about the world of Equestria anyway, and as GeekySonic has already said, drawing them is therapeutic. I have so much sentiment regarding this show, I've loved it since I was 11. While it hasn't been the biggest impacts in my life, it's got to be up there as one of the biggest. Kaneki 1,073 November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 I would say somewhat. Before, I was sort of a troublemaker who was obsessed with a single community, and now I'm able to go off into different things and I think somehow MLP is connected, not sure how, but I know it is.
BastementSparkle 20,326 November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 Yeah, definitely. MLP has helped me through some dark times, helped make me some friends I definitely wouldn't have otherwise, and I also feel like it's actually helped my critical thinking skills. I've thought a lot about little details in the show or character motivations, and I've enjoyed that kind of thing way more here than I ever did in school. It's helped inspire me to do the same with other shows as well. An non brony here. That's no place for you here? Non-bronies are entirely welcome, there's no rule stating that you have to be a brony to be here, as far as I'm aware. Certainly, most people on this site are bronies and have an interest in the show, but they're more than welcome as long as they aren't hostile. 4 Twilight is best pony. Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?
Luminance 2,186 November 17, 2016 Share November 17, 2016 It made me more open-minded if you meant by horizons. I always thought to myself that I would never watch a "girly" show because of what societal standards had engrained into my brain until I watched MLP:FiM. In that moment, those internal walls that society had programmed inside of me were torn away. I'm more accepting and willing in my personal and external outlook because it feels like I would be missing out if I never try to expand into new horizons.
ChB 18,557 November 18, 2016 Share November 18, 2016 (edited) Has mlp improved your horizon and fantasy? Oh yes, definitely. It has made me more open-minded about different shows, not just ones about ponies, but also new generation cartoons in general, and even old classics. Edited November 18, 2016 by ChB 3 Thanks to @Sparklefan1234 for this awesome sig!
N.W. 3,619 November 18, 2016 Share November 18, 2016 Directly? Indeed it has some bit. Not just with cartoon horses but just sort of brought out the more creative side of me. Though I might add that being exposed to some community members/friends has done a great deal in maturing over these past years. Some have come and gone, but I will remember them.

Question is, have you revealed this revelation to your friends or family? It's one thing to change your own mindset in solitude, but to do so in the presence of others a lot harder. And I don't mean virtually. Something I understand. There are a number of things I like that I have yet to tell others because I doubt they'd understand, and I'm not confident enough to not care about their opinion. I can't say that it has, but only because I have a lot of years of watching sci-fi/fantasy shows, including various "kid" shows. They serve as an escape from a very mundane reality. I have been an "open" member of the community for as long as I considered myself part of it. Though I have only mentioned my maturing of such to a select few friends rather than family. Mostly those who have influenced me. I've never been too vocal about my mindset, and it has changed quite a bit and a number of times. Overall I would say that my words and actions have reflected my mindset, if slowly over time.
They call me Loyalty 1,948 November 18, 2016 Share November 18, 2016 Look, there's no division between reality and magic before my eyes. And yes, I allow mlp to nourish those aspects of emotional recognition, regarding my self awareness.Nontheless, I don't overdo it. So my entity remains myself.
cmarston1 5,959 November 18, 2016 Share November 18, 2016 Not necessarily, as I have always been interested in cartoons, and fantasy, and fantasy based cartoons.
Techno Universal 2,575 November 18, 2016 Share November 18, 2016 Well MLP was actually the foundation of my way of thinking and it even set my life mission. So now because of the show my thinking system works like a computer from the future and I see the individual personality elements as modifiable logic files. But still I know how to save the world and that is to create the ponies as robots and they will fix society forever. Concerned Bystander 2,902 November 18, 2016 Share November 18, 2016 I couldn't say that MLP expanded my horizons into fantasy, rather I found that I liked MLP due to already having a very long term interest in fantasy fiction. My head was full of Unicorns and Pegasi long before these ones we all love ever graced the screen.

Justin_Case001 4,891 November 19, 2016 Share November 19, 2016 But now my head is full of it and i like it. Me too, though I had ponies and rainbows and princesses on the brain for awhile before FIM, but I was always afraid to embrace these things due to societal poisoning. Yeah, definitely. Same here! It has helped me with depression, and I think I completely get what you mean about critical thinking. I wrote an in depth essay about cutie marks following The Fault in Our Cutie Marks that I feel would have been A+ work in a college lit class. It seems such a silly thing to get so technical and in-depth about, but I really felt like it had massive implications about real life, and taught so many important and relatable lessons for the young and old alike about how we find our place in this world, and the desire for validation from others vs listening to who you are inside. I never got that complex and interested in stuff like that in other shows. It made me more open-minded if you meant by horizons. Oh yes, myself as well. Big time. Every word of this applies to me, too. In fact, the show (and the community) played a very big role in me becoming willing to embrace some important and repressed aspects of true self. I had always wanted to wear clothing that society deems unacceptable for men. I am, by anyone's normal definition, a crossdresser, though I advocate there's no such thing. I wasn't living for me. I was living full of regrets because I was being what society wanted me to be. I wear what makes me happy now, and I'm proud to do so. I probably wouldn't have done that if not for the this show. Some may find it silly to be that inspired by cartoon ponies, but something about their vibrant, beautiful personalities struck such a chord with me. It's like....within them I saw this beauty and confidence and a love of life that we should all share. FIM has also helped shaped my digital art career, for which I'm very thankful.
