The message that this episode is trying to convey is an important one, and there is merit in the attempt.

But, as an episode it's just kind of a nothing burger.

The Mane 6 are forced to act less knowledgeable and experienced than they are by this point in the series, just for this rather dull plot to work.

The episode isn't really that funny, or touching, or scary, or sad, or original or much of anything else for that matter.

The slice of life spark for which FIM is justly remembered and cherished was not much in evidence here.

I have to remind myself that a normal day in Season 9  would have been taking place in the middle of a Golden Age, of a Halcyon of pluralism and peace.

Still, even allowing for that, this episode was just kind of a bore.

I'm typically not a difficult critic but this one very, very gently fell flat with me.
