I have very mixed feelings on the movie's animation style. I like the basic idea of the Don Bluth influenced flowing movement but the whole thing just felt really confused. The backgrounds and 3D objects were often garish and badly rendered, and the ponies' movements themselves were alternately too stiff and too exaggerated. Seemed like the film often used bizarre facial expressions as a crutch to compensate for the lack of good jokes in the script.

Hopefully this special has a little more discipline and maybe a brighter color pallet.
