Worst song in the series?

Personally I find most EqG song to be quite enjoyable. :P

That said the worst for me is usually BBBFF as it just felt WAY too forced, and it didn't help that we had absolutely no emotional connection, let alone knowledge, of Shining Armor at that point. And even then it just sounds sappy for sappy's sake.

The Flim & Flam brothers songs are the worst because they're annoying.

I love "The Flim Flam Cider Song", that's one of my absolute favorites in the whole series. But I thought "Flim Flam Miracle Curative Tonic" was really underwhelming.

"At the Gala" didn't really appeal to me either, though most seem to like it. I just thought it was too long, to the point of feeling like filler to me (in an otherwise great episode). With "Winter Wrap Up", I could excuse the song taking up several minutes due to its catchiness, but this didn't have the same effect on me. I guess it just isn't my bucket of oats...

By a country mile. I understand that it falls in with the songs that are supposed to be comedic and intentionally bad, but this (for me) failed at even that.

In just overall enjoyability I feel Magical Mystery Cure's "Morning in Ponyville"/"Life in Equestria" it is so unnecessarily bland, too quick, too simple, too just meh, doesn't have the same kick as other reprises like "Hearth's Warming Eve Is Here Once Again" or "Make Our Marks".....speaking of which

Now for me personally the worst song by lyrics and implications is "The Pony I Want To Be." It sounds nice, Chantal sings beautifully, but it completely undermines everything Diamond Tiara has done as an antagonist for the CMC

"Would you believe that I always wished I could be somepony else?" NO! You lived a perfectly happy and uneventful life with your friend only losing once in a while but getting right back up again because you LOVED your place in life. Sure I have sympathy for your loss in this episode but don't try to tell me I should feel bad for all the other things you did, and all because of Spoiled Rich's influence apparently! Well....nope not even going to touch that character (still love you DT but you needed a better sympathy song).

I was going to say BBBFF but I'd completely forgotten that this was a thing so...yeah. That.

I might have to say 'We're not flawless'. It was one of those out of the blue songs that served no purpose other than to tell us something that is kinda obvious. We know the characters have flaws. Hell, that's a positive thing for them to have! Apparently though we need this song to remind us that they aren't perfect. Pretty sure since we are nearly 7 full seasons in, we know this by now.

Though this one...Geez. This is the first I have heard of it. I skipped this episode based on reputation and I think I made a good choice.

I've never been a fan of Stop The Bats because the tone of it is so aggressive. Seeing the rest of the mane six circling around Fluttershy at the end of the song was irritating.

Yea, were not flawless is the worst to me cuz if you listen closely they werent really in tune. It was sort of shaky, even in the beginning. My oponion though. Have a great day everypony~

Yes so true. This song goes against Fluttershy. All of her friends should of been aware that they were inconsiderate of her reasoning.

Not in order:

  • The Cloudesdale Anthem. What's a good way to make an episode and arc suck? By announcing a child will sing an anthem in front of maybe 70,000 ponies and turning him into an even bigger idiot.
  • You'll Play Your Part. The lyrics are stilted, directionless, and stale. Everyone mostly standing around as they sung hurts the atmosphere and Twilight's plight.
  • The CMC song from The Show Stoppers. What's a good way to make them look like bigger idiots than they already are? Screw up their talent show song and have everyone laugh at them for how bad it is.
  • We're a Work in Progress. From my Fame review:
    Quote

While the musical melody for Work in Progress is good, the lyrics make the song the worst of the season. (Yes, worse than the duel between Big Mac and Stereo Pop.) The song (and by extension, the "we're not flawless" moral) is a loaded statement. Everyone knows the characters are flawed and how important the combination of both strengths and weaknesses makes the characters appealing, relatable, and memorable. Sometimes, the characters make really terrible mistakes, but what makes them work or not is whether these mistakes make sense or not. Sometimes the showrunners make sloppy, careless, or lazy mistakes, and people criticize the execution of the characters and story, because they love the show and know the writers can do much better, hope they learn from their mistakes, and hope these mistakes don't happen again.

The "It's flawed" excuse is as stupid as "It's a kids' show." Flawed characters don't make up for poor characterization, worldbuilding, or writing overall. When you're a moral-driven cartoon with huge focus on likeable characters like this one, your reasons for characters (especially ones designed to be role models to children) to act like jerks must make sense. "In character" and "flawed" don't justify bad behavior.

The Evil Enchantress song without a doubt, well... if one could call that a song.

Agreed. Also, all of them "throw away songs". Like, I don't know, "Pie sisters swap date song" and similar stuff:okiedokieloki:

When we look at the real songs though...I don't like The Spectacle.

Granted, I'm only in season 3, but I definitely agree with the BBBFF being too forced. I'm trying to think of all the songs that weren't intentionally bad, but I'm drawing a blank...I did like the first Flim Flam song about the apple cider, but only because I like that style of song, another term that escapes me. Aside from that, I kinda just ignore the music. I realize that some of these songs are going to be annoying because they're aimed at kids. I find kid songs annoying, always have. Except when I was a kid, obviously.

Like quite a few of the songs in the series, it's a nod to Broadway musical theatre (particularly 1957's Music Man).

Have to agree, that song sounded extremely forced and directionless. I also didn't like "Best Friends Until the End of Time" from S7 Episode 2, the repeating didn't sound like it belonged to me. Looks like I'm among the few that actually found B.B.B.F.F. to be very sweet and fitting.

I don't mind BBBFF, either. At least, not on its own. Unfortunately, it tried to convince us that Twilight and her brother had a tight sibling relationship despite the fact that we didn't know she had a bro at all till ACW. If he was introduced at some other point in the series or if ACW was written differently to reflect their bond better, then it might be better received.
