The Hitchhiker's Guide to Friendship-Criticism, ideas, and thoughts PLEASE!

PLEASE GIVE ME CRITICISM AND IDEAS. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME DOING A FANCOMIC NOT ONLY FOR MY OWN AMUSEMENT, BUT FOR YOURS AS WELL. SO I'D LIKE AS MUCH HELP AS I CAN GET SO I CAN MAKE AT AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE. 'KAY?

Being a huge fan of Douglas Adams, as well as FiM, it was only a matter of time before I decided to put the two together. Originally I thought I'd write it into a regular old fanfic, but then decided my writing style wouldn't really work for that sort of thing, so I decided to go the fancomic route instead, I'm thinking of making the ponies anthropomorphic, simply because it'd be easier to draw some characters, particularly Zaphod Beeblebrox, who has two heads and three arms, but I'm slightly more experienced in drawing them in the "traditional" style.

For those not not familiar with The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy series, Wikipedia's article is quite accurate, so you can check that out if you want. It'll be basically just a ponified version of the HHGTtG in terms of the general flow of the story, but with a few plot differences and added events taking place that were not in the actual series. There will be no humans, only ponies and other species. I have figured out most of the ponies that would replace characters, but I need help on others.

Main Characters

Arthur Dent-Twilight Sparkle: Both constantly trying (and failing) to make sense of just what the hell is going on.

Ford Prefect-Pinkie Pie-Both clearly stand out from the rest of what is supposedly from the same planet.

Zaphod Beeblebrox ("President of the Galaxy")-Rainbow Dash: Both extremely cocky and tend to put themselves before others.

Trillian-Fluttershy?: Not sure about this one, only thinking it because I think that rabbits should be in MLP what mice are in the Hitchhiker's Guide series (due to Angel being seemingly much more intelligent that the other animals, maybe even a few of the ponies).

Marvin (The Paranoid Android)-Spike: both are essentially slaves. But I'm thinking of making him be more passive-aggressive than clinically depressed.

Minor Characters

Vogons-Celestia/Luna and their royal guards and/or maybe other political figures of Equestria?: Both heartless meanie-bo-beanies (Celestia) and equally heartless bureaucrats (political figures)

Mice-Rabbits: As I mentioned before, Angel seems to be more intelligent than the other animals, and even some ponies, as well.

Slartibartfast-???

Eccentrica Gallumbits (The Triple-Breasted Whore of Eroticon Six)-Mrs. Cake: Do you really have to ask? Be honest.

others-???

Ect...

Alcohol-Muffins

others-???

Any ideas for changes/additions to original to pony changes would be very much appreciated.

I will post sketches and concept art as soon as I can get our scanner to work (I fail at computer art)

...That's all I can think of at the moment.

AGAIN, I'D LIKE TO REQUEST HELP, I'VE ASKED FOR YOUR THOUGHTS AND HELP ON THINGS BEFORE, BUT NEVER HAS ANYONE RESPONDED-I SEE THE VIEW COUNT GO UP, SO I KNOW PEOPLE ARE SEEING THE PAGE, BUT THEY JUST DON'T ANSWER. PLEASE, DO NOT HOLD BACK ON CRITICISM EITHER, AS IT IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET BETTER. SERIOUSLY, MAN, I'M DESPERATE-as evidenced by my excessive use of the magic of CAPS LOCK, boldness, and large sizes.

well it's just that you gave each character in the hitch hiker's a character to mirror them from mlp

and usually (or at least as far as i've seen) people then ask for other's to act like those character's

Oh. I just wanted to show what I had so far and see if anyone had anyone thought if the ones I had were appropriate or not and/or had suggestions.

well for one thing you could say fluttershy is trillion because they are both sweet and gentle (well most of the time)

other then that all i could say is to make a continuation of the original hitch hiker's so your not just telling the same story over again but in pony form (it would get boring after a while)

Found these emptying out my backpack!-school ended yesterday (yay)

Twilight Sparkle, Spike, Rainbow Dash, and Mrs. Cake are the first four ponies I found HHGTtG version for after failling multiple times on a Rule 63'd Twilight I tried the other three.

So how're these? Any suggestions/criticisms?

*notes* a) I forgot the 3rd arm (5th leg?)and (almost) the 2nd head.

B) I suck at wings, so RD's look pretty weird.

c) I spent less than a minute on Mrs. cake since I felt so weird drawing her in that clothing. XD

Still looking for a page... Ah, what the hell, I'll just do it tommorow, when I can focus and take my time instead of hiding them in my pocket and and drawiong while teacher isn't looking.

Also, should I use the ponies actual name, the HHGTtG charcter they're representing, or some sort of mix?

well i feel like you just redrew the character's

i dont' see them as the character's of H.G.T.T.G.

what make's them unique? so that i can recognize them as the characters?

That's one of the difficulties I'm having with this. I'm thinking had another picture of Spike/Marvin once which looked a lot more Marvin-ey but I threw it away-(I do that a lot with the stuff I draw in class). my RD/Zaphod has a second head, Zaphod-ish hair (according to the lame movie, I always imagined THAT'S how his hair should look. So I tried for that style.) and I forgot the 3rd arm (5th leg?),and-(this is canon, so please don't report this) and if this were an adult work, I would draw him with two penises, like stated in the in the interview with the cast of the original BBC TV series. As for Mrs. Cake/Eccentrica-I think the her clothing and excessive makeup speak for itself.

In the comic I plan to make them more like the characters they're based on, but more exaggerated, as I also plan it to be more-how shall I put this... "louder" than the original, because that's just how I roll...er, I mean draw.

before I begin, what do you think would be an appropriate to play Mr.Prosser (the fat, middle aged, fur-hat wearing man from the local council who attempted to bulldoze Arthur's house-and did, right before Earth was destroyed) as he appears a lot/only in the first chapter-first few in the actual book.

wait are you just doing the story in pony form?

No, that'd be sooooooooooo boring! It covers the main plot has the same kind of flow, but it also stands independently, having different/more events take place and it's own charm. I'd still like most characters to make an appearance/role too though. However, Mr. Prosser is COMPLETELY necessary since he place a large role at the beginning and without him there'd be a huge gap in the storyline and it'd make no sense. So who should he be ponied?

No. It follows the storyline-bulldozer,booze, destroyed, earth boomboom, hitchhikin', etc... but still be individual.containing much more than just swapped characters, I mean how boring would that be, you know?

First suggestion? Use a smaller font, scrolling blows.

How serious are you about this project? ie: are you drawing this on binder paper or do you want it to look professional?

I agree. It blows very much. I just wanted to make sure people would see that before they went away, because every time I post a topic asking for criticism, NOBODY replies. It's like they're afraid to criticize. That's the purpose of Creative Resources-to help one improve!

How serious are you about this project?

(To be honest, I'm a little offended by this statement, but I know you didn't to do that on purpose)

Serious enough that I'll be giving it my best effort throughout.

I am currently drawing an early version of the first chapter on copy paper (I would use better paper than that but it's too big to run through the scanner)

By "binder paper" do you mean lined paper? I may be an amateur at comics, (comic art, I'm good at) but I know that lined paper sucks for drawing. I'm not striving for it to look perfectly professional, but at the same time, I want it to look really good as well

Sorry, could have sworn it was in everfree... anyways

Do you have pens to ink?

Additionally have you worked out the flow of the comic in some sort of thumbnail/wire frame layout?
