Could Starlight Glimmer help 2 ponies if they wanted to exchange their cutiemarks permanently?

Like let's say that 2 ponies didn't like their cutie marks and wanted each other's because they thought it was cooler, could Starlight Glimmer, if she agreed, change those 2 cutiemarks permanently? We saw it momentarily done with Luna and Celestia, but not permanently. Would there be consequences? Could a cutiemark reject a host it is put on if it's on it for too long, kinda like blood? Could everything work out in the end, like if they're both pegasi/unicorns/earth ponies?

I don’t believe so. There’s a reason Starlight needed the cutie mark vault to store her villagers cutie marks. As we saw, they would automatically seek out and return to their owners. Cutie marks seem to be magically tied to their owners, and I don’t think there’s anything that can be done to change that.

But Celestia's and Luna's cutiemark was exchanged, why can't that be done, except permanently?

I think it's possible since in Magical Mystery Cure, Twilight managed to have the cutie marks of her friends changed and I think that would have been permanent if nothing was done about it. Starlight is particularly skilled in this area and she did need a place to store the cutie marks from her village, her goal was to remove them, not exchange them. Obviously this wouldn't work out for the two ponies because cutie marks are a result of destiny and special talent, so as much as they tried they wouldn't be happy and we'd get a nice lesson on you're find just the way you are, if Starlight were ever to agree to such a thing.

For the same reason Starlight couldn’t permanently replace someone’s cutie mark with the equal mark she created. Their cutie marks would find their way back to their owners. The fact that she couldn’t just swap Celestia and Luna’s marks at will backs this up, cutie mark Magic is more complicated than cntrl+x, cntrl+v.

The cutie mark magic in MMC makes zero sense though.

I think she could if she was mad enough. Her powers amplify based on how she feels... like a shonun main character.

Yeah, sure, I don't see why not.

Exactly what I thought, why not?

One random forum user agrees with you, and you take it as certain proof? XD

Well I disagree. Starlight’s spent her whole life learning ways to mess with cuties marks, and she still can only manage a spell that switches them for 24 hours. Reading Starswirl’s incomplete spell in MMC would have switched them permanently, but it wasn’t a true and clean power swap. None of the characters could actually control the new talents they were given, and it seemed to mess with their memories as well.

A spell might exist somewhere that could switch them permanently, but no one is aware of or currently capable of it. Discord might be capable of something like that, since swapping people’s magical identities could certainly fall under the realm of “chaos magic”, but modern Discord wouldn’t do it permanently.

And with Starlight, she probably wouldn’t do it for a couple of ponies again, even if she could. It turned out alright in the end, but swapping the Princesses’ cutie marks caused a lot of trouble and scared the crap out of her. She’d be more likely to try helping them see how wonderful their own special talents are.
