Pick a Justin Bieber song.

16 hours ago, TigerGeekGuy said:

Why is it that hot water freezes faster than cold water?

Well, there's this thing called 'thermal contradiscrepancy syndrome' (or TCDS for short). It is the state of existence in which a being is both cool and hot at the same time, and which, clearly, I have mastered (among others; take for example Dwayne Johnson and Arnold Schwarzenegger).

The act of heating up water only to cool it to sub-zero temperatures, under certain conditions, artificially induces observable levels of TCDS in that particular manifestation of myself and thus causes the water to freeze quicker than one would expect, being far cooler than mere physical laws would predict, despite simultaneously being incredibly hot.

True story.

16 hours ago, TigerGeekGuy said:

He eats magic habanero peppers.

He only burns stuff with his breath when he hasn't had his daily dose of them.

16 hours ago, TigerGeekGuy said:

What enables a hydra's head to grow back?

All hydras have insane hammerspace-manipulating biopuppet masters hidden inside their bodies (artificially grown from mutated komodo dragon cell cultures, incidentally), which take sadistic pleasure out of giving would-be heroes permanent psychological damage.

16 hours ago, TigerGeekGuy said:

Is it possible that Equestrians know more about quantum physics than we do?

That equation that's always written on Cheerilee's blackboard has a buncha weird variables in it that might qualify for 'beyond our science'.

Other than that, there's no canon evidence that they know anything about quantum physics.

They definitely know a whole lot about relativity (see 'It's About Time' and Twilight's blackboard partway through), which makes sense given the obvious ease of undertaking vital scientific experiments using entire celestial bodies in Equestria, but we still don't know how to get relativity and quantum physics to play nicely with each other. Perhaps Equestria is in the process of developing a play-nice variant of quantum physics from the relativistic principles they've known since someone first convinced Celestia to mess around with the sky to figure out how gravity works.

Ponies appear to have some advantage in terms of moral capacity over humans, so it might not even be a real issue.

In the short-term, we'd probably have a massive 'situation' on our hands as the ramifications of other-worldly life and magic and time travel and mythological beasts and talking horses and friendship magic etc. etc. did a number on society (n > 1,000,000, by my estimation) and thus made the economy do a triple-backflip skydive off the Eiffel Tower.

Long-term, everything would be utterly revolutionised and the resultant tech would be off-the-charts amazing. What that does to the economy would depend on how the tech was actually used. (WWIII time-truncating nukes, anyone?)

Graphene is a very shiny innovation. Many promising applications.

But I also heard recently that scientists experimented with VR simulations on a bunch of random civilians and found out that regular humans can comprehend the geometry of (and accurately navigate through) four-dimensional mazes without any actual training, which is frankly gobsmacking.

I actually couldn't give you a single movie scene that stayed in my mind for more than a few days immediately following my first watch of it.

I mean, I can remember a bunch of movie scenes from random movies, but they're not particularly striking; they're just the ones that my memory didn't discard efficiently enough.

Insofar as I can tell, I can't truly remember anything that doesn't inherently make logical sense for any significant length of time without actively trying to, even when it comes to my early life, so most of my long-term memories are merely scraps of concept, blown around my head like tumbleweeds by the mental breeze generated by my mind's moving parts.

I have an actual set of (antique) scales, so I worked it out with physical weights. :pout:

Put three weights on each side of the scales.

If the sides weigh equal, weigh the two left-over weights to find which one is the lighter one.

If the sides weigh unequal, put aside the two left-over weights and the three that were on the heavier side and weigh two of the three weights that were on the lighter side of the scales.

If one weighs lighter than the other, the answer is obvious, and if they weigh equal then the final left-over weight is the lighter one.

Yay for logic. :yay:

Meteorology is a ridiculously imprecise science when it comes to numerical results.

The idea that a butterfly's wingbeats could cause a cyclone on the other side of the world (due to how delicately the final state of a weather system relies on the original conditions) was the name inspiration for the butterfly effect, infamous in chaos theory.

There's a fairly logical reason for that, of course; on the Moon, you have about 1 bar of pressure difference over the surface of your suit (1 bar on the inside, nil bars on the outside), while, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, you have about 1085 bars of pressure difference over the surface of your suit (1 bar on the inside, 1086 bars on the outside).

Water is heavy.

Common misconception.

There's no sound at all, they're just radio-wave emissions artificially converted into sound-wave recordings so the news websites have something layman-comprehensible to headline.

The radio waves do indicate that Saturn has an aurora like Earth, though, which would be nifty to take a look at.

@Duality

How do you get so many people to ask you questions on an Ask A Pony Page?

If you'll greatly beg my pardon, Mine's been dried for weeks. Even though I have a link to it in my signature

I've been keeping an eye on the hows and whys of the situation since you asked me how I did it the first time, and I've concluded that it's like the old Biblical quip: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

If you want lots of people to ask you questions on your ask thread, ask lots of people questions on theirs.

I'm one of the most prolific askers on the forums, as far as I've seen, and there are about fifteen different ask threads on which I post another set of weird and wonderful questions the instant the previous set have been answered. Every last one of my frequent question-askers are people whose ask thread belongs to that group of fifteen.
