@A.V. Strong doubt it will, just have a feeling MLP's in good hands. 

Or maybe I'm just too optimistic. 

Considering a bunch (if not practically all) of current fans will probably tune in to at least the first episode, if it's good/intriguing enough, then I'm sure it will grant a pretty huge fanbase, especially considering how good Hasbro is with toy sales.

Until we have definitive information, it's hard to judge. One thing is guaranteed: G5 will be saddled (hyuk hyuk) with comparisons to G4; that will make it more difficult for G5 to forge its own path without upsetting a vocal contingent of G4 fans.
