Grasping hooves possibly magical?

The ponies don't have hands, yet are still able to grasp things with hoofs?

There are many examples of this in the show such as Pinkie Pie seen holding an apple as if she had fingers, which she does not thus making it impossible for her to grasp it, yet despite this she is still somehow able to pick up and hold the apple firmly in her hoof?

So do all ponies even Earth Ponies and Pegasus have magical hooves in which they use to grasp things?

All this would mean if true a MLP pony could use a keyboard and everything else us Humans use with ease despite not having any fingers.

I had though about that too, and that's an interesting theory.

It's simple, really.

The magic comes from these guys:

....and is applied to these guys.

Several theories abound to explain this phenomena.

One (which follows the show closer in spirit than the others) is that yes it is a subtle magic ability innate to all ponies. This makes sense since Unicorns are magic, the explanation for pegasi walking on clouds (and being able to fly with hilariously inadequate wing surface area) is magic, and earth-ponies have a semi-magical connection to the Earth which is why they grow stronger and better plants than the other pony races, so they all have magic to an extent. Applying a passive uniform magic power to all of them is not out of the question.

Others are mechanical, such as invisible fingers, or their hooves exude some kind of sub-surface sticky substance that objects adhere to when "picked up".

the ponies are so soft and huggable that objects WANT to be held by them, so they do all they can to be held by a pony.

Can't find the post on EQD again, but got the video that basically shows how pony hooves grasping should technically be possible :D

... given they have a soft area on their hooves eh. And we all know Ponies are entirely made of soft and cuddly stuff right?

Best theory so far.

Seriously though, they can curl their hooves to grasp some objects it seems, but maybe I only saw that in some fan art and not for real. But to me that would probably apply. Maybe they're soft and have flexible hooves so they can curl them to clench objects.

Pinkie Pie taught their hooves to defy the yhayayayayayayayayay... oops, I'm listening to Fluttershy's Yay Song...

I tried to say:Pinkie Pie taught their hooves to defy the laws of physics.

Thanks PixiGlow for my PINKTASTIC SIG!!! Cute Avatar made by Dragonshy!

Though you are shy and sweet, and I bake every treat, everyone has differences,

even best friends, but I can't see the differences in you and me, my friend (formerly Pinkie Pie Rocks)

Yup, this video explains it all. Kind of but not really like a suction cup. I wonder how cuddly them ponies are?

Evolution for the ponies was likely different from horses in the real world. I feel like their hooves are probably softer than we think, and so they are able to curl them and grip objects.

I know it's a rather old topic, but the most appropriate I could find to share with what I found.

Do you still wonder how ponies hold things with their hooves?
It turns out that the answer is in the previous generations of the series. It is not visible on the screens posted by Sepraxian, but I found better ones. I was curious how earlier MLP series looks like and I just found over hour long video on youtube. So I was lucky that I found these scenes during rewinding.

It seems that they have flexible and deformable hooves!

Unfortunately, (if this turn out to be canon in MLP:FiM) this this is ruining my theory about all ponies affected by magic - that all of them use some kind of telekinesis attached to their hooves that act more like magnetism. Its power could be dependent on physical strength of pony. Similar to the theory of pegasus using telekinesis-levitation magic to support their flying abilities.

If this is a defined television trope then somepony should mention it but I would call it the “Limited Limitations” trope. What it means is that characters that would normally have limitations for some reason would see these limitations either overlooked, forgotten, minimized or don’t exist at all for any number of plot reasons. An example is FiM’s pony hooves. They can’t grasp things but they do it anyway. What should be a limitation is overlooked entirely because it’s animated.

Well, my theory is that all ponies have some sort of magnetic type energy flowing through their hooves, and all of the objects have metal in them to make them easy to hold. I guess it's my headcanon.

I've always just assumed that either they're hooves are able to be moved as if they have some form of fingers under their hooves, or they hooves are just sticky like a frogs or something.

Or I could roll with the magic theory.

Actually doctor fizzle has a pretty sound theory. :P

That is true, but only unicorns have magic. So that wouldn't make sense. Man, now that's biting me in the back of my head. I just can't figure it out!
