Hearts, Hooves and Mistletoe

By NathanW200

Cheese Sandwich sighed as he took in the excitement around him.  The following day was Hearts and Hooves Day and he had thrown a huge pre-Hearts and Hooves Day party in Neighagara Falls.  Although the party was a huge success it did nothing to improve his mood.  The heart shaped balloons and ‘kiss me’ signs only reminded him that the pony he cared about was not with him.  Actually, he doubted that she even knew of his feelings for her.  To be honest, he hadn’t even realized just how he felt about her until he had seen her a few weeks prior.  “Pinkie Pie,” he thought wistfully, “You grew into such a beautiful mare and a super duper party pony.  You would have loved this party.  I wish you were here with me now.  Instead, I will be spending yet another Hearts and Hooves Day bringing joy to other ponies while I myself am alone.”  The stallion’s usually bouncy mane and tail looked deflated and flat and his green eyes lacked their usual spark and excitement

Cheese’s gaze dropped to the ground in front of him and he absentmindedly poked at the dirt with his hoof as his thoughts drifted back to his trip to Ponyville a few weeks before.  When his Cheesy Sense had alerted him to a party in Ponyville, he had been thrilled to have a chance to show the mare who had inspired him just what a great party pony he had become.  However, he had been awestruck when he realized that the little pink filly had grown into a beautiful mare.  He hadn’t exactly been subtle with his feelings, but he had no idea if Pinkie knew how he felt or if she felt the same.  The stallion was planning on spending the rest of the evening wallowing in a self pity induced ice cream binge when an idea struck him.  Cheese leaped to his feet and his mane and tail regained their usual fluffiness as he made his decision.  He threw his rubber chicken onto his back excitedly.  “Alright Boneless 2,” he said as a determined look came over him, “We’re going back to Ponyville!  I have a plan…”

Meanwhile in her room at Sugar Cube Corner, Pinkie Pie was busily making preparations for the upcoming holiday.  She had quite a few Hearts and Hooves Day traditions and she looked forward to spreading smiles on the popular holiday.  However, this year she had to admit that something felt different.  As she prepared balloons, cards, confetti and streamers, she found that her mind kept drifting to a certain curly maned stallion.  The pink mare sighed and thought, “Forget it Pinkie.  You realized that you liked him too late.  There is no telling where he is now.  Besides, he probably isn’t interested in you anyway.  Hearts and Hooves Day has always been about making others smile and this year will be no different.”

Pinkie Pie glanced at the rubber chicken that sat next to her.  She picked it up and hugged it.  “Oh Boneless,” she said sadly, “Where is he now?  What is he doing?  I bet you miss him too.”  As she held Boneless away from her and gazed at the rubber chicken, she could envision the sparkling green eyes and friendly smile of the toy’s former owner.  The pink mare sighed again and sat Boneless down as she resumed her Hearts and Hooves day planning.  Although it was hard to push thoughts of Cheese Sandwich out of her mind, Pinkie did her best to focus on the preparations for the upcoming holiday.  One of her main goals in life was to make her friends smile, and she was going to focus on doing just that.

The next day, Cheese Sandwich looked around nervously as he strolled into Ponyville.  He had carefully thought out his plan on his trip from Neighagara Falls to Ponyville.  His plan was simple, find Pinkie Pie and tell her how he felt.  It couldn’t be that hard, right?  However, as he searched the town for the energetic pink mare, he feared that his nerves were going to get the best of him.  He hadn’t exactly made the best first impression the last time that he was in town.  He was contemplating hopping on the first train out of town when he spotted something out of the corner of his eye.  “Pinkie Pie?” the confused stallion asked as he looked up to the sky.  Pinkie was flying using some strange contraption unlike any that he had seen before.  It appeared to be constructed out of several kinds of candy and it seemed to stay in the air by four blades that spun quickly as the mare pedaled.  Cheese watched in wonder as she tossed hoof fulls of pink and red heart shaped confetti over the happy couples who were walking through Ponyville’s streets.

Pinkie was in mid confetti toss when she spotted Cheese Sandwich.  She stared in amazement when she realized that the stallion that she had dreamt about the night before was standing right in front of her.  She waved excitedly and hurried over to him as quickly as she could and she landed her contraption in front of the stunned stallion.  As usual, rather than carefully thinking before speaking, Pinkie said the first thing that came to her mind.  “Cheese!” she called out, “I can’t believe you’re here!   Happy Hearts and Hooves Day!  Want to help me spread a little lovey dovey cheer?  Its superly duperly fun and it will be even more fun if there are two of us trying to make everypony smile instead of just one!”

Cheese Sandwich’s nervousness was overtaken with excitement at the possibility of helping Pinkie spread cheer and smiles across Ponyville.  A wide grin spread across his face and he enthusiastically said, “Count me in!  Uh, what exactly is that flying thing?”  Pinkie giggled as she said, “Oh, this is what I call the Crazy Candy Copter!  This is the second version of it.  The first one kind of crashed but that’s okay because this one is waaaay better!  I even made this one with two seats so I can take somepony flying with me! ` It’s so hard to pedal and throw confetti at the same time so we’ll take turns with who pedals and who throws confetti and it will be so much fun like a giant all day smile spreading PARTY!  Come on Cheesy!  Let’s spread some Hearts and Hooves Day cheer!”

As Cheese Sandwich climbed into the backseat of the strange contraption he dreamily thought, “Cheesy.  She called me Cheesy.  Maybe she does like me!  Maybe…” His thoughts were interrupted by Pinkie shoving her confetti filled saddle bag at him and saying, “Okay, I’ll pedal and you throw confetti for awhile then we’ll switch!”  She smiled mischievously and asked, “You sure you’re ready for this?”  Cheese smiled broadly and said, “Sure as sharp cheddar!”  With that Pinkie started pedaling and the strange contraption took to the skies once more.  The two party ponies had a great time tossing confetti for each couple that they saw.  A few ponies were annoyed, but most of them laughed and several thanked the confetti tossers.

When it was his turn to pedal, it took Cheese Sandwich a little while to figure out how to properly run the Crazy Candy Copter.  However, once he got used to it he glanced back at Pinkie and said, “I’ve got to get me one of these!”  They threw confetti until Pinkie Pie’s seemingly bottomless saddlebags were empty.  Once they were out of confetti the two party ponies flew over to and landed in front of Sugar Cube Corner.  As she hopped off of the flying contraption Pinkie turned to Cheese and said, “Wow, that was way better than throwing confetti alone!  I’m super duper happy that you came to Ponyville today Cheese!  Because of the help I mean.  I’m glad to see you but not like I said I’m glad to see you because you’re a stallion and I’m a mare and then I said ‘oatmeal, are you crazy?”

Cheese Sandwich stared at the blushing mare for a moment.  She was the first pony who had managed to render him speechless since he had become a party pony.  However, his lack of power of speech was not just because of her confusing rambling.  It was also because he couldn’t get over how adorable she looked when she was blushing.  Pinkie was quickly able to get over her embarrassment and she said, “I have a lot more to do today.  Would you like to help me?  If you don’t that’s okay, but it will be fun!”  Cheese’s green eyes lit with excitement and he replied, “No, I wouldn’t like to help.  I would love to help!”  Pinkie giggled excitedly as she led him inside and showed him her balloon stash.

The party stallion’s eyes widened with amazement when he saw that most of Sugar Cube Corner was filled with balloons.  Several baskets full of cards in pink and red envelopes sat close to the door.  “So,” Pinkie explained, “Every year I put a Hearts and Hooves Day card in every mailbox in Ponyville, then I tie a balloon to the mailbox!  It’s easy, fun and it makes everypony smile!  I can only take so many balloons and cards at once, and with you to help I will be able to take twice as many cards and balloons per trip as I could last year which means that it will take less time and that means that more ponies will get their balloons and open their cards at the same time and that means that more ponies will be smiling in Ponyville at one time than at any one time in any Hearts and Hooves Day ever!”  She bounced up and down excitedly as she added, “It will be so much fun!”

Cheese Sandwich nodded enthusiastically and fidgeted excitedly as Pinkie tied balloons to him and tied a basket of cards to the top of his head.  The two curly maned ponies sang several songs as they traveled around the town and did their balloon and card delivery.  Cheese had enjoyed singing with Pinkie at Rainbow Dash’s birthaversary party and he enjoyed singing with her even more now.  As they traveled, he found that bouncing like Pinkie Pie did was great fun and the two ponies had a great time trying to bounce in unison.  The stallion had the time of his life as he helped his crush make everypony in the town smile.  He was having such a good time that he almost forgot what he wanted to tell Pinkie.  He grinned when he thought of the most fantastic way to tell her, but he knew that he needed to find the right time and place.  Thankfully, he didn’t have to wait very long.

Once they had finished up their balloon and card delivery Pinkie and Cheese went back to Sugar Cube Corner.  “Okay,” Pinkie said, “Now all we have to do is deliver a few cupcakes and we’re done.  Would you mind hauling the trampoline?”  Cheese had figured out that sometimes it was better not to ask questions.  Since his personality was much like Pinkie’s, he had greatly enjoyed every aspect of the day so far with the exception of nearly wrecking the Crazy Copter the first time he flew it so he smiled with anticipation as the trampoline was placed on his back.  Pinkie grabbed five boxes with a dozen heart shaped cupcakes in each and the two ponies headed out the door.

As Cheese had thought, it didn’t take long to learn why the pony launching device was necessary.  He soon learned that the boxes of cupcakes were for Pinkie’s closest friends; Princess Twilight, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack and Rainbow Dash.  Rainbow Dash was in her cloud house, so Pinkie used the trampoline to get one of the boxes of cupcakes up to her sky dwelling friend.  As could be expected, all five of her friends were very excited to receive their annual Hearts and Hooves Day presents from Pinkie.  When all five boxes had been delivered, the two party ponies tiredly made their way back to Sugar Cube Corner.  It was almost suppertime by the time that the curly maned duo reached the bakery.

Once they had stepped inside, Cheese Sandwich decided that it was time to put his plan into action.  He whipped out a bouquet of lollipops and asked, “Pinkie Pie, would you like to go have supper with me?  My treat of course.”  The pink mare was taken aback and she nodded her head quickly.  She couldn’t believe her luck – the stallion that she had a crush on was actually taking her out to dinner on Hearts and Hooves Day!  “Maybe he does like me!” she thought, “Maybe…”  Her thoughts were interrupted when Cheese asked her where she would like to eat.  She suggested a nice little diner that was just down the street that was simple yet had fantastic food.  The two ponies chatted the whole way to the diner and they chatted as they ate.  Since they were both quite random and they both could talk for hours about nothing there was not a quiet moment during their meal.

Once they had finished eating and they started walking back toward Sugar Cube Corner, Cheese finally decided to tell Pinkie how he felt.  However, being Cheese Sandwich meant that he had to do things a bit differently than most ponies.  “Pinkie?” he asked gently when they neared the bakery, “There’s something that I would like to tell you.”  She looked at him expectantly and to her surprise the stallion broke out into song.  She giggled when she heard him sing to a tune that she was quite familiar with:

“You’re more fun than the color pink

And the greatest party I could ever think

Don’t want to miss a moment don’t want to blink

When you’re right here with me

We can party forever, party together

We’re friends but I want to be more

I know this seems fast but I have to say

And sorry if I’m a bore

I want to party forever, party together

We’re friends but I want to be more

I know this seems fast but I want to say

You’re the one that I’ve fallen for

Pinkie you’re the one I’ve fallen for!”

Pinkie Pie struggled to hold back tears at his sweet little song.  How he knew about the song that she and the Apple Family had sang on their journey a few weeks prior was beyond her but she was too amazed to worry about that.  He liked her!  He actually liked her!  The pink mare’s heart was pounding in her chest as Cheese leaned close and asked, “I hope you liked your song and I hope it wasn’t too Cheesy for you.”  “Oh Cheese!” she said excitedly, “I’ve been trying to figure out how to tell you this all day!  I’ve missed you ever since you left Ponyville but I had no idea how to track you down and my Pinkie Sense didn’t help me find your Cheesy Sense and I didn’t know if you felt the same way that I do then you showed up today and we had so much fun together and I knew that I really liked you and then we had dinner and you feel the same way!  You like me too so that’s fantastic because that means that we both like each other and we got to go out together on Hearts and Hooves Day like a couple would but we didn’t even realize that we both felt this way about each other till now but it was still great but it’s even better now!  Like Rainbow Dash would say this…is…awesome!”

Cheese Sandwich was smiling from ear to ear.  She liked him!  She actually liked him!  His heart was pounding in his chest as he said, “Pinkie, I’ve missed you since the day I left Ponyville.  I wanted to tell you how I felt, but I didn’t think that there was any way that you would like me too because the last time I was here I all but took over your job.  That’s not what I was trying to do but that’s what happened and I didn’t think that there was any way that you could like me, you know, that way after everything that happened.  As Hearts and Hooves Day got closer though I just knew that I had to come and find out for myself if you liked me or not.  The fact that you do has me so excited that I feel like I’m going to explode!”

He paused for a moment and cleared his throat.  “Pinkie,” he said to the blushing mare, “Look, mistletoe.  Do you know what that means?”  The surprised party pony looked up to see that he had a sprig of mistletoe hanging from his curly forelock.  Pinkie Pie giggled and said, “What are you up to?  Mistletoe is for Hearth’s Warming silly!”  “Well,” he said, “I think that mistletoe has the same purpose throughout the rest of the year as it does at Hearth’s Warming.  I figured that it was at least worth a shot.”  Pinkie smiled at the stallion, who looked a little uncertain because she seemed to be hesitating.  She walked up so that she was a very short distance from his muzzle and said, “I think that is a cute idea and trust me when I say that I plan on hanging mistletoe everywhere next Hearts and Hooves Day.  And to answer your question, I know exactly what mistletoe means.”

With that she moved up and pressed her lips against his.  Both of their hearts were pounding harder than they ever had before.  For what seemed like an eternity but probably lasted only a moment, the two super duper party ponies of Equestria stood almost as though they were frozen in time.  The world had melted away in their minds and the only thing that either of them cared about was each other.  When they finally broke off the kiss, it took Pinkie and Cheese both a moment to recover.  Cheese Sandwich blinked a few times to free himself from the trance that their kiss had put him under and he was surprised to see Pinkie looking at him with a concerned expression.

“What’s wrong?” he asked worriedly, “Didn’t you enjoy it?”  “Yes, I did enjoy it,” she replied, “It was the most wonderful, fantastic most amazing thing ever!  It felt like there were fireworks going off all around me and inside of me and I felt like I was gonna explode!  The thing is though, what happens now?  We both like each other, but what will happen when you have to go back out on the road?  What happens when your Cheesy Sense tells you that there’s a party that needs you?”  Pinkie was surprised at the love and care that shined in Cheese’s green eyes.  Instead of the usual energy and enthusiasm that shined in them, the stallion’s eyes were soft and caring.  He gently slid his hoof under her chin and looked deep into her eyes.

“Pinkie,” he said, “I can’t guarantee what my Cheesy Sense will tell me but there’s one thing that I know for sure.  Nothing, not an attack of balloon animals, a malfunctioning party cannon, not even a shortage of candy and milkshakes could keep me away from you.  No matter where my Cheesy Sense takes me I will always be able to make time for the pony that I care about.  You are the pony who inspired me to become a party pony in the first place and now you are the pony who has stolen my heart.  I will always, always make sure that I make time to spend with you.”  The stallion brought his hoof to his chest and crossed his heart before holding his hoof up to his eye and saying, “I Pinkie Promise.”  Pinkie smiled back at him and said, “Swear on Camembert?”  Cheese nodded and said, “Swear on Camembert.”

Pinkie Pie brought her hoof up to his face and gently brushed it along his cheek.  In a voice that was barely more than a whisper she said, “I know it might be a little early to say this, but Cheese Sandwich, I love you.”  He smiled back at her and ran his hoof gently along her face as he looked deep into her eyes as he replied in a equally soft voice, “I love you too Pinkie Pie.”  The stallion pulled the mare close for another kiss.  As they…

“Hey, can we get a little privacy here?”

Uh, what?

“Yeah you Miss Writer!  You heard me!  Can’t we get a little privacy?”

Um, sure Pinkie.  I guess I’ll leave you two alone.  Well, thanks for the story.

“It’s okey-dokey-lokey!  Have a good evening!”

You as well and thanks, I think.  Well, I guess we’ll leave our two lovebirds here.  It’s appropriate really that our tale ends here with the two super duper party ponies; the unofficial king and queen of randomness, in love and kissing with the unusual combination of hearts, hooves, and mistletoe.

I didn’t write this, I just wanted to share and talk about it.

What section should it go in than

And probably Sugarcube Corner, since it’s still MLP related, but it’s about a fanfic you found and not the show.

Also maybe start your post off with “I didn’t write this, I just wanted to share and talk about it.” That way it’s not as confusing.

I didn’t write this, I just wanted to share and talk about it.

that's unofficial fanfic. You wrote that or you got it from a fanfic.
