One of the better shows that ever aired on Nickelodeon, hands down.

My favorite, and probably one of the most impactful episodes to discuss real issues that effect kids, is Helga on the Couch. By this episode, fans already had some information to connect all the dots about Helga's family into some harsher real world territory ... and this episode took that and wrapped all of our assumptions with a tattered and weather worn bow.

It took a character who was at times grating, and made her fully realized. She became more than sympathetic, she became someone you knew.

The allure of the show grew on me when I saw what they were doing with characters. As they introduced the boarders, Arnold's family, his neighborhood, and his classmates, you were presented with unflattering traits.

Slowly, the show peeled back the layers of each of the supporting cast and ... you saw why they had the flaws they did. This is how you showcase one of my favorite principles of life -- imagine others complexly.

I don't recall the name of the episode, but the old man who had pigeons on the roof and hated people was a somber episode dealing with feeling detached and alone, unable to understand others and be understood by them.

Indeed. I loved the episodes where Arnold helped and learned to understand people who feel like outcasts, such as Agatha Caulfield from Crabby Author and Stoop Kid from Stoop Kid. I doubt that I would have had the patience and persistence that Arnold had, especially at his age. He is such an admirable character in so many ways.

@ChB

 I may be getting this totally wrong but,  in the episode "Deconstructing Arnold"

Arnold is apparently SO admirable & good hearted that the other kids want him to stop giving advice

& Helga becomes the  Lucy Van Pelt of P.S.118.

This show was amazing. In elementary school I would come home, plop down and open netflix, and watch a Hey Arnold! episode every day. A few of them even made me cry, if you'd believe that. Every single character is thought out and played so realistically, it's like you made the script yourself. So much nostalgia.

You have laid your eyes upon my post. Be afraid. Please. With a cherry on top? I'm dying here...

Oh and here's my OC, I guess: Lance

I loved Hey Arnold! as a kid and enjoy it to this day. Gosh, that show was one of the most brave children's cartoons ever made. It wasn't so afraid to touch on stuff like mental illness and poverty. Arnold isn't your "typical" kid, because his parents have been gone for most of his life, leaving him in his grandparents' custody. Helga's mother is strongly implied to be struggling with alcoholism! When was the last time you saw a kids show that acknowledged a topic like addiction?!? I guess everything felt so much more "human" than most other kids shows. Beautiful characters, beautiful morals, beautiful themes... Hey Arnold! had it all. It's one of those shows that I especially enjoy looking back on as a young adult, because now I truly "get" its message. I see it through a new lense that really makes it even more heartwarming.

In my childhood, I mainly used television as an escape, which made it difficult to like Hey Arnold, It just felt too real at times.  It was still pretty good though. My favourite moment was when that guy sang "Simple Things" Probly' the first country song I've ever heard.

Steely Phil hands down

Heck the best scene in the show was of him kicking the crap out of Hitler in the Veterans Day episode(which is probably my favorite episode)

Steely Phil was the best

@Whompy Whomperson

I kinda meant besides Steely Phil & Pookie but, that's ok.

My favorite characters are Arnold, Grandpa Phil, Helga Pataki & Arnold's cousin Arnie (Who reminds me a lot of Maud Pie from MLP:FiM.)

His backstory with his daughter is a bit of a tear-jerker, too... always thought it was touching how he tried to save her from the war in Vietnam by sending her to America.

@Sparklefan1234 Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!

Jungle Movie Spoiler:

The Jungle Movie was the best Nickelodeon movie ever!!! You are so right that I would love it! I loved the prison escape scene, the plot twists, the humor, and the ending. The characters stayed true to themselves, and some of the Pookie moments were hilarious! My only critique that the villain is a bit one dimensional, but otherwise, he is pretty clever.

9.5/10!

My thoughts on "The Jungle Movie" in gif/written form.

Jungle Movie Spoilers

Spoiler
  1. I *loved* that Helga was voiced by Francesca Marie Smith!  :D
  2. I agree that King La Sombra was a one dimensional villain. :smug:
  3. I almost cried at the ending when I thought Arnold's parent's wouldn't wake up & when it looked like Arnold finding his parents was all a dream. :(
  4. I laughed when Bob & Miriam forgot they had TWO daughters. :lol:

@Sparklefan1234

Jungle Movie Spoiler:

1. I know, right?! Francesca is the only one who can voice Helga. She has a personality that's so deep and three-dimensional that it would be very difficult for anyone else to imitate her without sounding fake.

2. ;)

3. Yeah, that movie would have sucked big time, if it all turned out to be a dream....  So glad it wasn't.

4. I laughed at that one, too! Funny how my parents didn't get it, because they don't know how Bob is.

5. Do you think there will be another season?

Jungle Movie Spolier

Spoiler

5. You know how you said someone else voicing Helga would feel forced?

 That's how I would feel about another season of "Hey, Arnold!", TBH.

I think Arnold's story ended as close to a "happily ever after" as you could get & (To me.) it would be a good idea to just leave it at that.
