Before 2003, the only way people could get their songs from the Internet were P2P websites, like Napster. To fight this illegal activity, Apple introduced the iTunes Store, allowing people to download songs at a price of a dollar apiece.

Here's the question: How many of you do it the latter way, and how many of you still do it the old way?

I may have dabbled in a little nefarious activity, back in the day, but the speed of dial-up kinda hindered getting LOTS of stuff (I remember leaving the modem hooked up overnight to get a 120mb Half-Life update and having to wake up in the middle of the night to check, PC still on and modem online)

I ripped all my CD's and even some LP's into MP3's (hell, go back far enough I was copying cassettes and ripping VHS onto cassette :derp:)

More recently after buying CD's through Amazon they "gifted" me digital copies of those albums in Amazon Music, so theres a bit of music there, otherwise its on the NAS box and SD card in my car stereo.

...there may still be a an odd tune or two that gets saved from yt :lie:

My awesomeness is only second to my modesty B)

Early 00's (Windows 98 Computer)

  • CD's
  • Kazaa.
  • Record songs off of cd's with software that came with a sound card (similar to Audacity)
  • convert to Mp3 with some weird free software I don't remember the name of.

Mid 2000's (Windows XP computer)

  • CD's
  • LP's (Records) I would record, edit, and convert songs off some of my Dad's records that I couldn't get elsewhere.
  • Sony connect
  • iTunes- to buy songs and convert CD's.

2010's to now (windows 7 and Windows 10)

  • CD's
  • LP's - I have bought a couple- but for use as wall art ^_^ I do have two turntables I got for free recently, but I don't use them much.
  • iTunes- to buy songs and convert CD's
  • Bandcamp
  • Audacity- To record songs off of YouTube that are unavailable anywhere (Legal) for download.

Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension

For those who are wondering, Twilight is chewing bubble gum.
