Who's the new captain of the guard?

Shining Armor was the original captain of the Royal Guard, but now that Shining lives in the Crystal Empire as the prince, that means he's no longer part of the Canterlot guard, and he'd have to be replaced! So... who's the replacement? Hopefully the show can mention that soon!

Maybe Flash Sentry is the new guard. That explains also why we don't see him anymore, because is far to busy for that.

Flash is, and always has been, part of the Crystal Guard, placing him under Shining Armor's command, as Shining Armor has once again taken up the role of Captain, this time for the Crystal Empire.

I don't know if I'm understanding this wrong, but I meant Flash being captain of the guard, but then in Canterlot. I know he is already a guard, as seen in equestria girls and three's a crowd.

Cadence said that he was a new member of the guard at the end of Equestria Girls, and wasn't completely sure about his name. That right there shows he hasn't been around long, and if he had previously been working in the Canterlot guard for any amount of time Cadence still probably should've known about him since she was also living in Canterlot until recently. Otherwise her being unfamiliar with him just implies that he hasn't been around long or done much, certainly not enough to then be recommended to be captain of the guards over more senior ponies.

You assume the princesses know every guard by name. There are just to many to remember.

Of course I don't assume that. I assume the princesses know at least the names of the highest ranking guards, particularly the captain of the guards or any guards that would be chosen as a replacement for that position.

I'm pretty sure they would've already filled the position by now instead of waiting for Flash to get enough credit to somehow jump ahead of all his seniors.

I'm going to go with incidental pony #52.

We haven't had an episode where a replacement has been shown as it has been important to a story. The role itself wasn't that important, outside of giving Shining Armor a prominent position which he now has elsewhere. If we do ever see a character in that role, I suspect it would be a new character central to that episode's story. 

As far as Flash -- due to the lack of any substantive reappearances, I'm a little ambivalent about the Equestria version. It seemed he was there for a brief moment, and then wasn't.

I would find it hilarious if it was Flash Sentry who became the new captain of the guard.

I hope it isn't Flash Sentry. Would be a shame to have one of the most generic male characters ever became the leader of an entire security force. Beyond that, there aren't many options either. We don't know of too many candidates at Canterlot. Could be Button Mash for all we know. He gives orders via wireless communication from Ponyville, hiding in the shadows. Hence why we never see him.

Assuming there is actually a vacancy too - he was a captain of the royal guard, but not necessarily the only one.

He's a grizzled old stallion with an eyepatch who got pulled out of retirement after he'd been dishonorably discharged from Captain position due to his unconventional methods. He also has a partner who's a real nut job with a death wish. Together they've caused more damage to Equestria than all the villains combined. Totes legit.
