Do todays' kids hate old school cartoons?

Depends on what you define as "old". There's really no way to answer this unless you clarify

Cartoons like Looney Tunes, Jonny Quest, the Flintstones.

Oh, yeah those aren't very good

Define 'aren't very good', like they aren't good examples, or they aren't good shows?

Sorry I was being facetious. To answer your question, I don't think kids hate "old" cartoons at all... if they watch cartoons, they're probably more modern ones. They wouldn't necessarily have access to or care about cartoons like those.

Why? Why is it that they only want to watch new stuff?

Because that's what's available. When I was growing up they had time slots devoted to tom and jerry for example, so at times I'd watch lots of that kind of thing. I don't know if they still do that. There's plenty of newer cartoons on netflix and hulu, maybe some old ones too, but I didn't notice them- I'm not sure if there are any or not. Kids grow up on different shows... I'm sure my dad grew up watching the jetsons or whatever. I grew up watching courage the cowardly dog and chowder. It's not about "hating" older shows it's more about what's contemporary to you.

I don't think they even know most of the old cartoon to even begin to either love it or hate it. Unless it's an old cartoon that is still ongoing.

Pretty sure they don't know about them because they aren't on the air anymore. Cartoon Network has canned Boomerang. Both Nick and Disney are too busy either milking their active franchises to death or going the live action route to air any classics. And TV is on it's way out anyways, so there's little incentive to show old material to a new audience.

Most pre-90s cartoons weren't that great. Low budget. Wooden acting. Generic stories. Half the time they were glorified advertisements. I'm not a fan of Titans Go. But four to eleven year old me would've preferred that over the Super Friends.

And the 'good' stuff probably would be deemed unsuitable for kids anyways. Back then cartoons were for theater going adults.  Looney Toons and Tom & Jerry were very violent. The humor was a little racy. And both wouldn't be considered 'politically correct' by today's standards.

Even a good natured short like this probably wouldn't make air due to how realistic the violence is depicted.

So no, I don't think kids today hate old cartoons. They either don't know or don't care they exist. If anything, it's the parents who hate the old cartoons, either due to their low quality and blatant marketing or due to being too violent and mature.

I'm an adult, and I would rather play video games than watch cartoons these days too. TV just doesn't offer much anymore and it's especially kids who would rather watch something new over something old. It's not "hate", that's just the way kids are, yet to become old, cynical, and stuck in their old patterns from the past. :maud:

You can't really summarise a whole generations opinion on a subject that large. Plenty of kids watches and enjoy older cartoons and plenty of kids don't. The reasons for why they like/don't like older cartoons are highly individual and almost every kid has his/her own.

It seems most kids of today are conforming drones that have little interest in anything that doesn't have Fortnite in its title.

You aren't giving today's kids enough credit. The children of this generation is just as unique as any other. You can't just write them of as "conforming drones" because a large group of them share a common interest.

Also there's always a fad that that a large group of children is a fan of. Today it's Fortnight, before that it was Star Wars and before that it was working in the coal mines and dying before your 13th birthday.

People too often embrace what's going on in the present moment and reject anything outdated as something bad. No matter what generation you care to examine, from the 1900s to present, kids often seem to reject anything that came before as something quaint, antiquated and uncool. If you took kids who loved Looney Tunes back in the 1940s, erased their memories and transplanted them in the 2000s, they'd probably look back at those classic cartoons and suddenly consider them quaint, antiquated and uncool. Why is it that every generation only seems to love what it grows up with and reject almost everything else? It's a matter of following a trend and not giving a fair chance to something older just because it is old. Old doesn't necessarily equate to bad any more than new necessarily equates to good. See it for what it is and judge it all fairly. And now in this age of the internet, everything is available, so no one can really say they can't find the older stuff if they want it.

It’s generational gap. We are now getting to that age where we are no longer th “current” generation so to us everything this generation does is “stupid” or “not as good” as ours. It’s the same principle that made our parents find most of our interests as shit.

There’s not much incentive to watch TV these days, as there’s not much variety in cartoons compared to before. It doesn’t help that unlike said time of my youth, there’s absolutely no exposure of older cartoons, while up to the mid-2000s, you could still see the occasional Flinstones, or the real Tom & Jerry ad at least.

Granted, Hanna Barbera shows aged horribly, even at my times,  but like I wrote, it may be mostly the lack of cartoon demand these days

To be honest, unless  they are some spoiled suck ups that only want to watch the latest shows, then no.

The old shows will always be the classics like Pink Panther, Johnny Bravo, and of course, Tom and Jerry.

And yeah, that's the newer generation, all they do is play video games and miss on all the classic cartoons which I don't see as lame.

I have two young cousins (10 and 12) who love old cartoons like Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Yogi, etc. They watch and like some of the newer cartoons also.

If people tried forcing kids to work in the coal minds nowadays, they'd be arrested for child abuse... and probably executed.
