I'll bite, even if this is a totally toxic question.

First off. Let's just get this out of the way....

 

Best pony? Best background Pony? Or Best Princess....

I argue it is strait up unfair to include the Princesses in the discussion. Because they are ether the main character. (Twilight) Or we get less of them, just they have less over all time to 'spoil'. - That is to say they get just enough cover to make them not over exposed, but not to vague.

Princess? I say Celestia, but I also say its is REALLY subjective, and is just going to be taste. I think teh character brings up the most interesting question and world building ideals...

Character wise its Twilight.....

Pony?
Twilight? Unless we again say she can not be considered...

Then I say it really depends on what point in the show your at... But most likely Dash or Rarity. Maybe AJ.

Simply put some of the character just fall behind after a while in the development department.

It also really depends on what you consider "Best."
My answer is simple...

The ponies I would want to be friends with.

And that would most likely be Rarity or Dash or AJ. But for different reasons.

Dash because she would be fun to hang out with.

Rarity because she likes some of the 'finer' things I like.

And AJ because, well I grew up on a farm and like the outdoors. (I would want to be drinking buddies with AJ and Dash, and Social friends with Rarity)

Fluttershy and Pikie would be comfortably in the "Friends but not one's I go out of my way to be around" Area.

 

All that being said... Twilight and Starlight would actually be the closest to my intrests overall. Give Starlight and trixe a little while longer and I might pick them.

Pinkie Pie has not budged an inch from her throne at the top of my favorite character list since shortly after the Cutie Mark Chronicles.

If you took all the writing I've done over the seasons over how much I love the character for her relentless quest to spread joy and good feelings and stuck it up on a wall, well, nobody would ever approach me again without grabby tongs....but also it would paint my admiration for her positivity in the face of things like personal flaws and mistakes and regrets and anxiety. She hits a lot of the notes that matter most to me as a human.

Why?  Simply because for me she is the most relatable of the mane 6. When everyone is acting all crazy she is the only one who at least tries to make some sense out of all of it. Also sarcasm is best humor and Twilight almost has the title of most sarcastic character ( Discord number 1 of course )

It depends on what this question is asking. Favorite what pony? Favorite background? Favorite main? It could mean so many things, so, I made a list.

Personally, my favorite main pony has to be Applejack. She's honest, and she always apologizes and tells the truth when she's not (which I don't think was that many times?)

Favorite secondary pony as to be Sunburst. I don't know.. he's smart and wasn't afraid to stick up to his mother. I wish I had the courage to do that with my family half the time.

Favorite background pony? I feel like all background ponies are overrated tbh.. but if I had to choose, I'd definitely go with Derpy. Not because she's derpy or overrated, but because her design is pretty nice to look at. Never thought yellow on gray would be an interesting color palette.

Favorite pony that had a redemption arc/showed up a few times but was never seen again? Hm.. not sure how many episodes she's been in, but I'm going with Diamond Tiara. The fact that she was forced to be better because of her parents, and then realizing that the CMC just wanted to help her realize she can be her own pony.

Favorite redemption arc overall? Discord. My brother was super obsessed with him and eventually converted me to the religion that is Chaos. He's just also super fun and dumb, I love it. Definitely wouldn't mind raining milk.

Favorite villain? Oh boy.. Hm.. I really like Chrysalis.. but I also really like the Storm King and Tirek.. There's just so many interesting villains tbh. I do believe my favorite villain overall is the Storm King. He's interesting and we know nothing about him, not even he knows anything about himself surprisingly.

Favorite princess? Again, Discord wins my vote on this one. I mean, he's obviously the best Princess. Dude could defeat Thanos if given the chance.

For me it always has been fluttershy. I connect to her because I was also shy in my childhood too, I like animals and she's kind and a pegasus (best ones!!) and of course she gives tea parties  But I love all ponys though, she is just my best pony .

Now reading @Neoerynpost: Fluttershy is my best pony from the mane six and overall. My best scondary pony would be Starlight, Derpy as the best background pony, Scoots as best cmc, Luna as best princess
