Thoughts on 4Chan

How do you guys feel about 4Chan and all the craziness they've brought to the Internet?

I'm gonna say that I don't have much of a problem with them since they make the world rather interesting. A lot of the things they do can be quite entertaining. I don't go there myself, but I've heard of them and seen what they can do.

How about you? Love them? Hate them? Don't care?

Due to controversy and the nature of 4Chan, I should say that we should try not to go too crazy in this thread. It is completely understandable if mods shutdown the thread if they feel the need to do so.

I will admit, ive been to the site a few times. I went to the paranormal board just out of curiosity. Alot of what I saw next was just shock humor. Like...if Howard Stern was a website. So far, I barely care about them. I havent seen anything where 4chan was praised. Most reports on the website concludes to malicious behavior.

It's such a headache. I've met numerous people, usually in the 13-16 age range who think the way people act on 4Chan should be the norm for all message boards - as in, being incredibly rude, selfish and abrasive to others. I had a whole rant typed up but I'd rather not post it given the bolded text in the OP.

Other then that, I'm a paranormal enthusiast so I used to browse /x/. Most of the stuff there is lame, boring or just bad horror stories but there were some gems. Admittedly now I just look up /x/ compilations now so I don't have to wade through the gross smut and unoriginal stories to find gems.

This reference might go past some of you, but if the early days of internet message boards were Woodstock, then 4Chan is Altamont.

I'm not even really sure how to characterize it beyond that, but it feels like it's managed to capture most if not all of the bad elements of the internet in one place.

I heard that it was because of 4chan making fun of Friendship is Magic in its early days that led to people being curious enough to check out the show. Whether intentional or not, 4Chan contributed to the Popularity of the show.

I lurk on 4chan just a bit almost every day in my downtime. Post a lot less than I used to. It's a pretty great place for uncensored discussion on all types of topics, so long as you have a think enough skin to deal with mean words from internet strangers, as well as the ability to stomach the occasional shock post.

When it comes to /pol/, the board which it is most infamous for, it is dying. Much like how a bee dies after stinging, /pol/ is dying due to becoming infected with Reddit both during and after the 2016 election.

If you want to post on 4chan, there are a few things that you should know.

  1. There is always something more fucked up than what you just saw.
  2. Never claim something to be true without proofs or arguments.
  3. OP is always a [Naughty Word Redacted].

Follow these rules and you should have a decent time.

As for my personal opinion on 4chan, I hate it with every fiber of my being and I want off the ride.

4Chan doesn't bother me, and I don't bather 4Chan. I do admit to checking things out once in a while. I've seen things that while funny, would get me permanently banned if I even hinted about them here!

I thought that fame is reserved for /b/ ?

That used to be the case. /b/ used to be the board where you would go to laugh at edgy jokes and see fucked up stuff, but as most things do, it degraded over time and now is little more than a porn board tbh. They still have YLYL and Rekt threads which would be entertaining for newcomers, but /gif/ is far better for that imo.

Anyone who goes to /b/ based off what they heard from old stories is in for a crushing disappointment. Unless they're into trap porn, in which case they have found the holy land.

So /b/ is Safe For Live nowadays?

No, it's not. Don't listen to what anyone says. It's full of smut still, I wouldn't advise to go on there.

Noooooooooooooooooo no no no no no no no. What I meant was that it's no longer the infamous board that did shit like Chanology or large scale raids on other websites. Like @TheTaZe said, it's still full of smut, and still more than capable of mentally scarring you.

I've never visited 4Chan personally. However, a good friend of mine always invites me to pick a team for the 4Chan Cup each season. Admittedly, it's gotten to the point where I have two teams that I always pick depending on the season and watch them play. I don't even like soccer.

Ah, my sweet homeland.

Definitively not the place for you guys.

As the fandom has been dying /mlp/ has turned far more wholesome than any other dedicated pony site. We are fewer everyday, thus people is leaving behind their tough dude facade behind. However, the nsfw antics are not lesser than before.

Great place if you have the emotional intelligence to be there. If you get easily angry at anyone disagreeing with you, stay away and never peek in.
