None of their other programs still hold a candle to its popularity. From my point of view, it's actually going how I said: after the peaks reached in S4 and 5, the show gradually lost its powers from then on, and the charts prove it. The fact that now the popularity is at the levels of the S2 is not a good thing at all if you compare it to the levels of S4 and 5. Like I said, if it wasn't for the Movie I would have already taken as granted that the S8 would have been the last (infact you can see a small boost in popularity in October 2017), so once the hype for the Movie will end, the situation will return the one it was before the Movie, and eventually the toys' sales will drop until.... the show will be cancelled. n1029 229 October 19, 2017 Share October 19, 2017 It's probably not going to reach S4 popularity again, but it may level out and remain steady like the way South Park did after its first few seasons. And, as I said, it's still the big reason Discovery Family remains in existence

MLP is not really that popular in ratings because it is on a dead irrelevant network that everyone hates, if it went to Cartoon Network I guarantee new episodes would bet anywhere from 500k-1.5M in ratings with it reaching into 2M on premieres/finale, if it was on DIsney XD I would guarantee 300-900k new episode ratings That's how dead DF is, the Making of the MLP movie special got HORRIBLE ratings as well. If it weren't for the movie, FIM would still be one of Hasbros biggest brands right now and it would still continue. Even at the shows peak the ratings were pretty meh, because even the Hub wasn't worth getting. Edited October 20, 2017 by Ryanmahaffe

Guess maybe seasons 9 or 10 is the correct answer if this is true. But in all things considered, all Hasbro cares about is toy marketings. As long as toys sell, they don't care what happens. That has nothing to do with that I said. Fim is one of Hasbros biggest brands and there seems to be a decent investment in it lately (movie, eqg series, new executive producer)

Hasbro is making alot on the show, but would Discovery Family be able to hang on to it? That's the question! Hasbro is fine, but DF could be struggling. Either FIM would get canceled, or move to a different channel. Probably the latter.

Hasbro wouldn't let FIM die because DF is struggling, they would movie it to another network or make it entirely internet like a youtube or netflix thing.

And also the chart I mentioned wasn't about the ratings but about the trend of the series on Google, and how often is searched on it. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=2010-10-10 2017-10-18&q=%2Fm%2F0czdsgs See? The last month was even slightly inferior to when it was at the first S2 times, and saw a boost this month thanks to the Movie. And As i pointed plenty of times, sales dropped gradually as well during the last three quarters of year, and that fits with this chart. You can say whatever you want Ryan, but after seeing it, I'm more convinced of what I stated: if it wasn't for the Movie, the S8 would have very likely been the last one and when the hype for it will be gone things will return to be like they were before this month and the drop will keep going (especially since with the Movie done and the S7 over, there is not gonna be anything new about MLP for a while). So my guess is that the S9 will be the last. Edited October 20, 2017 by Sly
n1029 229 October 20, 2017 Share October 20, 2017 I don't know why you keep trying to push such a pessimistic outlook about this. The show will end when they decide to end it and I don't think there's a point worrying right now.

No show can go on forever, and MLP's status co pletely depends on how the sales go. I just pointed the situation and my opinion on the matter nothing more. Besides while I loved the S7 way more than I could ever expect, I'd still prefer the series ending before it becomes the shadow of its former self (especially considering that the S6 was still a letdown for me). The series hasn't gone downhill yet, but it will if they push it too far, so I'd prefer it ending at the ninth season anyway.

You've been going on and on for almost a year telling us how S7 and the film was the end, and they have more or less come and gone (Well legally 7 has a couple episodes still, but you know what I mean). Or are you now going to just doom and gloom all these types of threads now with your theories and predictions on why the end is nigh and we should all repent to save our pony souls? It is not realism, IT IS pessimism. Of course the show will end, when Hasbro wants to end it. That may be at the end of S8 or the end of S20 for all we know. MLP:FIM has been lightning in a bottle for them and they know it. Ratings and numbers don't mean squat anymore with all the different ways people consume the show. And even the toys seem to be rethinking themselves and aiming for different markets now instead of just sticking to the tried and true of the past. As far as the season going downhill, that is all an opinion. There are fans of it right this moment who feel the show has been going downhill since S1 and a couple who think S7 was the worst yet by some of their reactions. You can solve a heck of a lot of emotional issues by changing the channel and watching things you do enjoy than continually watching something you don't and continually telling those who do enjoy it how much you wish it would go away. ~No profound statement needed~
Them's Seeing Ponies 282 October 20, 2017 Share October 20, 2017 Probably 10 seasons. It's nonetheless incredible that FiM has endured seven seasons without undergoing any major seasonal rot (even season 6 wasn't all that bad), and if the show can keep its quality standards afloat for any longer, I would be glad to witness it reaching 10 seasons. Yeah, even at the shows peak the ratings weren't that great, during season 4 especially, the show was WAAY more popular than Steven Universe or Star VS are now and yet still just got average ratings, because even the Hub wasn't really worth it. Anyway, with or without the movie, MLP is still very profitable and would have pushed past 8, the "leaked" 9th season thing is probably quite old anyway if true. But, my point still stands, MLP gets bad ratings more so because of the network it is on and less so the lacking interest in the series.

Well, surely after a very strong S7 and with a big piece like Nicole Dubuc at the head now it wouldn't be the case to worry now, I will concede you that. But I'm still convinced that ending the series at the right moment would be bette (alternatively, a rebranding of the same series would be another good solution, like Hasbro did with Rescue Bots: the series is over but now they are doing a sequel series denominated Rescue bots Academy, which happens in the same universe of the original but with different protagonists. That would be a good solution to keep going MLP without ruining anything established in past IMO). But aside of what are my concerns I don't think my reasonments are completely wrong, and I've shown several points of interest about it already. For the looks of things, I think FiM won't last over 10 seasons. But you may be right about something, that doesn't mean it'll be the end of G4 ponies, as they could pull the same as Rescue Bots, which was something I was suggesting for ages Sig by Discords
