Interspecies couples?

Whirlwindmark

Recommended Posts

Not counting Spike and Rarity as it's clearly just a child crush(like the one from Fosters home)

but I mean, will we ever see something like say a Pony-Changeling couple, a Pony-Dragon couple, a Griffin-Pony couple, etc?

Or would that be too controversial?

I don't know, I kinda want to see how another species(Dragon, Changeling or Griffin) would react to being the one getting hit on. Ember and Promenence seem like the most attractive in terms of female dragons, would be kinda funny if say a Stallion went up and said? "Wanna go out? I'm not picky."

Aren't Fluttershy and Discord already a semi-official couple? It seems like the show is already okay with an interspecies pairing.

I'm not up to date (no pun intended) with the show, but from what I've seen it's a comical device, not a romatic relationship. It's funny to see Discord get ordered around and such by timid little Flutters. But they're just friends of sorts, not potential lovers. It wouldn't really make sense to me. Just thinking about LGBT issues; should there be an episode where two creatures of different species fall in love and want to marry, but are forbidden to do so, and the story centers around their struggle at gaining acceptance, an alegory for the difficulties faced by gay couples? Would that suit the tone of the show, or would everyone freak out? Just putting the idea out there.

As M. A. Larson would agree if you want to do an interspecies relationship right you ship anypony with Gummy. And even better you don't have to limit it the ponies-dragons, griffons, rocks they all work and who's going to raise controversy against that wizard with words.

Actually, it would be more like an interracial couple; the LGBT part would only apply if they were same-gendered as well.

Personally; I would LOVE to see this! I think interspecies relationships are quite interesting when pulled off right, I would like to see the show do something with it.

Though, the comics kinda did something like this with the pirate arc when a stallion and female merpony had feelings for each others.

The comics don't count.

I wasn't aware that interracial marriage was still an issue, but I'll take your word for it... In an episode of Futurama there was a situation involving the legalization of Human X Robot relationships. That's what I meant by alegory; it's a way of telling a story which makes more sense in the context of the work of fiction than a literal telling of the troubles faced by unconventional couples.

Interspecies dating is what irked me about the Mass Effect games. I would look at some of the aliens you could start a romance with, and I'd think to myself, why would anybody want to have sexual relations with them? I'm sure they're not bad people, but goddamn it. That blue lady with the tentacle hair looks like her brains could fall out of her head at any moment. And the grey guy wearing all that heavy body armor has a face so devoid of any humanoid features, you can't even make out with him.

I don't approach this subject any differently with MLP. As much as I've warmed up to the characters, I'm not sure Fluttershy would feel comfortable getting busy with someone who's literally a mishmash of different creatures.

Interspecies couple? How about no.

I've never been a fan of interspecies unless they are very close in features. Like Humans and Eldars from Middle Earth, that is something that works in my eyes. But a human and an dwarf? An elf and a dwarf? Just no.

Same would apply here :T I could see fellow equines being couples, but outside of that is a no from me.

And technically, The Movie itself had something going as well... Remember Rarity and Capper?

They also sell them together as a toy set. Rarity and Capper Dapperpaws do make an interesting couple. It's like Padme and Lando.

I don't see why not. Ponies, Griffons, Dragons, etc all seem to be fully sapient, so there's no real reason why they shouldn't be able to. Why not a pony in a relationship with a Griffon? Or a Minotaur?

The only reason against it I'm seeing in this thread so far is "I wouldn't do it!", to which I must respond...So? The characters are not you, they do not have to have your tastes.

I think the word you're looking for is "sentient", but that's beside the point.

If you met a dog that appeared to be an ordinary animal, you wouldn't approve of anybody using it to engage in sexual deviancy. But what if that same dog developed the intellect and capacity for speech that a human had? Would that make having a relationship with it suddenly acceptable? I don't think it would, because just visualizing it alone would still make any rational person throw up. Maybe the characters don't have to have our tastes, but if they weren't equally disturbed by a pony lusting after Capper, in a world where cats like Opal exist, I'd still have to question their sanity.

Yep. And if Equestrian ponies were real, I STILL wouldn't have sexual relations with them. Twilight would not arouse me anymore than a horse that has nothing better to do than graze all day.

That drives me crazy sometimes. Someone on the internet somewhere misused a ten dollar word and it spread like wildfire among some communities. People use it to try and sound intellectual. Meh.

It's also a bad word to describe any species evolved into a highly intelligent one -- cause I doubt any such species would want to be identified using a word designed to describe them like another species.

Reminds me of the old joke about Martians calling themselves Martians. ;)

I mean in the movie Rarity did seem to find Capper to be quite charming for a brief while.

So I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up becoming an interspecies couple.

I can see some potential in it, so I would be a little interested in seeing how it could play out.

No, I meant "Sapient". I believed it was the word used to describe beings on the same level as intelligence as a human being, while sentient could describe normal animals and up. My mistake, it seems that was wrong.

Anyway, yes. If a dog developed the same level of intelligence as a human being and was able to give proper consent, I don't think it'd be wrong. The reason doing that with a dog now would be wrong is because it's lacking in the higher level of intelligence and awareness we have, and can't give proper consent, if that was changed things would be different. Maybe people would still think it's gross and weird, and that's fine. I probably wouldn't find any dog attractive either if they were smart, but I can't call it "Wrong" just because a bunch of people think it's gross.

Fair enough that you don't want to do that, but I'd totally date quite a few ponies from the show even if they were still ponies, provided they still looked similarly to their show appearance. Because there's a huge difference between a pony like Twilight who thinks and talks and reads books than a horse who grazes, they are not the same thing at all.

I'm curious what you all will think of The Shape of Water. It's a movie coming out in a couple months that delves into this issue.

Consensuality is the big key, imo.

I certainly wouldn’t find it controversial. Not in the slightest. It’s basically an interracial couple as far as I’m concerned.

A fair chunk of my own ships are interspecies couples.

We have a few evidences of that being possible:

-The mule. Mules are crossbreed by donkeys and either horse or pony

-We know that Tirek and Scorpan are brothers, despite each being a different species. The comics shows their parents, and each is from said species as well

-Twi had a crush on Flashy, and Sunny was his girlfriend. Both girls are born ponies
