Does anyone else hide their interests in MLP? I generally do it from some of my family and friends because it would just be instant judgement and no actual understanding from them, also the social stigmas surrounding it being negative to others kinda really scares me:(

I don't really hide my interest in MLP anymore, especially with my family and friends, but also out in public for the most part... Well, except for the time I went to the cinemas to watch the MLP movie, which I had to unfortunately do on my own, not sure why I decided to hide my Twilight Sparkle T-shirt with a jumper when I watched that.

I wouldn't say I purposefully hide it. I just only bring it up around certain people. My best friend is also a fan so she knows. Some people from a "nerd club" at my university know. A few friends who aren't fans know. A few people on social media know.

My parents almost certainly know but they have never talked about it with me. They spied on my internet activity the whole time I was a teenager so of course they knew, but I was always too shy to actually bring it up with them. I wonder if they thought it was just some weird phase. My brother doesn't know because I once casually explained what a brony is and he said he was disgusted so I never bothered to even mention it again. :okiedokieloki:

Yeah my brother has also said some of the same things (although he know I am a fan of the music ) but like I have told very few and I am very close about it, I just didn't know if that was just me, Thank you for sharing, I always find it good to get another perspective!:muffins:

There are maybe a half dozen people who know I'm a brony. I don't really hide it, but it doesn't really come up in conversation, either.

No. I tell 'em it's 2017 and get over it!

OOOF I wish I was on that level but I just don't have the confidence inmyself for that kind of action, best to just wait until I can attend a meetup or convention

Yeah to be honest knowing my parents wouldn't react well to me being a brony at the moment really sort of forces me to keep it a total secret in real life. Plus there's no way I want my younger brother to know to as he's a real dibber dober so he would tell everyone about me being a brony if he found out and I would get heavily judged over it. Anyways the only real life person who knows about me being a brony is a girl that goes to my school called Ashley. We often talk about MLP on DA and she's a really good artist. Plus before I revealed my bronyness to Ashley I did see by her content on her DA that she was definitely into MLP herself anyways so I knew I could trust her as she already understood the show! And then there's another user from the forums who's a close friend of mine who I've met in real life a couple of times! :)

Nope, everyone who knows me knows I'm a pegasister, my family, and of course all my friends. I don't care what people think about me. If they think it's weird I enjoy a show meant for little girls, that's their problem, not mine. :sunshower:

I don't really feel any shame over what I like, besides maybe being a furry but even that I don't really care if people know.  I'd rather be open with people these days and if they find out what my interests are, so what?  It isn't like I'm hiding it or anything.  I've spent my whole life keeping things to myself and I'm rather done doing that.  I guess that's the bonus to living by myself.

Sometimes it's just best to put yourself out there. But...build enough confidence to start with first!

My mother has figured it out since I once left a drawing of someone's OC in the scanner (I forgot to take it out) :P

Other than that, I don't think anyone else outside of the forums (or deviantArt) knows. I just don't really have a reason to talk about it.

No. I used to care massively what others thought about me, but that's mostly in the past now.

All that matters is the present and what I want to do with my life. So, I'm very blatant about my interest about the show. They can either accept that I'm a different person to them and embrace/accept that, or, if they have a problem with it, they can get lost.

Anyone else's opinion on the matter is irrelevant, and that goes for my family as well. They DO accept the fact that I watch what is typically defined as a "kid's" show and I appreciate that about them, it's been fairly easy as far as they're concerned. However, and this applies to everybody/anybody who has this problem, your parent's feelings on the matter, regardless when they're positive or not, mean nothing. YOUR preferences come before anything else. Don't forget that.

Told one of my best friends today! Learned that he wactahes some of the show! Told brother too and he was just aghast and went immediately to stereotypes (although he was well natured about it):)

@Rarity the Supreme thats a good way to look at it!

I don't make a point to hide my interests in anything. For that matter I don't make a point to advertise my interests either. If someone knows about it, who cares? I am who I am and I like what I like. Nothing earth-shattering here.
