spoiler Anybody tired of the same season endings?

Recommended Posts

I am only just finishing up season 2 but every season finale has ended in the protagonist underestimating the power of friendship or love and than getting defeated practically handing them the victory.

Now it' not that annoying but it's just really boring, I'm not sure if they will switch it up but I sure do hope so.

Also was the S2 ending not the most stereotypical ending ever?

Didn’t the first season end with a Slice of Life episode?

Rhetorical question, yes it did, which means that when you’ve only seen two season finale’s but are saying all of them are the same... really?

I haven’t yet seen a finale I haven’t liked, some of them share elements across them, but like all formulaic shows, the fun isn’t so much the end of the story where the baddy is defeated, it’s all the little steps along the way as you see how they beat the baddy.

And yes, some of the later two-parters do try and mix up the formula.

I didn't say that they were pretty much the same this far, also note they defeated princess Luna in almost the same way.

A finale is the last episode, or two episodes, of a season/show.

The opening is called the premier. Luna and Discord were premiers, Chrysalis was a finale.

Collectively, both are just called two-parters for simplicities sake.

I know what a finale is

And I'm not sure how the end of season 1 was a premier.

I'm just gonna tell you this right now: not every season finale is like that. Which you should know from The Best Night Ever, which is merely a tale of a night at the Gala.

And the endings of the subsequent finales after Season 2 do vary. It's not the same ending every single time. ;)

I'm not sure why you're singling out this one in particular. You'll find that such happy endings are common in shows like MLP: FiM. Even if they don't all happen in exactly the same way.

Are you here just to argue

If you know what a finale is, then why are you purposefully using the word wrong to also discuss premiers? :okiedokieloki:

Say what you mean to say, don’t just wing it and expect people to be able to figure out what you really meant.

I never said it was, I didn’t even mention it at all.

Pointing out a mistake you made isn’t starting an argument.

Is this not saying that discord was a premier

It is, because it was. The discord episodes were Season 2 Episodes 1 & 2.

Perhaps I have the meaning of premier wrong but isn't  season 2 a bit late for a premier

I think you got the wrong definition of premiere wrong. The premiere isn't just the first episode of the show it's the first episode of every season in the show.

Oh ok then

Friendship is Magic ultimately is a kids show despite the huge adult following it has. As such, storylines have to focus on the same general themes though they do experiment with them to give audiences something new to experience.

Ok, @donttellmum. Did you actually see ALL the MLP season Finales? Because to you, they may all have the same outline, but they're not really the same exact events. They ARE variations in each one. If you don't mind spoilers, I can list all of them and why each one is different.

Because it sounds like you have high standards for what's supposed to be a family-friendly show first and foremost.

Something that people are overlooking is that I said to note that I'm only on season 3

Then I must respectfully ask that you finish watching all the Finales before asking the topic's question. You're only in the early seasons, after all.

Don't forget: the name of the show is "Friendship is Magic". That's the main focus and most important thing in the show's setting.

Indeed

I agree although this thread was based thus far

Alright man, to be completely honest, it does get kinda repetitive (not saying it all is), but in all honesty, we just kinda shrug it off cause' it's tradition, like transforming literally every villain with the exception of Chrysalis, but that's because she's a bug monster.

YES! I'm tired of the every season after the first giving us the same ending! It's getting old real fast. The premieres and finales are so predictable, I simply can't take the show's villains seriously anymore.

There, Robbie Rotten just saved you two long, repetitive, predictable hours.

Are you just here to post controversial topics? If so, you picked the wrong group of people. Not sure if you noticed but it's damn near impossible to get some of these guys all hot and bothered. They will humor you for a while, then ignore you. It may serve you better to relax a little when someone points out the flaws in your logic, as @Prospekt, @ShootingStar159, @WiiGuy2014 did phenomenally well.

Anyway, there is a Season Premier, and a Series Premier. Though they are not completely disjoint, they have different definitions. Same with Season Finale and Series Finale.

The finales are not repetitive, but your OP seems to be focusing on only one element of the narrative instead of a comprehensive evaluation of all of the elements of style and storytelling functions. It's as pedestrian as suggesting that the finales are all the same because they have pastel ponies. There are elements that echo, so to speak, but the key variations are unique enough to allow each finale to stand on it's own.

Season 1 Finale - No Redemption

Season 2 Finale - No Redemption

Season 3 Finale - No Redemption

Season 4 Finale - No Redemption

Season 5 Finale - Redemption

Season 6 Finale - No main villain Redemption but species redemption

Season 7 Finale - Redemption, but arguably not Stygian's fault entirely and one half of him was not redeemed.

If it doesn't happen at least half the time is it accurate to call it a tradition?
