Closet Bronies UNITE: Experiences and Discussion

I'm a closet brony... Or pegasister, I guess. I haven't told anyone except my best friend. Not even my family knows.

In all honesty, I'm not even a very geeky person. This is actually the first fandom I've had any involvement in since Pokemon, and that was a really long time ago.

My family would most likely think I have some serious psychological issues and my friends would absolutely disown me if they knew. It's really like I live a double life. I'm a very social and socially conscious person, no one has ever called me a "nerd", "geek", etc. and all of the social pressure in my life is tearing me apart, so I watch MLP when I'm alone because it's emotionally nurturing.

I like the show. I've seen every episode multiple times and I even want to go to Bronycon, but what really made me part of the community was the "love and tolerance". I feel like I can truly be who I really am, and I can't describe how much that means to me.

Sorry if tl;dr

Are you a Public Brony or a Closet Brony?Reply to this topic! I personally am a Closet Brony I've told few friends. wacko.png

Edit: Oh and those friends are also Bronies! laugh.png

One time is that my mom was in the same room, and I passed by the hub on my cable box and had MLP Fim recording. She then said "You watch My little pony?"and I said yes I do watch the show." she was fine with that. so my mom knows

Uhh, I'm a closet brony, although my friends are great they still have a jock-ish mentality that I used to have... So telling them would not turn out well. I don't have the need to tell anyone else :s

Neither. I've never told anyone that I'm a brony because the subject never comes up, but I'm also open to discuss it with anyone who asks.

I'm more of a closet brony for some reasons. Main reason I'm is probably the amount of kids who try and act "cool" by talking behind peoples back and things, to be honest, if you looked at how they dressed and talked you'd laugh. For the second reason? I've heard many of them say My Little Pony is some gay "***"

I've told some people who I really shouldn't of and who don't really care about a "friends" reputation at school.

And the only other people who know I'm a brony is if they ever find my soundcloud, deviantart, or youtube page which is impossible :D

Well, telling people you are a brony can help you see who is really your friend and who's not.

A true friend will accept you everytime, no matter of what do you like or what do you think. ^^

Public, I don't give a shit what others think of me for liking a particular show, and if someone ever goes "eew you like MLP" I'll just turn around and calmly say "Well, there is probably a show/thing that you are into, that I am not, but do I pick you apart and bully you because of it? No. So please don't do it to me. Otherwise you are just being a discriminating dick."

I am a public Brony. I walk into Hot Topic singing various My Little Pony songs. (the theme, BBBFF, This day Aria, A true true friend, ETC.) I hold up a piece of merch and yell proudly "I am going to buy the buck outta you!"

It does not end there...oh no. At work I ask my co-workers who their favorite pony is. I quote the show while talking to them as well. They  find it hilarious and adorable(not sure why adorable).

I wear the shirts and the pins as well as deck my already manly truck out with bumper stickers and a Rainbow Dash Co-pilot. When people see me they know I am a Brony and they better like it.

^THIS! Not once have I had someone turn around and stop being my friend or disown me (family wise) because I like MLP, most of the people I have told are either my friends on SW:TOR (Star Wars: The Old Republic), Facebook or in my church/bible study, the guys in SW:TOR are very open, most of my friends on Facebook are also Bronies, and most people in my church/bible study don't really know what a Brony is, so I have to explain it to them, which I don't mind, and even so, they are very open-minded and accepting :) With family, my parents and older brother and sister just chalk it up with my weirdness coming from my family (my whole family is weird (but the good kind of weird) and the fact that I have A.S...I told my sister and she was cool with it, apparently when I was younger, I used to play with her G1 - 2 toys... so yeah

To give my two cents, I'm a public brony. I'll buy MLP DVDs or walk into the pony section by myself and I don't care what people think. Is it worth noting I also do the same thing while looking at Power Rangers stuff?

I'm a little of both. I guess you could say I'm reactively open. I don't actively preach to people about my love for MLP (spamming about it and such), but I do wear and collect merch as a means of self expression. I'll only say something if someone asks, though.

I guess I'm a public brony.

I don't really like to draw attention to myself in real life, but if people notice me drawing ponies at school, or putting pony music on; they tend to notice. No one really likes me anyway; and I'm the only brony in my school.

Although I'm not perfectly prideful about it, I'm a public Brony. My parents and some of my friends (Friends? What friends, the only in rl friend you have lives in Oregon.) know about it. I don't mind wearing shirts showing my Brony-dom, and what-not.

Other than that, I'm kind of in the closet. I listen to Pony-Music while walking around outside though, so does that count?

Semi-open, I suppose. My friends know and my family knows, but I don't necessarily tell everyone that crosses my path, like some people tend to do.

I don't really care if people know I'm into MLP, I don't see any reason for me not to like it or be ashamed of the fact that I do. Most people that know I love the show think it's funny, but don't say anything to me about it. On the other hand I'm not constantly talking about it, or letting everyone I know in on the joys of ponies. If you ask, I'm not gunna lie, but if you don't, you'll probably never know.

I am fairly open, I don;t really go right and introduce to everyone "HAI!, I Liek Poniz!"

I more or less bring it up to friends or if the subject of good TV shows comes up. That or when I am listing things I will gladly watch more than *Insert crappy but popular movie here*.

If they ask me, I might tell them. But really, I don't go around on school computers and watch episodes in my free time (although some of my now-good-friends do.) It's a secret, but it's an easy one to figure out.

I'm the same; I don't advertise that I am a brony, but if someone asked I wouldn't deny it, not anymore at least...

Most of my (few) friends know but they don't really talk about it, and I'll like pony-related stuff on facebook but the only time people bring it up is to complain about all the ponies in their newsfeeds, since they have no idea what it is. XD

Bronyism isn't a very well known concept where I am, mainly I suspect because MLP isn't aired in the UK (no one at my school seems to know what a brony is, aside from the people I've spoken to about it). Even the people who know I'm a brony don't really know everything that comes with it, such as the occasionally slightly rabid but always friendly fandom. Nor are any of them interested in giving the show a chance.

As for my parents, I've mentioned bronies to my mum before and while I haven't ever said it out loud I'm pretty sure she knows I am one (I've been on my laptop before and had tabs for the forums open while on another page, whether she notices or not I have no idea) but I don't think it matters to her much. As far as I know my dad has no idea what a brony is, and my older sister disapproves but doesn't really care.

I thought about buying a shirt before, but I didn't want to have to explain it to my parents (I would need to ask them if I was going to buy one online) and then have to explain it again to EVERYONE who saw it (like I said, hardly anyone here knows about ze ponies) because that would get pretty old...

Maybe I'll get a subtler shirt, one that another brony would recognise (as far as I know there is only ONE possible other brony in my entire city, an older woman I saw at a bus stop who I swear was wearing a derpy hoodie) but one that won't have tons of people stopping me to ask where it's from.

Nevermind, I just went and ordered this image on a shirt because, well, Pinkie and Portal! image.12599287.3534%2Ffc%2C140x140%2Croy

Heh, what could possibly go wrong?

...

I'm not saying anything.

Public by far... even so far as this

http://grimcw.deviantart.com/art/pony-ears-369511285?ga_submit_new=10%253A1367630470&ga_type=edit&ga_changes=1&ga_recent=1

Once i get this armor going, this should be fun :) .... though now i need to find a way to stencil and learn Dash's cutie mark better...

ANYWHO

I wear my pony shirts proudly, and tbh may have gotten a few stares, but so far no ones said anything if they have a problem.

My mother kind of questioned Vinyl Scratch's pic on my Iphones lock screen, but that aside, nothing... So i'm not gonna stop anytime soon, nor would i should anyone have a problem.

And before its asked, yeah i'd wear the ears in public gladly, i've worn my Neurowear Nekomimi as such (hilarious when people realize they move on their own), so don't think i won't these ears :)

I am definately a public brony. If I go out, I have to wear all my bracelets and my hat, which is an RD hat. It's kinda fun when you're at the mall and when you go up to buy something at the counter, the person behind it goes, "You're a brony? Sweet." And we'll start talking about it and other stuff.

i am a public brony and proud!!  I wear my belt, bracelets, and shirts to school.  Once in the mall i was in Hot Topic and me and the cashier struck up a conversation about bronies.  Its fun being open about it!

been playing too much bioshock. instantly read "are you a duke? or a dimwit?" but other than that, i am a public brony. i wear brony shirts, my family knows i'm a brony, and i talk about ponies a lot in school. that is if someone will listen, i'm not in the business of talking about the show to people who don't like it or aren't interested in it.
