CastletonSnob 3,078 July 31, 2019 Share July 31, 2019 (edited) Why is there such a stigma against MLP? If you tell people you're an adult who likes Transformers, they'll think you're a manchild at worst. If you tell people you're an adult male who likes MLP, they might think you're a pedophile. I share @CypherHoof's point of view on this matter. If I discovered the show now, even I maybe wouldn't like it Its not my point of view, but it is the reality of the prejudice you will encounter. Transformers is quite a bit deeper than it looks - I think the sheer size of the extended universe pretty much requires it. I am not massively fond of it, but I *do* acknowledge it is a lot bigger than its original goal of selling plastic toys.(But my memories of what I saw during childhood don't really match that) MLP has three prior generations to live down though; those weren't always terrible, but weren't really attractive to an adult audience. A lot of adults are judging FiM fans based on their memories of the toy marketing, and I am late to the fandom myself, because I dismissed the early seasons of FiM based on memories of the earlier works. It was purely by chance that I looked at it at all (I bought a "unicorn" for a friend who was feeling down, and of course it was Twi and came with wings. Trying to find out why, led me to start watching) The fact is, those early seasons of FiM had good writing, "sticky" characters, were significantly more anthro than prior gens, and except for the occasional turkey, leave you wanting to find out more. To what extent that continued as we approach the final episodes is debatable, although I do feel some of the writing in later seasons was the best in the entire series (but then, I am biassed by prior knowledge; without being invested in the final triumph of the CMC, the final revelation of Bright mac and pear butter and so forth, I don't know that the episodes that featured those would have been AS gripping as they were) 1 ᚾᛖᚹ ᛚᚢᚾᚨ ᚱᛖᛈᚢᛒᛚᛁᚴ - ᚦᛖ ᚠᚢᚾ ᚺᚨᚦ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᛞᛟᚢᛒᛚᛖᛞ

My theory is that people who got into the show as a kid will tend to grow out if it and grow up. Whereas an adult who got into the show is already established that he/she isn't going to grow up and will always like cartoons. I definitely fall into the later category. I love cartoons, games, and fun stuff. I liked cartoons yesterday, I like them today, and I will probably like them tomorrow, and it has always been that way. Maybe never having a girlfriend has something to do with it, but I dodged a bullet there. As for it being acceptable to like Transformers because it is for boys, I present to you Michael Bay's Transformers. MLP could have done worse, so count your blessings. 1 This is my new signature. Oh I definitely still like cartoons. Looney Tunes and the like and adult ones like King of the Hill, American Dad, etc. And I got into the MLP fandom not necessarily as a little kid but a teenager but still I feel I'm slipping out of it a little. I don't think I'll drop it completely but I'm less into as I was as far as watching episodes over and over. The Tractor Pulling Brony "2 years long, and still pulling strong" Thank you to everyone! His budget for on-set catering was probably higher than the entire production budget for the MLP movie though... and the MLP movie was visually stunning. Just think what they could have done with a decent budget and a sane scriptwriting team? ᚾᛖᚹ ᛚᚢᚾᚨ ᚱᛖᛈᚢᛒᛚᛁᚴ - ᚦᛖ ᚠᚢᚾ ᚺᚨᚦ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᛞᛟᚢᛒᛚᛖᛞ

lua 106 July 31, 2019 Share July 31, 2019 Gender roles, and the fact that the show is targeted at a younger audience and people believe that it means the people who like it are pedophiles, also because theres a small minority of people in the fandom who do horrible things and thats what people pick out no alarms, and no surprises. AJ2489 2,855 July 31, 2019 Share July 31, 2019 It is a shame people aren't more open minded and are so quick to judge but theres no point losing sleep about it. You'll never stop social stigma (wether true or untrue) from occurring so why drive yourself mad trying to. Just live and let live, surround yourself with likeminded people who don't criticise you for your interests and hobbies! P.S Have a great day! Brony Number 42 10,071 July 31, 2019 Share July 31, 2019 It's not just MLP, it is "geek" stuff in general. The feeling I get is if you are an adult then you see supposed to be married, have kids, and become boring. It's ok to like 1 or 2 things a litte. But if you are single and like video games, cartoons, comics, and stuff like that then people really look down on you. This is my new signature. RDDash 19,195 July 31, 2019 Share July 31, 2019 I grow up watching Sailor Moon as kid, it's extremely girly show by the way. The basic message is please get used to it if the general public having an issue with you watching a girly show meant for little girls, or something.

I was like, "I don't really see a problem with this", but then I went down into comments for the video and that's where the real stuff was. I am a Brony today, maybe because we are actually liking the show. It is proof that we are still here after all the time that has passed since the crazy days. But most Bronies left after it wasn't a "hot topic" anymore. The comments in the video reflected on how much everyone wanted to be on a strong side, to be together, to change the world for the better. And then there was the haters on the other side (which I didn't really care much about what they said). It was a battle, and you could hear it all over the internet (I tried to not hear it and watch MLP instead, boring me). But you sum it up pretty much what I think the haters said in those comments. Oh, and I am a big MJ fan. The newest documentary "Leaving Neverland" pretty much destroyed all hope that he is not a pedophile. Still during that whole documentary, I never got any indication that he watched MLP or played with little girl's toys. Makes you think huh? Walt Disney himself believed that everyone young and old should enjoy Animation. To qoute what he said about making Animated Films: "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway." What he's talking about is that you don't have to be in a young demographic to enjoy something that's animated.
