I don't even know what Duck Duck Go is. :dash:

Its a different search engine, they claim that they dont share any of your private info to anyone so its harder for targeting ads and stuff

Usability is a very important factor. It's harder to find results in non-english languages in DuckduckGo. It also is really bad in showing new topics. It feels like it takes them at least a week (or so) to update most recent news and topics. If I seriously need important information, I end up still using Google. Or the reverse image search. I use DuckDuckGo mostly for simple searches or to get other (not manipulated) results. I think both sites are going well hand in hand. :)

I use DDG and I quite like it. Does not store anything so it's a bit less privacy invading that Google is. It's not perfect and lacks many features but if there's something you don't want to get ads for (weird porn for example), use DDG.

I think it's at least safer than Google or Bing, in the sense that I believe their word on not storing identifiable information on you. However, a lot of the sites they link to will still use Google analytics and other trackers, so even though the search term itself is more obscure to Google, whatever you end up viewing is still going to end up known to them. My go-to approach online is that several companies will know what you're doing no matter what. If you want to make it slightly harder for them, use things like VPNs and ad-blockers and Ghostery or something similar. True anonymity online is a bit of a pipe dream, I think.

While I am not sure what it blocks aside from FB obviously, there are "container" addons for firefox and likely other browsers.

I use those quite a bit, myself, but ultimately I doubt that anything I do online is ever really private. I don't really care, though, since I'm not the one who has to program the algorithms to make sense of it all, and I block most ads so it's not like they're turning a huge profit on me.
