Spoiler

I was a bit skeptical about a stylized cartoon movie that has to juggle six different spider heroes but this movie exceeded my expectations. Best animated film I've seen in a long time. Every character gets a balanced amount of screen time and there is just the right mix of humor and drama. Although I'm pretty sure this movie was a backdoor way of justifying live action spinoffs of Spider Gwen, Spider Noir, etc. Also looks like we'll be seeing a Spiderman 2099 movie in the not too distant future.

If you told me earlier in the year that Sony would finally have a great Spider-Man film that is on par or greater than Spiderman 2, I would have called you crazy. This was a great animated film, a amazing (pun intended) Spidey flick, and probably one of the best love letters to Spidey fans. So many hidden nods to the history of Spider-Man that made me smile ear to ear. I finally have a universe where Mary Jane is still in a relationship with Peter. I also loved the voice cast in this film, and Lily Tomlin as Aunt May isn't getting enough praise. She was funny as hell. Also, Ghost Spider (Gwen) being a legit character who can now be placed in a live action film and generate real buzz is something I never thought I would see.

Can you go in with little to no knowledge about Spider-Man and still enjoy it?

As someone whose only real experience with Spider-Man content would be that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and bits and pieces from pop cultural osmosis, I was able to get really invested into the film.  So yeah, I think that you would be able to enjoy the movie even without knowing very much about Spider-Man if you are someone who enjoys watching Superhero movies.

Probably not as much, it is a bit heavy on the lore. I'd say at least watch the first two live action Spiderman (Tobey McGuire) movies before you see this one.

This movie is amazing, and the best Spiderman movie by far. And definitely one of my favorite movies of this year. Even from just a visual and audio standpoint, this movie is breathtaking, and the leap of faith scene is jawdropping. I've never seen a CGI movie with this kind of unique look before, and the way they took advantage of the medium was incredible. Something like this couldn't be done nearly as well with live-action. Not to mention that the story was good too, especially with the relationship between Miles Morales and his father. It was very well-done (honestly, Miles whole family was great), and I appreciated it a lot.

I also loved that at the end, it was Miles on is own. It was really powerful seeing Miles come into his own and not having to rely or share the spotlight with the rest of the main cast, and it was just great.

I could gush on and on about this movie, but, like, just go watch it if you haven't. You won't be disappointed.

Definitely. It explains everything, and while there may be some easter eggs or things you'd appreciate more with context, the movie stands on its own and is worth the watch.
