on topic though, i find the personalities of most of the characters to be attractive, while rarity isn't my favorite i think she'd be the most compatible with me, twilight as close second. as for the asthetics, i'd say appealing moreso than attractive.

That makes perfect sense. I've said before in this very thread that it's not the ponies themselves that one is truly attracted to. They are templates for adult female behavioral patterns. When somepony "likes" Pinkie Pie, they are no doubt attracted to girls who are optimistic, love to laugh, and face every challenge in life with a song in her heart. For just one example.

The character development in this show is simply superb, you truly get the feeling that you are meeting every pony first hand. You get the sence that you not only "like" the way they act in certain situations, but you are along for the ride and they all have such distinct personality's it feels like you could have an actually meaningful conversation with them.

A great deal of that has to do with how richly developed the ponies are. They are real, three dimensional PEOPLE. I use the term people to refer to sapient life in general, so Spike's a person, the ponies are people, Iron Will is a person, though not really a people person, etc etc...

 

And I love that picture, primarily because I can't look at Rainbow Dash without thinking she's about to pounce on Twilight for some intimate fun, which amuses me. (Not non-consensual fun, mind. The Dash would never do that.)

You must not frequent many discussion forums then. It's rare to find decent ones, but there are some that are heavily policed enough for such discussions to happen peacefully.

 

Although I suppose the difference here is that everyone is tolerant and willing to discuss things peacefully without impetus or the constant threat of modly intervention, whereas everywhere else you need the forum police to keep things from exploding.

most forums i've been to (not a huge number, but several) solve the problem by banning the topics which prove most volatile. or i don't hang around long in the den of trolls.

 

three rules i've found common to the most respectable bars and forums i've been to, no talking about 1; religion 2; ex-spouses and 3; politics. this is the only place i've seen these things discussed freely without things turning south in a bad way.

 

and i completely agree that the characters are so well developed that they are people, it's the personality which is attractive.

Let's be honest here, when teen/adult males can push away the fact their watching cartoon pony's aside and watch the show for what it is, you are dealing with some of the most open minded people on the planet IMO. Basically what it comes down to is people are going to respect anything you have to say on this forum, no matter what it is. Such a nice community.

In various ways theyre all attractive. I personally judge a lot of my attraction on character, which is why Im jealous of the male ponies in equestria. Ponies are caring and interesting, unlike all of the annoying and shallow people at my school. So in that since theyre all attractive but Id have to go with Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy as the most. A contributing factor is probably that they are the two I most relate with, which is weird since theyre so different. But I guess I have a mixed personality.

I no doubt have a huge crush on Fluttershy, her personality is the most adorable thing!

In a close second, I would have to say Twilight because she reminds me a lot of myself. She knows she can do things most pony's can't (such as her magic), however she never feels the need to brag about it, and always willing to help any pony through good times, and bad.
