Snuggly Boi 3 April 20, 2020 #1 Share April 20, 2020 Personally, I really enjoyed the movie style animation, and I wouldn't mind seeing more movie-style animation in shorts or perhaps even generation five. I'm interested as to what everyone else thinks of the movie animation, and if you would like to see more of it elsewhere?

Splashee 28,564 April 20, 2020 #5 Share April 20, 2020 Sadly, I have to go with a big no. I have been against the movie style since forever. But I would like to state why: What I consider a Brony to be, is some male in their teenage years, watching cartoons without telling anyone. Stumbles across a show called Friendship is Magic, which has this style: Everything about this show tells us, we males shouldn't watch this. It is a cartoon for girls. What do you explain if your parents or your older brother/sister walks in, as you just paused this frame? Quite simple actually... This episode "Dragonshy" is genius and will make anyone want to watch MLP, even your parents. It's funny (hilarious at times). But most likely, it is the cool designs that Lauren Faust worked so hard for, to please anyone that watched them (not just 8 year old girls, but 30 year old men as well). They are super cool. They are super cute. And they are absolutely perfect (you will agree, else you wouldn't be here). You can just respond proudly, I am watching MLP, and then continue (push the play button), as if it was nothing. And they would probably watch for a while and then mind their own business. Then of course, later you would find your dad watching the first episode in the middle of the night. Now the problem is this... What would you explain if your parents or your older brother/sister walks in, as you just paused this frame? Now, you do have a problem. This Move along with its designs are really meant to be for little girls. If you don't have the main show to back you up about being a Brony, you will most likely be sent to a psychiatrist. Most creatures in the main show are designed to look cool, and fit all ages. In the Movie however, when the Mane 6 are traveling though the desert city of Klugetown, they meet a lot of odd creatures, which are designed for toddlers. They are not cool looking. You are of course allowed to like the Movie, and might see these scenarios differently than me. I can tell you that I love the backgrounds and the music of the Movie! But the ponies have a lot of faults in their designs, that I could go on forever about.... too much random glitter in eyes (mommy I want to be a princess, more glitter please!), sea shell shapes ears (mommy, I want to be a mermaid, etc), horns that are shaped like that thing you find in mommy's drawer. I also have an issue with the story of the Movie, especially how a declared Princess of Friendship, can make such a crime of stealing the pearl. You don't get to become a princess, without first learning basic rules.
Odyssey 5,716 April 21, 2020 #6 Share April 21, 2020 Yes and no. I liked the animation, but I don't care for the art style. I do understand why the pony designs were tweaked so that the animation can be as fluid as it can be, but I personally prefer the show's designs as is.

Stardust Live 44 June 6, 2020 #9 Share June 6, 2020 I really liked the style on the Princesses and Tempest! I don't think it really made the main ponies look too good, those big sparkly googly eyes ...

Landi 600 August 21, 2020 #15 Share August 21, 2020 Well, to be honest...not really. I definitely prefer the show-style. I would say that the movie-style has good backgrounds, but the character models are unappealing to me. The eyes are to sparkly, the wings look kinda weird, and I'm not a big fan of the face shape. If there was some way to combine the show-style character models with the movie-style backgrounds it would be great. Overall, I'd say the show-style is better. 3 "Here we are, don't turn away now, We are the warriors that built this town" - Imagine Dragons

Stardust 641 September 3, 2020 #18 Share September 3, 2020 I liked the movie style it felt more anime kinda, the shading is cool and the movement of the characters had a different more flowing feel to it.
Splashee 28,564 September 3, 2020 #19 Share September 3, 2020 Not even after being starved on ponies for months. The style was as interesting as G3 was. I just don't see it
Ittoni 538 September 12, 2020 #20 Share September 12, 2020 Yes and no. The target audience if the movies is a lot more directed towards girls. It's girlier. And that doesn't really appeal to me. Though I do like the flow of the lines, it's fantastic, but the designs are not really my thing with those even bigger eyes with glitter, the very rounded shapes, the very full cheeks, aside of course of the general feel to it. So if it has that fluid awesome animation I'm in but the designs and the girlier feel to it really puts me off.

JMTV99 1,353 May 14, 2021 #23 Share May 14, 2021 Never seen the 2017 movie, so I can't really say my opinion on it, but I do admit, the 2017 art style looks very nice. As much as I prefer the Lauren Faust style a lot more, I don't mind seeing more of the 2017 look.
Astralshy 26,678 May 14, 2021 #24 Share May 14, 2021 I've seen the show and the 2017 movie and I really like this style as much as the style of show. It's different but nonetheless fitting and cute. Therefore I really would not mind to see more of the new style :)
