I recently thought about the 40th anniversary of star wars and how much the original has inspired cinema in the last 40 years. But the more i thought about the year 1977, there have been some other things that have made the year very important for pop culture.

-Again Star Wars, being the first movie to be a gigantic summer blockbuster and pretty much inventing the term for it and also making the sci-fi genre a household genre in movies..

-The Atari VCS (know mostly as the Atari 2600) was released and was pretty much the start of what is today a billion dollar corporation, that even makes more money then Hollywood

-Advanced Dungeons&Dragons which pretty much set the model standard for everything fantasy and pen&paper RPG that we still use today.

 

Is there a year that even comes close to the impact 1977 had?

Yeah like the 7th year of every decade is what I can honestly call the year of evolution like it's happening right now with the MLP movie and the new IPhones and a number of other things. Plus we had a massive society and culture evolution back in 2007 when we moved on from the early 2000s culture to our current more modern pop culture. And yes my dad was around back in 1977 to experience everything back then as a seven year old! Anyways there really is a pattern with pop culture and society evolutions as it always happens on the 7th year of every decade and it's happening right now.

Maybe 1945? It was the year that permanently altered geopolitics worldwide and marked the beginning of an atomic age, with fierce capitalism vs communism sentiment which influenced pop-culture and affected the lives of millions for decades. It was also the birth year of the United Nations, microwave ovens, and atomic bomb- things that had a powerful impact on the world and how it is today.

1977 is a legit year for someone who is 40 today. It's important to me.

 

I'm going to have to say there is no keystone year for anything. That isn't how human society works -- at all.

1977 was a very interesting year weather wise. It was the year that snow was reported as far south as MIAMI, FL. The Bahamas even reported snow, the first and only time it's ever happened. 1977 also had really good music too just like any other year in that decade.

Well ... serendipity finds me again. That was a staple of my childhood that I haven't heard in a looooong time. Listening to this now is a very different experience. Those lyrics. This was a 1977 hit. 40 years later it hits in a different sort of way.

Oh god, it's ironic considering i watched this movie earlier this week and it's actually better then i remembered.
